Unless I'm mistaken, the missions are now all included in the module, but some don't work. (For example, the AAR and I think startup and carrier landing – I've not tried them all). That said, the depth and quality of them is fantastic – Baltic Dragon did a great job at the time, it's just that the module/DCS has moved on since and broken a few things. I'm still working through some of them as, even with bugs, you can learn stuff.

DCS Newsletter discussion 6th January 2023 - 2023 and beyond | DCS core
Solemn-laugh replied to BIGNEWY's topic in DCS 2.9
Thank you to ED for the detailed update. Great to hear what's going on. Excited to see what this will mean for VR down the road. -
already in development DLSS is now free
Solemn-laugh replied to Benchboy's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Me too. I occasionally use that other civilian sim (always VR) and found DLSS in VR to be a waste of time for me (factory overclocked 3900 and 5900X) mainly because the text on dials becomes so blurry/smeary. So not assuming it will add much (if anything to VR UNLESS Eagle Dynamics can make a better job of implementing it (no idea if this issue is limited to that other sim, or if DLSS will do this in VR generally). -
TrackIR Killer: Facial AI Tracking Using WebCam
Solemn-laugh replied to Ghiath's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
If you have an iPhone you can use that to track your face for DCS and other games. There are several apps that do this, but I've tried this one. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/head-tracker/id1527710071 It's free to try, and if you like it, the full version is (I think) $1.99. I use VR now, but this is useful for some games that don't support VR. Not sure if there are apps like this for android phones too? -
+1 to Happy New Year to everyone at Eagle Dynamics and here on the forum. Hope you and your families are safe, happy, healthy and prosperous throughout 2023.

Thanks for that @NineLine -
Developer updates MSFS style?
Solemn-laugh replied to Solemn-laugh's topic in Weather System Bugs & Problems
First, thank you @NineLine if you had anything to do with the recent multithreading news item. For me, this is the kind of thing I wanted, just reassurance that things are moving forward, and some info about the process because I'm not a dev/coder (although I do work with them but not in games) so find it interesting and it helps me understand timeframes etc. Second @SkateZilla thanks for your great utility. -
Developer updates MSFS style?
Solemn-laugh replied to Solemn-laugh's topic in Weather System Bugs & Problems
Fair points made above. It's easy to point to the negatives (I do so myself) but to add to what @St4rgunsaid the new iteration of the clouds is stunning (where they're not broken/shimmering). I prefer them to the clouds in MSFS (which were impressive when they arrived). Here's hoping ED have news they can't wait to share soon. -
Terrible clouds in VR since 2.8
Solemn-laugh replied to Ephedrin's topic in Weather System Bugs & Problems
Clouds in 2.8 can look great from some angles and terrible from others – with strong jagged diagonal lines, like coarse aliasing. I find, consistently, they issues are most severe when you are level with the clouds (approx same altitude). FYI settings: Clouds: ULTRA (appearance worse on other settings) MSAA: 4x (appearance (more 'jaggies') worse on lower settings) -
A suggestion for @NineLine (given how often you have to field comments about the age/state of the code in DCS (particularly for us VR diehards)). How about persuading ED to give us a look over their shoulder wrt the performance-enhancing work (and more) that's going on in the background? A video / series of videos perhaps, with insight into where ED are with, say, the multithreading beta? Why we're looking at multi-threading first, before python, etc. I'm sure a lot of us would find this fascinating and reassuring – particularly if presented by (or from the POV of) the developers. I love DCS with a passion (that word again ) but am nervous that my 22 fps with my high-end PC (well, overclocked 3090) won't improve (and that's with shadows off) and that VR is falling a bit by the wayside (see clouds for details). I'm saying this as a big DCS fan. I have enormous respect for all that DCS have achieved and I understand the challenges are not trivial. But a feeling of being closer to it all will (imho) go a long way to placating the user base – just as it does with MSFS. That said, thanks for all you're doing on the forum and elsewhere.

2.8 has made VR performance significantly worse for me. BUT there are a few things that really help (until ED get DCS optimised (e.g. multithreading etc). (3090 and Reverb G2). If you use WMR: 1) Use open composite 2) Use open composite () 3) Run missions from a dedicated server (even on the same PC that you're running DCS normally on). You'll need a fast (or two fast) SSDs but it is a workaround to use more of your CPU cores You may be doing this already, but for me this is the only thing that gets me (almost) good performance. (It was good performance in 2.7)
-
Same. Have to run dedicated server as performance choppy without (multitasking please ED). So would also love to be able to fast forward through long flights.

Yes, thanks @actually_fred – you helped me with this in another channel.

Hi, I've not been able to get this to work – would really appreciate some help (I'm a non-coder). I installed latest DL msix. At first on running, no sign of the app running (in task manager). Removed and installed a few times and now it appears in task manager but not in VR. I have two DCS openbeta installs. I assume I will need to direct Open Kneeboard to these folders (or at least one of them to begin with). I've read all the help info but can't find any of the settings they describe – for example 'GameSettings'? How can I tell Open Kneeboard DCS locations, configure bindings etc if I can't access the app? I cannot see any Open Kneeboard hooks in scripts folder (seen this mentioned) presumably because Open kneeboard was unable to install stuff properly because it doesn't have the DCS folders? I have discovered the 'Windows Apps' folder and given myself access to that, but it looks mostly code I can't change? Would really appreciate some help thank you!

Thank you so much for your hard work on this mod. Without your 'hide rotor' mod the AH-64 rotors are a wobbly janky motion reproduction mess in VR for me! Fingers crossed you can get it to play nice with 2.8. It's only when something stops working that you realise how much you miss it! Not to put pressure on you – sure you have a life outside of modding! Thanks.

Vaicom no longer recognizes F-14 after DCS 2.8 update
Solemn-laugh replied to Jayhawk1971's topic in VAICOM
Damn. Me too. Comms menu won’t display even when Viacom off. Will watch this thread for updates -
Yes @imackenI saw your comment before I bought the module. Does anyone here know which training missions are still valid? Or could RAZBAM at least test their own training and post here which ones are still valid? Would be a huge help. Ideally they should remove any that no longer work – that would be a good start.
-
@baltic_dragon Just bought the AV-8B module (mainly to go with the SA map). Started going through the training missions (a great help format for VR) - then discovered that most no longer work or are relevant. I know you said you were updating them (thank you), but in the meantime, maybe ED should delete the training missions from the module as it's more frustrating to waste time following wrong info than be given no info IMO?

Hey @lefuneste01, I love your mod THANK YOU! Semi-related question for you (or anyone else who might have an answer). I notice you use a loader so your mod works with open composite. There's another 3Dmigoto-based mod I'd like to use (with open composite) for a different VR app (https://edhm-ui.herokuapp.com). Is it easy to configure a loader to make that work with open composite? Something a non-coder like me could cut and paste? As you can see, I've no idea how these things work – just grateful there are people who do. Thanks

@MAXsenna repaired DCS and VA and VAICOM Pro – appears to have done the trick! Thanks.
-
Thanks for your help @MAXsenna. I will try this. Fingers crossed. I have the kneeboard pages bound to a rotary dial, so just turn the dial to flip between them. Works really well. I think Viacom include info in manual for how to set this up.

Bug - anyone know what's causing this/how to fix? Thanks: DCS comms menu text keeps appearing every few seconds (in VR) when Voicattack is running and no keys pressed. If I close voiceattack issue goes away. If I launch voiceattack to use Vaicom pro, the comms menu keeps showing every few seconds. Close it, pops up again seconds later. So distracting in VR that I've stopped using Vaicom Pro. Any help appreciated. Thanks
