  1. http://www.gogamer.com will let you use PayPal. http://www.gogamer.com/cgi-bin/GoGamer.storefront/SESSIONID/Product/View/001LOCF http://www.simw.com/ also accepts PayPal You can also check the other sites that carry Flaming Cliffs - the list is here: http://lockon.ru/index.php?end_pos=9&lang=en&scr=list&page=8#536
  2. Install with ModMan5 (Mod Manager ver 5) You can get the program here: http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=80&lid=332&ttitle=MOD_MANAGER_LOMAN_5#dldetails There is a link that explains how to install ModMan and another link that explains how to use the ModMan utility.
  3. Google Earth ver 4.0 beta is out now. New user interface along with upgraded high resolution coverage. Definately one of my favorite programs. It's a good thing this isn't real time imagery - a lot of us would never get any work done! :smilewink:
  4. You're right about the Russian mirror not working. Link from the main web site: http://mirror3.lockon.ru/download2.php?lang=en&item=202bab497af416b99c25d44bebc59240&productID=804e8ff5d0100bd0ff4b6513a5a8202c Gives this error message: Fatal error: Call to undefined function: query() in /www/mirror.lockon/classes/WorkWithDB.php on line 29 Thats some type of programming error on the php main web site.
  5. I just did a test download to check the US mirror. You can see from the above screenshot it's performing nicely. It never dropped below 380 KB/sec Are you using any type of "download accelerator" ??
  6. Or maybe not! I just added up the mail-in-rebates on that list above and it's $109 at the moment. $90 for WinXP/Home SP2. Prices and rebates may change at any time though.
  7. There are several websites that put together recommended PC component lists. One of those sites is AnandTech.com. Here is a link the webpage where they summerize the AMD and INTEL system suggestions: http://anandtech.com/guides/showdoc.aspx?i=2753&p=10 If you go back earlier into the guide the various components are discussed in more detail. Since that build is based on a $1500 target price for a mid-range system its a bit more than you want to spend. You can still use those lists for a working idea of what will get you close. Here is a good link for other resources: http://www.newegg.com/CustomerService/KnowledgeBase.asp Newegg.com has great prices and is a complete PC shopping site. They allow you to build "Wish Lists" which you can then share publicly and ask people to review and comment on your choices. When you're ready to buy just dump the updated wish list into the shopping cart. Here is a $1,257 (about $1200 with rebates) sample wish list: https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=3244625&WishListTitle=mikoyan (note that WinXP isnt included - you may need to stick with 1GB RAM and get WinXP to meet your budget target)
  8. Have you talked to your instructors about what they recommend for hardware & software? They should be able to give you some ideas of what you need. That - along with your budget - should give the guys around here a good idea of what to recommend for you.
  9. Looks like the art guys are also keeping busy at ED while the programmers are hammering away. Would be nice to see that guy jump up in the hatch and actually operate the weapons..... Don't you guys think is about time for a 'nother video? LOL
  10. Try this topic: For all that play lockon in widescreen format http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=13573
  11. Look in the Lock On/Config folder for the internet.cfg file. Find the chat setting: height = 57; delay = 5; are the values in my internet.cfg file and I'm getting about 5 lines. Compare those values to your own internet.cfg file.
  12. How about you read the manual that you already paid for... It's called LO FC Quick Start Manual 1.1.pdf
  13. http://www.Guru3d.com reviewed and tested the 7950 GX2. Including an attempt to get 2x 7950 GX2s to run in Quad. http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/353/15/ One article says one Quad issue will be enabling support in NVidia Forceware drivers.
  14. I read a similar 7950 GX2 article @ http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2769&p=1 It's more of a 2 GPU solution for motherboards with only a single PCI-E x16 slot. Because of potential BIOS issues and the PCIe switch embedded on the 7950 GX2 it's not being supported for Quad GPU applications (except possibly through some system builders who can do fancy stuff to motherboards and BIOS). Thats not to say its impossible to get a Quad solution with 7950 GX2s. The AnandTech article covers the Quad aspect details and issues. Even so - the card has a pretty impressive performance potential.
  15. I know people would like the drop tanks to match the aircraft skins. But its probably more realistic that the drop tanks NOT match the aircraft paint scheme. There are 2 types of drop tanks. The everyday "pretty" drop tanks the aircraft fly with from the home drome and are re-used over and over. These are the tanks that get matching paint jobs that many people see when the aircraft go to visit air shows and such public events. These drop tanks are never actually meant to be "dropped". Then there are the real "combat" drop tanks. They're usually WRM (war reserve material) either a few sets of pre-assembeled tanks, or un-assembled NFTBU (Nestable Fuel Tank kits) tanks that get "screwed and glued" together and whomped up by the 2A6X4 fuels techs (with non-technical augmentees by other troops). These are the drop tanks actually meant to be dropped in combat. And they don't match the aircraft paint jobs by any stretch of the imagination.
  16. These types of "press embargos" only apply to BEFORE new "stuff" is released for sale to the public. In this case the Conroe press embargo is now lifted and the CPUs in question aren't due to be on sale till 23 July. The procedure is designed to PROTECT consumers - not harm them. Early reviewers usually get "engineering samples" designed for testing - not the production models that we could end up buying. So when the press embargos end it generally means that actual production models are coming out of the factories and so the testers & reviewers can get their hands on the actual parts that we will be able to order. It's those tests and reviews that should be most important to consumers.
  17. I must be a bit out of touch, never realised there was such a high profile example of the US buying UK stuff. Naturally its the Marines again who have a habit of buying the right stuff for the job and not caring too much about the "Made In xxx" label. Over 10 years ago now that I worked on some of the software for the GPS box on the EH101. If memory serves, I was messing around with the 1553 and ARINC429 interfaces.... Nice to know a piece of my Software might just be helping George Dubya to know where he is - LOL I don't think the VH-71s are in service quite yet. Also the EH101 is probably the leading candidate in the CSAR-X program to replace the current CSAR helo's. Could be a LOT more of them than the 23 or so in the VH-71 programmed buy.
  18. Maybe the Marines were closer?? They sent a whole bunch of people to get O'Grady. Besides the Marine TRAP mission (2 CH-53s, 2 AH-1Ws and 2 AV-8s) there were 40 other US aircraft launched or supporting the CSAR mission. 0208am: O'Grady contacts F-16s on his survival radio 0505am: Marine TRAP launches from Kearsarge 0545am: Backup CSAR team launched from base in Italy (SOC CSAR team) 0550am: TRAP mission heads toward O'Grady's position - they had to circle for a bit waiting for the fast-movers and support aircraft to get into position. 0644am: Rescue takes place 0730am: Marines and O'Grady land back on USS Kearsarge All the US Services have CSAR capabilites and CSAR missions are almost always Joint operations. The Marines were "on deck" The SOC CSAR team launched as back-up. And the AF CSAR team was the 2nd back-up option and readying a mission to launch that night if the daylight rescue attempt(s) had to be waived off. Later on (2002) O'Grady sued 20th Century Fox for damages to his character (loosely protrayed in the movie "Behind Enemy Lines". He claims he didn't curse as much as the movie character and never disobeyed orders. :smilewink: He also sued the Discovery Channel claiming they made an unauthorized production of his ordeal. Scott O'Grady alleged the commercial value of his name and identity have been damaged irreparably. O'Grady alleged invasion of privacy and says the two production companies wrongfully profited from his story without trying to secure the proper rights.
  19. Right now Intel is on 65nm cores and AMD on 90nm cores for top of the line CPUs. AMDs 65nm cores are expected to be out in December. Will be interesting to see how much the performance gap narrows when both are on 65nm. We should start hearing rumors on AMDs 65nm slipping out maybe sometime in October.
  20. The official press embargo for Intel Conroe's ends today the 4th of June. AMD's AM2 official press embargo ends June 6th. So we should be seeing even more reviews and evaluations than have slipped out already. I'm curious to know if any one wants to share what they consider excellent sources for PC tech reviews. I usually browse through: http://anandtech.com/ http://www.xbitlabs.com/ http://www.tomshardware.com/index.html
  21. Pretty good video. I worked with some PJs for a couple years during a stint in Combat Plans back in the late 80s. They do have a "different outlook" than your average blue-suiter, thats for sure. Something like 70 weeks of training just go get qualified. Definately an "elite force" by anyone's defination. Wilkinson got the Air Force Cross for his part in the Black Hawk Down operation. Another PJ got a posthumous AF Cross in Afganistan a couple years ago.
  22. You maybe using an outpdated SF removal utility. Try the latest version. There is also the protect.exe file in the Lock On main file folder. It will give you the command line instructions to delete the SF drivers. You can also delete the SF drivers manually using Device Manager.
  23. Was that an English "yet" or a Russian "yet" ?? I did say "yet" and not "nyet"! That wasn't a double negative, was it?
  24. I agree with both points. Things look promising. It's good to read that SF is going to make the effort to get its Vista drivers into the MS Vista digital signature program. There is a driver update out now for Vista Beta testers. And SF made the effort to get SF ver 4 drivers through the "Designed for Windows XP" testing - another good sign. Imagine how much smoother the Flaming Cliffs roll-out would have been if ED and Starforce were able to point out then that SF drivers met the testing criteria in the "Designed for Windows XP" program independtly verified by VeriSign/Veritest. OK, its unlikely that would have satisified everyone. It's not certification that SF drivers will run problem free on all possible combinations of hardware, drivers and software. Still - IMO - any one who was sitting on the fence un-decided, listening to the turbulence caused by the initial SF debate(s) and seeing that SF had passed the "Designed for Windows XP" independent type testing would have had an easier choice to hop down off the fence and buy FC. The debate would still have (IS still) taken place anyway but maybe the volume of the debate would have been lower, and move civil. OK, maybe THAT is stretching wishful thinking a bit too far  :director: An early patch to Flaming Cliffs so that beta testing can get it included in the Vista Game Explorer will help ED avoid problems in the long run when inexperianced users start the migration to Vista. Expert computer users should be able finesse getting 1.02 and FC to run under Vista. Having a specific "Game Definations File" for will go a L O N G to helping those for whom a computer is still a mysterious desktop adornment that can occasionally do interesting things..
  25. Nothing sweeter than seeing a fast-mover get chewed up in a mud-fighters fun... I mean gun sight.
