investigating RTB and AI Wingmen

Hi Flappie, yes, it still happens when you use the radio you mentioned above. The trak file is attached. RTB Problem2.trk -
investigating RTB and AI Wingmen
MVS-Viper replied to MVS-Viper's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Hi Flappie and PMcG, @ PMcG Yes. it happens on easy comms. @ Flappie: I will try see the UHF picklist even comes up with the easy radio set-up. BTW, I'm traveling until 7/19, so my replies will be delayed until then. -
Not a permanent solution because I also think the MFD screen's are too small and difficult to read on the F-16. I hope this is addressed in a future patch. But, if you own a tablet, try this: The app that ihopi developed works well, and helps with the MFD problem in the Viper.

investigating RTB and AI Wingmen

Wingmen seem to respond (to the RTB calls) better on the Caucasus map, but they don't always RTB. -
investigating RTB and AI Wingmen
MVS-Viper replied to MVS-Viper's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Thanks Flappie. Yeah, sorry that mission was kind of long, but it took the wingman a long time to get airborne. They are really dumb. Lol, then I kept trying to send him home. Thanks for checking on the Hornet, that was fixed - awesome. Right now (on a dynamic campaign), you are better off telling the F-16 AI wing man to go home and save the plane. Please see if you can fix the Viper's wingmen. The AI is really dumb. My wingie once crashed into me - while I was waiting to take off on the active. I heard "two rolling" and then bang. Thanks again. -

investigating RTB and AI Wingmen
MVS-Viper replied to MVS-Viper's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Hi Flappie, I'm talking about F-16's but it happens with the F-18's as well. The Persian Gulf map. In formation, we had just taken off. Enemy SAM's were far away. Airfields were in good shape. I had just taken off. I'll do a trak for you, but I've had this happen many times in the past with the F-16's and F-18's. -
The AI wingmen do not return to base when given the RTB command. Not a big deal right now, but if you are using the dynamic campaign - it does matter. AI wingmen tend to get shot down or bail out before returning to base. Each time they do that, the blue side of the campaign loses a jet unnecessarily. This should be fixed before DCS rolls out their dynamic campaign engine.

Great addition to DCS. Thanks for the app ihopi. Reading and using the MFD's on the i-Pad is instead of trying to make them out on the computer screen is a game changer .

"HOLD SHORT" (of the active runway) is another good ATC command to have. This alerts you of possible incoming traffic on the runway you are going to cross or take off from.
-
Add to the ATC Pick List: "DECLARING AN EMERGENCY" Tower then grants you priority landing and puts all other A/C behind you in the landing que.

[CAN NOT REPRODUCE]View Freeze and Low FPS
MVS-Viper replied to MVS-Viper's topic in Bugs and Problems
I found the culprit. "SSLR". I turned it off, and no more problems with lock-ups. Also much better FPS. That option did not exist in stable version 2.5.5.41371.1. -
[CAN NOT REPRODUCE]View Freeze and Low FPS
MVS-Viper replied to MVS-Viper's topic in Bugs and Problems
Thanks for looking into this. I tried the DCS Repair and the DCS Crashing advice. The problem still exists. Today's log is attached. dcs.log -
While in the pit, looking down at control panels will freeze the view in the latest updates. It does not happen in the stable version (2.5.5.41371.1). Nevada map in Free Flight Mission. Will post two track files, on in stable version (2.5.5.41371.1), and the other is the latest beta. The FPS in the stable bersion is 10-15 FPS' better than the beta. Same video settings in both versions of the game. Beta Version.zip Stable Version.zip

F-16 Nose Wheel Steering Issues
MVS-Viper replied to mcmike's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Not a complete solution, but using Overkill's rudder axis set-up, does help with NWS in the F-16. I set my deadzone to 4, and curvature to 25. Here is a link to Overkill's video: -
Been waiting a while for this one to be published. Thanks for all of the hard work Chuck. Outstanding as always.

Here are the mission files for anyone to try. I modified the one for the F-16 following CoBlue's excellent instructions, and included the original mission file. I tweaked the wind a bit lower on the ground (on the F-16 file) to try to keep the jet from flipping over after landing. Still a heck of a challenge for those who want to practice difficult landings. Thanks for the tip CoBlue

If you enjoy the F-16 (and have messed around with Falcon BMS or Falcon 4), buy it during the next sale. Yes, it is not complete, but (IMO) it is very enjoyable in its present level of development. DCS/ED continues to roll out updates and improvements on a regular basis - which is great. As far as the FM goes - it seems pretty good to me (but I'm not an F-16 driver in RL).

There is an awesome mission on the DCS F-15 beta module out this weekend. It is landing in Dubai - very challenging (Rain, Strong Crosswind, Lightning). Can we get that mission for the F-16? Thanks.
-
Well said. I could not agree with you more . Thank you to all of the staff at ED/DCS! Keep it going.

The confusion might be that people are looking for the guide in the stable build. You need too look for it right where Gas said it was - in the openbeta folder. The guide is right there. If you do not have the openbeta download, you will not see the updated guide .

Great news, thanks.

Thanks Deadpool . Yeah, I really like the flexibility and options in Tacview.
