  1. Well look at all this for info. Talk about comprehensive. I wish I’d have had this amount of advice when I was getting set up. A lot of the technical bits have me scratching my head, the bits that don’t just go straight over it anyway. Good to read though and despite myself I might’ve learnt a few things. Glad to bring a few chuckles here and there, cheers . Looks like a good setup, I wouldn’t mind it myself. I’m thinking of moving the lot of it into another room and getting it all sorted out but I’ll want a wad of cash for it all too. God knows what sort of money goes on building these sim-pits but it won’t be a little. Not that I’m starting all that but I could do with changing it up a bit and I’m getting ‘itches for switches’, throttles, a collective maybe? It never ends does it? Good luck with it all Ghost, you’ll suss it all out soon enough.
  2. Silver seems to be saying he doesn’t post his data on Lancs. Followed by him then posting his data. I don’t think Silver will be getting a call from S.O.E. or dropped in to work with the resistance but he could be useful as a double-bluff double agent to confuse the enemy? - Just kiddin Silver . Nice shots Scoobs . I did think maybe a few of us could copy four or five pics from early in the thread and post them but it’s not really the answer to the pic limit problem. Maybe try a free image hosting site then you could link your shots here? Unless BigNewy or NineLine can sort something out? Especially for Modders or something? You wanna be able to show how it’s going and we all wanna see it. Nothing like a few ‘nipple glimpse’ shots of the Lancs progress to warm the cockles. Looks like you’ve got us a good few skins done already. Place must reek of digital paint but it’s better than counting all those rivets again eh? Cheers for the pics. Keep on .
  3. Would you? You mean one 2TB surely? Not trying to teach my granny how to suck eggs or nuffin . I just read this thread and had a lightbulb moment. I went and had a look to check and surprised myself. I have 2 unopened boxes here, both with 2TB external SSDs in them. About six months ago I was in a bit of a panic about how fat DCS was getting. I bought a couple of T7s to finally sort it all out properly. I had my C drive as well as two external drives in the red and not much of it very well organised. i put the new drives away and planned to ‘sort it all out’ but given the choice of flying or going through all the files I always went flying. When I did get around to sorting it I went a different way around it. I use a Mac. I’ll have to give in and buy a dedicated PC for simming soon but up to now I’m using Bootcamp to run Windows 10 and DCS. When I first set it up I partitioned less than half the available drive space for Bootcamp. When DCS got a bit too chubby I went and got more externals. Having a few days flying instead of moving it all gave me the time to think about it and decide to chop up the whole drive differently. Now the poor Mac side of the drive is probably only 25% of it. DCS is fat and proudly stuffing its face full of helicopters and has a big fat Hook to swallow soon. All the drives are happy, the Mac side of it’s a bit sulky but thanks to me reading this thread I’ve just gained 4TB that I’d forgotten about. Ghostmaker I’ll be needing a PC myself at some point and I’m in the UK too so I’ll try to remember this thread and see how it goes. I looked at Overclockers as well as this lot a while back. Be interesting to see what it all costs ya in the end and how it turns out. Don’t fret about the Maps and all, everything looks good and there’s plenty of help here.
  4. I pre-ordered this the other day. I still had some miles spare and who wouldn’t want the Hook? Should be interesting to see what we get and how it develops. There’s nothing like the sound of em. Hope we’re all pleasantly surprised. At this point I’m banking on at least getting two engines, a couple of sets of blades and some nav lights. We’ll see.
  5. What are you on about? Good find Skewgear. Navigational bits like this start to buckle my mind so I won’t delve in too deeply. No pressure introduction, “Today is not a job, we are at war”
  6. It only gets bigger too . All those goodies have to go somewhere. I gave up long ago worrying about the size of it all, it’s bleedin enormous. It eats drives for breakfast compared to most things. … and cheers for being one of those that helped me out Max, mind boggling some of it and still is, good to have the advice here .
  7. How very dare you . Agree, ATC would be great though. That and some animated ground crew would bring the fields to life.
  8. I flew it last night for a bit just to see if it worked. The Harrier and the Eagle both failed authentication and I had to exclude them from my AV. The radar’s gone altogether for me. I flew it around but ended up going in like a dart. It crashed DCS to desktop but I did hit it hard . it’s gutting, they did a great job of it up to a point.
  9. Welcome to DCS . Technically, you can install and uninstall any maps or modules that you own as and when you want to. You could have one map and fly one aircraft on it then swap them both out for something else but you’d more than likely want your maps and modules on their own drive for convenience? Instant access to all your options is probably how you’d want things without a wait? I do, so I have everything DCS on a dedicated drive. There are different ways to arrange things. What I will tell you is that when I started getting into DCS, clueless as to how it all functioned and with a certificate in incompetent computing I started asking around for advice here. Pretty much the same people that have chipped in on this thread offered advice and couldn’t have been more helpful. They’ll see you alright and will likely still help out if and when things go wrong so you should be ok. It’s highly addictive. You’ll lose hours like they’re minutes and you’ll see red target spots when you close your eyes to go to sleep. That’s if you can get to sleep without dreaming of switches and levers you could buy for your setup indoors. You’ll become a proficient peripheral purchaser too before you know it and will endure hours and hours of monotonous reviews of shiny new throttles and sticks on YouTube. In time, you will yearn for these, for these are the switchy and bright lighty things of our dreams. You will worship at the alter of the prop and jet engine in places like the church of Heatblur or the temple of latter day Polychops. You could be teased by your peers, sacrilegious types may even describe DCS as a game (the banished ones) but you will push on with your ‘training’ as dedication is key and is what will make you a better ‘pilot’ . Enjoy .
  10. Funny seeing pics of the pilots like this. I checked their masks on and off earlier and cracked up at the expression on the co-pilots face. Looks like he needs a bit of time off, poor sausage. I don’t have them on a lot when in the cockpit as in most of the modules, the pilot models all look naff compared to the quality of most interiors. The Kiowa Co-Pilot really does need to stop practicing telekinesis though. I’d prefer the more hands-on approach. None of it’s taking anything away from it though, a few bits to improve but I like it .

Some nice shots Freehand. Enjoy your break Qcumber .
  12. I don’t think it needs much more than a paint job? Textures, I s’pose? The audio’s being taken care of and I’m happy as Larry with everything else. Flown it every day since it was released I think? I’m sure someone with more technical knowledge could find faults but to my eyes it’s pretty good.
  13. So do I, and a lot more. cheers.
  14. Good to see these, I do love this bird. Been feeling guilty flying the Kiowa so have to have little trips in this just to keep my hand in . Yep, would be good.
  15. Good on ya cfrag, keep at it . Cool response to a thoughtful write-up from Steve. Healthy positive energies, just what we need. I’d have a look but you’d need a comedy section/disaster zone and nobody wants a record of my dodgy attempts yet .
  16. Are you on about moving it, as in, adjusting it, or removing it by moving it out of sight somehow? I could only move it up or down a bit but can’t remove it altogether.
  17. So long as it's constructive, I agree, criticism and scrutiny helps any sensible developer. We're after-sales testers really with invaluable feedback, as long as they wanna take it in and use it constructively. Everyone helps to make improvements, hopefully. I've been flying it a fair bit and the more I do, the more I like it. Did I mention I like the look of it? I haven't used it in anger, lots to learn and get familiar with yet. I was trying to see what it was about the switches last night. They do look a bit shiny-ish as a few others have noticed, there's something about them? The damage model could be better I s'pose but when I've blown it up by zipping about like a lunatic I haven't really hung about to inspect the damage. That video posted above makes it look bad. Better sounds on their way hopefully so should be good. I don't think anyone should be gutted with what they have if they buy it. Maybe it coulda been a bit cheaper but what couldn't these days? I've barely used anything in anger, I'm more into the flight than the fight but I'll have a go when I can use it properly. I've been in all kinds of fights in props but they're a very different beast. I'm happy with it. Such an easy thing to jump straight into and fly it with a decent enough Co-Pilot/AI, (though could do with a little drift or wobble for realism but I'm nit-picking). It shouldn't put anyone off buying it at all. I'm hoping the skinners get busy, I'll go have a look .
  18. I was gonna answer by saying carefully and with a grin on your face but reading through I wanna have a go too . Cheers for the explanation Sirrah. I’ll look in again, see how to have them hold while we cold start and get a coffee and comfy/prepared for action.
  19. I have trouble with a few as well. There are, sometimes in the same module, different descriptions of things or things being given different names. A lot of modules have crazy bindings already set too like toe-brakes set for pitch and yaw. They do catch me out at times and when I was first learning my way around, well, I can laugh about it now but it wasn’t funny . Think there’s another thread on the same point somewhere?
  20. I understand. Cheers.
  21. What about the former? Can you say whether or not it looks like an intentional ‘security’ time-out type thing? If so, the rights to which would be part of the copyright?
  22. Let’s hope not.
  23. Yeah, I need step by step stuff too and can still mess it up . I saw this earlier and thought about it. Been drumming bindings into my head for days but this could be helpful. You realise this’ll give the Kiowa twice the amount of AI than the Mossie has and if certain people get wind of your magical powers they’ll wear your ears out asking for one? Clever little thing and quick with it too, nice one .
  24. I like the sound of it. It flies and operates great as you say but it could do with a touch up graphically. Externally too probably but you’ve enough to be getting on with . Reminds me, I keep meaning to look for some big ol speakers to hang out of it. Ride of the Valkeries style. Maybe a PBR to sling underneath with a couple of surfboards? Ok, I’m getting a bit carried away. Good luck with it . ED, sign him up. ED, ED sign him up
