What did I think of Kiowa? It needs to improve in some areas!
Slippa replied to ThorBrasil's topic in DCS: OH-58 Kiowa
D'ya reckon? I've just been going through the cold start video again. Still haven't fired anything, I'm just going by the demo from YT and I think the gun sound stops too abruptly. It just cuts out. No reverb, I dunno? Just doesn't sound right to me. Same with engine sounds as mentioned already. Great to read Polychop have a sound man on the case and I look forward to updates. I'm gonna give em the benefit of the doubt on textures. I don't know how big a job polishing it up is but I'd imagine it could be done? Maybe in time, like the Gazelle? I don't think it's that bad but I can see the point. I do like the shape of these Kiowas and it's great to fly. Easy, in a good way. I barely know how to use any systems as well, there aren't any in props where I've spent most of my flying time. More to learn but I like it.- 593 replies

Good to hear the training missions are good, I didn’t check anything missions wise. I set bindings, went through the YouTube vids for cold starting and was away . Yet to use any weapons, haven’t been able to get time in it, maybe later on.- 593 replies

Universal settings in aircraft options request
Slippa replied to Hammer1-1's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Also, why is it that so many modules arrive with rudder pedals and other things set up to control pitch and yaw? Surely nobody flies with their toe-brakes? Wouldn’t hurt to line up a few sensible bits, collective etc as you say. -

I love the shape of it. Looking at it in the sim it looks alright. If I zoom right in and start inspecting it I s’pose it isn’t great but using it was fine. It is easy to fly and made me look a shed-load better than I do in some other choppers. I enjoyed the vid too of the experienced pilot giving us the rundown and though I wouldn’t follow him off a bridge, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt about the FM. Wonder if they’re that easy IRL though? Barely had a lot of time in it but I want some more. The sounds do need a bit of sorting though for me. I’m not the first to mention it obviously so hope for an update or whatever.- 593 replies

no bug Modules installing in unexpected folders
Slippa replied to Slippa's topic in Installation Problems
Ah, right. Cheers for the reassurance Silver. P.S. That Frontier folder may as well not be there these days, I never get to see any spaceships other than DCS ones . -

Haven’t had a chance to fly it yet, I got as far as a few bindings and had to get busy. Cheers for posting the videos. Gutting to see though, it’s not ready. The sounds are off. Gun sounds cut abruptly and sound like a lazy sample to me so work to be done on the sounds and where’s the damage modelling? Hope it’s better to use than it seems but it doesn’t look ready. Agree, this should still be EA. Maybe I was a bit too eager to try it.- 593 replies

Nice. Monopod sounds wise too. try 1/320 and 125 and bugger the birds, get yourself up the field they've got flyables up there . Check camera settings too as that's knackered me a few times. Good luck with the processing, I've still got more than half to go through.

Oh nice one . Any British skins for it? I only have the ambulance ones for the TAF. I don't think we used them extensively but it doesn't stop me wanting a commandeered one . Cheers for these.

Ooh, you bought a Beast eh? Nice, is it the 'Sport'? A fella I know a bit has one of those, perfectly fine and his isn't the Sport. He's an amazing sniper with his camera too. I'm gonna need a trolley next as I struggle enough with what I carry let alone one of those. You should get some great shots with that lens and wrists to put Popeye to shame . Well suited for Duxford too as a lot of displaying there is a bit further out at times. I change shutter speeds and go from AV to TV depending on what I'm trying to do. Most of what I take gets dumped really. I get shakes as well which doesn't exactly help matters. My eyes aren't as good as they were but I can 'still see that pin down there' . Panning nowadays isn't what it was from me. Bloody shocking seeing the state of some of the weekends efforts. Some are great so it evens out a bit. I was a bit eager to post some here and looking at them properly (and with the right pair of goggles on) I saw some shocking out of focus stuff. Just deleted the dodgy one of the Pony but I've been going through a few earlier and sorted some of the wheat from the chaff. There was a lot of chaff. I should have something better here really. This picture posting is a bit odd though on the forum. Had to delete old pics from posts to replace with these. An old fella in his 80s told me to try 320ss as I was having trouble getting what I was after. I wasn't focusing properly and still have loads either under or over-exposed. For a banker then, I'd start at 320 and have a look. 125, 100, 80? I'll go down to about 60 at times but it depends what the prop's doing as well as your aperture and ISO. If it's fighters on a fast pass you'd want a different ss than if they were on taxi speeds to get a nice prop-blur. Play about with it and remember to enjoy the show too. Years ago I'd film the lot and not get to have a natter and meet other nutters. I do a bit of both now . ETA: What body are you using? Obviously a crop-body will give you extra length .

I just installed the Kiowa and was about to update the Loach when I noticed Modules have installed outside my saved games folder. Usually, I find the rest of my aircraft inside the saved games folder but looking just now I see the F-4, Kiowa and the Loach in an unexpected place. Maybe the installation path has changed or something but I don't remember changing anything? I'm bound to be at fault though. I don't know what I've done differently but obviously want everything where it should be. Anyone realise my mistake or know what's happened here and what I should do, answers on a postcard please. Cheers for looking.

If it makes you feel any better Devil I made the same mistake for a bit . Kept schtum though, no videos posted on the internet .

I wonder about that happening every time I buy a module here. Luckily it went straight through today but I might buy it again tomorrow so I can have two with different liveries. Yes I’m being silly. Not about the ‘double payment gamble’ though. Came to see what else I might bind to the warthog. As usual, the axis bindings need cleaning up. Trying to bind my anti collision lights and position lights and I can’t seem to make them behave themselves. There’s about four settings for them. Yet to hear the engine but it’s all looking pretty good so far. Cheers for some binding pointers Hiob. I noticed those sliders too, I left the FFB slider up at 100 just in case it magically works on the warthog. Maybe not. Right, cold start videos for me .

How do I force-rush the updater? Tried chanting and gurning at it, even wiggling my toes impatiently isn’t making it any faster. 32.6mb/s come on

Ooh, lemme at it

Should being the operative word . I haven’t had chance to try it yet. Got as far as downloading it but had to get on with the boring stuff of life. Trimmer sounds interesting. Not sure if I’ll feel like I’m cheating it a bit as the real thing doesn’t have one. Good idea as an optional aid though. Should be a giggle later, I love this little thing.

Are you after a Pilot swarty? Not that I'm volunteering. About to try the update .

Definitely. Much appreciated. One of DCS’s talented tinkerers

https://shop.iwm.org.uk/p/29001/Roundel-Bamboo-Socks-One-Size-(Battle-of-Britain) I tried to buy a pair of these with a bag from their tent. Card only I was told. I’m not allowed to cash legal tender apparently so I walked away feeling like a long-gone Dougy Bader must have, trying to get equipment. I mean, we’re both ‘complaining from Duxford’ so practically in the same situation . I wandered along a few pitches to the Blenheim tent and asked if they’d accept cash. Of course he readily accepted so I dropped the sock money into his tin to ‘help keep the Blenheim flying’, told him the story and felt much better about the predicament. I got collared on my way out though and succumbed (paying cash) in the shop to a couple of pairs of very eye-catching ‘flying socks’. Some for the Mossie and in readiness, with this in mind, a pair for the Lanc . Mrs Slippa mercilessly mocked me when I showed her so I do hope the project’s going well, I’ve invested heavily in simulation footwear over here .
