FATI: a collection of old screenshots of the same sorts of errors & EA glitches we're talking about here from other maps while they were in EA:
-
So you say : "I'm passing on it for now" Just curious - If you haven't bought it, how do you know you "agree with those saying they aren't impressed by this map" & that "The map is super repetitive, flat, or mountainous" Maybe say, otherwise it sounds like you're just making judgements based on other people's posts, which would be a poor way to make decisions.

Jack Spratt would eat no fat His wife would eat no lean between them both every night they licked the platter clean I took one look around this & uninstalled Syria... (I found nicely made, but surprisingly uninspiring for mission making.)

Been away, had a bit of a fly, stopped for lunch. So... On the one hand here we have someone here suggesting that the map is just too big and should have been smaller, and on the other hand there's an entire thread devoted to complaining that it should have been extended all the way down to the PG to allow carrier operations. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ What do you do The more I fly around the more I think it's a very geologically varied map well suited to a wide variety of engagements & scenarios, the more bits I find that could do with more work / are plainly not finished, and the more bits I find that I really like. I imagine when it's finished I'll just have this and the Caucuses map installed (Georgia and Afghanistan being the only two maps that really have the possibility of ongoing 'wars' that don't become world war III within a couple of days of starting).

Isn't what constitutes "A reasonable level of disappointment" the question though? Is it "reasonable" to buy a green hard, plainly unripe avocado from the the market, then go back to the market the next day demanding your money back because the avocado wasn't ripe when you got it home? If you can't find a ripe avocado in the bulk-bin you either don't buy an avocado, or you buy one & wait for it to ripen. Buying it knowing it's not ripe then complaining after the fact that it's not ripe is not expressing a 'reasonable level of disappointment' To the extent that there is a 'reasonable level of disappointment' to be felt here, it should be those people who purchased the early access map - that as I showed above it is plainly stated on the website is unfinished and buggy - being disappointed that they let their impatience get the better of them & purchased something that with a little aforethought they would have known they were going to be unhappy with. Going back to the avocado analogy - if I knowingly buy an unripe avocado for my dinner tonight, the person I should be disappointed with when it's currently inedible is myself, not the supermarket for selling it to me. As to the second point - I can deal with other people's opinions, but I don't have to agree with them & as you said, this is the place to express them (Also - are you actually complaining that I'm killing the complaining vibe in the complaining thread & should take my lack of understanding for complaining to where it doesn't upset people ?)
-
So let me see if I've got it... You believed from previous experience - & before purchase - that this is how the DCS graphics engine renders maps - & you don't like it... & you knew - again, before purchase - that this map was unfinished... but you still find it necessary to complain loudly after purchasing it that the map is unfinished & doesn't render terrain to your satisfaction? ¯\(°_o)/¯ Nope - I don't get it (& you probably shouldn't have)

Disabled, but maybe there should be separate shortcuts for the launcher & the .exe? As someone said it's probably useful for maintenance of modules without waiting for the sim to load & unload & load again - & for those that swap between VR & flat & want to arrive at either in the correct state - but I can't see why you'd want to add that step every time you launch the SIM. I haven't looked - is there a way to re-enable it without entering the SIM (is there any way?) if you wanted to? (I was a bit 'what was old is new' when I saw it - ED where quite invested in getting rid of the launcher not that many years ago..) Edit - A bit like Microsoft putting Unicode text back in the formula bar of excel - it doesn't make it easier to read or parse formulae & there was a reason it was dumped in the first place.

They probably won't, and neither will I, and as a simple customer & can easily see that the old maxim "the customer is always right" is a crock and the reality is a lot of customers are entitled whingers - & that a lot of them don't read the product description before buying
-
& why would you expect any of it to be perfect, when it's all clearly labelled as an unfinished WIP?
-
These are all the way over in China, never mind the parts of the map that are theoretically more developed.
-
I tried to find lots of ways to phrase this that were more polite, but it boils down to - why the F*** do people keep buying early access products - that are clearly labelled as unfinished - then go into emotional meltdowns and paroxysms of forum post rage when they discover the unfinished product they bought is ... unfinished? All the maps were of poorer quality when released than they are now - ALL OF THEM. Frame rates on the Mariannas map were so poor when it was released that after trying the day I downloaded I didn't even bother looking at it again for months & until it had been patched a few times. It's a nice map now, but wasn't when released. Afghanistan is in its first day of Early Access & people are complaining that it's not as polished as maps that have been being patched and de-bugged for years - in some cases a decade or more. After the tsunami of whingeing that appeared on the map's release, I downloaded & started it with a heavy heart, but I'm pleasantly surprised. There are some rough bits but on the whole - it looks an interesting map & geographically varied (even the north-east part of the initial release is far from being 'another desert map'), the frame rates are good, bits of the map are beautiful, and at 0m to 50m altitude, and from a couple of thousand m AGL it looks very nice. In between there are a few things to work on - but that's why they repeatedly, all over the forum, all over the download page and all over every social media channel and internet site it's mentioned on, say 'IT'S NOT FINISHED" If, when they say it's 'finished', you think its's not up to scratch - complain then. If it takes too long to get to 'finished' complain about that (but please wait at least a week from today) But for God's sake please stop complaining that the product you consciously bought in the full knowledge that it is unfinished, is unfinished, & do the rest of us a favour by not buying any more early access products. Please. We'll all be happier

If this didn't count as a "stopper", it'd be interesting to know what did... Or maybe just everyone that's a tester had FC4 installed :-)

They did what they said they'd do - they planned for a date, but had to change those plans. Bignewy, July 3: "correct planned for 4th of July now" Do I think this happens too often - maybe... Do I think they deliberately mislead us - definitely not... Responding to your very OT question: The world is the way it is because people have forgotten that society is the actual building block of humanity, and fetishised the individual. Want to see what true individualism divorced from society looks like (?) - watch 'Naked and alone' We have become like ants that at one and the same time expect the benefits of the community, and the right to ignore the community's needs when it suits their individual desires. Our hubris makes us forget that we are each just part of a larger interdependent system, & treat everything and everyone as if they existed only for our exploitation. That is why the world is the way it is.

Which Zaranj airbase are we getting, the old Soviet one in the center of the city, or the new one 20km to the east of the city?
-
Hopefully the Devs are looking at that example and building the housing for an NS 430 GPS as a selectable option into their model from release

secret and classified are not the same thing. There are flight manuals all over the internet for all kinds of aircraft, and you can compile an accurate startup check list from one of those. While they are no longer "secret" many are still classified, and as a Russian owned company E.D. has to be particularly careful about avoiding classified data. I'm petty sure a couple of years ago an E.D. employee was detained and questioned for being in possession of a manual that was freely available on the internet. Reproducing a checklist verbatim from a manual would imply that they had access to a manual, or that someone with access to what is still officially classified material had given them that data. From their point of view it's probably simpler to just make up their own list that they know differs from SOP, but that works and isn't confusable with the 'official' list. Or maybe you're right & they're just to lazy to copy and paste from official documentation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
To the original post - wouldn't it make more sense to just have E.D. implement AutoStart in a way that it's no quicker than starting yourself ? Perhaps they can't use the real list order from official documents because then it would look like they were using official documents & they can't be seen to be using classified data (which is why we can't link actual manuals on the forum)

He means it's like when my boy was little & insisted on using the Camaro in Age of Empires. You don't have to good, you just win,

I think they're waiting until they can auto-translate red transmissions to Russian for blue eavesdroppers & blue to Norwegian for Red. That would be more realistic wouldn't it?

The E-shop currently says the supported maps are : The device supports navigation on next maps: Caucasus, Nevada, Normandy 1944 and Persian Gulf Did the newer maps ever get added ? Syria for example ?

Door of the ka-50 to be closed as a condition (mission editor)
Weta43 replied to Er.tz's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark 3
I did that with black shark 2 - I guess it's the same for 3. If you look at the cockpit in the model viewer you can find the argument for the door & use the cockpit argument in range X:Y trigger -
There were 2 bugs reported in this thread. If you read the rest of the thread you'll see what they were: the first was that the cursor moved erratically when locked even if the plane was still. That got fixed. the second was that the laser designator drifted if you tried moving it after it was locked. That's not a bug. The laser is gyroscopically stabilised, but not very well while you're moving the piper, so while you move it after lock it does effectively move with the glass not the ground. The way to counter this is to not move the designator while maneuvering. Fly the designator onto the target & lock. Maneuver - if you have to adjust the aim point hold the aircraft steady while you do so, move the designator, maneuver.
