  1. That's disappointing, I thought I saw an article years ago about the Russians helping them build new avionics suites and redoing all the ancient wiring.
  2. $1200 now, they were $750 when I got mine in December. These prices don't make sense to me for mining. For the hell of it I installed nicehash and got it going, over the last few days it's been saying that I'm making $6-7 per day. If my electricity were free it would take 171 days at $7 per day to break even. Electricity isn't free of course and the thing is consuming 5.7Kwh/day or about $2 at my electric rate. So now I'm at 240 days before I hit break even. At least cooling is free since it's winter. As more people bring their own cards online though, my personal percentage of the worldwide hash rate and therefore my profit per day will decline, pushing out my break even horizon even further. Of course, the coins could rise in value, but if that's the gamble I'm taking I'm better off straight up purchasing the coins and holding them vs buying a vastly overpriced GPU. Since I already own the thing anyway I'll keep on running it, I like free money. I could sell it and make a quick $450 but then I wouldn't be able to play games.
  3. Not to derail but this site is amazing, you could go down a deep rabbit hole reading stuff there.
  4. Apologies if this was answered earlier in the 36-page thread, but when I quit out of it it doesn't retain the paths of the installed DCS versions the next time I open it. I didn't see a save button anywhere though.
  5. They've been doing homegrown upgrades too, I wonder if they have modernized the cockpits. I haven't found anything.
  6. When it's employed at max range doesn't it take a high loft flight and then come crashing down on your head?
  7. Greatest trick the Navy ever pulled... Navy: We need a new plane Gov: No Navy: Can we upgrade our old plane? Gov: Ok Navy: <twists mustache deviously>
  8. Yeah, I was talking about the future upgrade version. The soon to be released 8K alternates drawing the two displays rather than drawing them both at the same time?
  9. No matter how secret they keep the details, an engineer can make some pretty good educated guesses based on public knowledge. The physical dimensions including the size of the fins are known or can be inferred from photos, so a full aerodynamic model of possible performance at any speed can be created. How much energy the solid rocket contains can be figured out as well. I'm sure there are secret fuel formulations but how much better than public domain formulations can they really be?
  10. Very nice. How do you keep from rolling away from the desk when using your rudder pedals?
  11. Running two full 4k displays at 90hz might end up requiring two display cables.
  12. Fake FLIR footage is probably easier to make than photorealistic stuff...
  13. They attached a homemade booster stage to an AAM? Clever.
  14. $0.06 per watt hour would be pretty expensive. $0.06 per kilowatt hour (I assume what you meant) is super cheap by US standards. Where are you?
  15. It doesn't need to be super clear all the way to the edges, because you can't slew your eyeball all the way the way to the edges. You run out of room to slew at the limits of your binocular vision, everything past there you can't put your fovea onto so it's peripheral vision and the fidelity is much lower. I wonder if it's possible to take that into account to save GPU resources even without eye tracking and real foveated rendering.
  16. Not completely. Since you are mining alt coins on your GPU, the rate depends on the alt to BTC ratio and the BTC to local currency ratio. When BTC takes a hit alt to BTC ratios often improve.
  17. I'm getting back into flight simming after a long period away. I recently bought an Oculus to use for iRacing but it re-ignited the flight sim bug and here I am. I tried searching for this but didn't get anywhere... Is there a way to adjust the thickness/weight of the fonts and lines displayed on the cockpit displays? The F-15C HUD is very readable IMO, but the RWR, Radar and the MFD are a blurry mess. They are readable on my monitor in the VR repeater window but it's obvious that they are drawn with several pixels of thickness. I feel like they would be much more readable in the oculus if the line thickness was only one pixel.
  18. Even if it's lighter, the shape of it puts its mass further away from the center of your head, increasing moment of inertia. Still way lighter than a Gentex helmet though, and not subject to 9 Gs. :)
  19. Is that off-center Mig-15 gunsight meant to be looked through with only one eye? I'm cross eye dominant (left eye, right handed) and I shoot rifles with holographic sites right handed and right-eyed with no problem, it's something you can adapt around.
  20. Most M.2 slot-equipped motherboards disable certain SATA ports when the M.2 slots are used.

    MINING

Unless I'm mistaken he's talking about the i/o rate generated by running a full wallet file, which contains a complete copy of the blockchain of that currency.

WTF, that's 10x the speed of my internet connection. How is this possible?
  23. Is this another way of saying supersampling? It's already there as an option for VR users. You can force it in a video card driver as well.
  24. This is worth a read, the Yo-Yo maneuvers are an example of maneuvering out of plane vs your opponent: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_fighter_maneuvers
  25. Dang I lucked out with my new build, ordered everything between Christmas and New Years when there was still good supply.
