Yup. That was the whole point of HOTAS, so you're not having to look down into the cockpit to find a switch. You don't need to see your hands to operate a HOTAS, and although I've never tried it, it seems like using VR controllers would be clunky at best.

[REPORTED]MLWS not detecting Stinger/Igla missiles
eaglecash867 replied to Rex854Warrior's topic in Bugs and Problems
Mine works sometimes. I don't think that the real-world MLWS is a catch-all, but its one of those systems that is a closely-guarded secret, and all anybody here can do is speculate as to what we think it "should" do. I fly in VR pretty much exclusively, and my best MLWS is the good old-fashioned Mk 1 Eyeball. -
If you still have your Warthog HOTAS, it will do about 95% of the things you really need in flying the A-10C. For the other aircraft, you'll probably have to tweak the default control settings, but your Warthog can carry most of the workload in any of the jets.

Weight of the A-10C before landing ...
eaglecash867 replied to CTBlankenship's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
The maximum gross weight for towing, taxiing, takeoff, and landing is 46,000 pounds. -
AFAIK, that button does nothing for WMR headsets. You still need to edit the defaultvrsettings file to turn reprojection on and off.

If 2.5.4 was any indication, I think the only time we'll see a major improvement in VR performance will be when 2.5.7 is released. I tried every patch of 2.5.4, hoping performance would improve back to how good it was in 2.5.3, and it never happened. The magic bullet, for me, in that case ended up being the release of 2.5.5. Just speculating of course. :)

My experience with 45 FPS with motion reprojection on has been the same as yours. I can turn things up to the point where it still shows 45 FPS on the frame counter, but it looks and feels awful. Most of the time, people having problems are trying to run their settings too high. SS or PD have a major impact on that. The higher you go, the worse it gets. I'm running 100% SS right now, with 1.0 DCS PD, and 4X MSAA, and 45 FPS looks and feels just fine. Could I get more clarity by running a higher SS? I could, but the side effects outweigh the benefits for me. It runs great the way I have it set now.

Strange. Mine has slightly more padding that the original (pro pad) and gave me a little more eye relief which helped with my being able to see the edges of the lenses. No lens adapters here though.

I've got a 49" Samsung QLED 4K TV hooked up to my gaming rig, and the quality of the video is fantastic. But, it doesn't change the fact that its like watching an HD movie about flying a plane. I can make believe that I'm looking between trees and buildings, but I'm just looking at the space between pictures of trees and buildings. In VR, I don't have to make believe that I'm doing that, my brain is tricked into believing I'm really looking between actual trees and buildings. I don't have the depth perception or spatial awareness in 2D, no matter how big or high-resolution my TV is, it just isn't there.

i5 vs i7, what would you suggest for DCS VR?
eaglecash867 replied to sirrah's topic in Virtual Reality
Heh...not sure the i9 existed yet when this thread was started. It has definitely pulled a Bernie Lomax. :D -
Still getting the wow factor from VR. The 1:1 head movement, along with the depth perception, makes missile/gun evasion a snap compared to the pancake. Those same things also made it so I actually enjoy dogfighting. Just couldn't get into a never-ending turning fight where I had no spatial awareness on a monitor. With the Reverb, I can easily read all of my instruments and haven't really had issues with being able to spot and track other aircraft. I have even managed to eyeball my Mavericks all the way to their targets. Its also pretty cool to squint and instinctively put my hand up to shield my eyes from the sun or its reflections off the canopy.

No reason to use the OB version for the A-10C. The Stable version will be just fine, or better.

I tried the F/A-18 earlier today, and I can see everything on the HUD. Not sure what you mean by speed and altitude tapes. The F/A-18 HUD doesn't have those. Airspeed and altitude are displayed in blocks, not far from the horizontal center of the HUD. No problems here with the title screen either. Sounds like you might briefly be losing tracking, so you might want to re-run the sensor calibration for your Rift. How many sensors do you have for your Rift? Having two of them helps immensely with intermittent tracking problems, especially at longer distances between the HMD and the sensors.

Hi Notso, Have a look at this thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=253988&highlight=aurelius I have an imageshack link in there that shows all of the settings I am using. The screenshots of SteamVR settings are a little outdated, but the settings in them are still valid. Also, as far as I know, SteamVRs "Motion Smoothing" setting does nothing with WMR headsets. That may no longer be true, since that incompatibility issue was disclosed by Steam a long time ago, so they may have fixed it since then. But, something I KNOW currently works is to manually edit your defaultvrsettings file for SteamVR for WMR. Here is a good link from Microsoft that shows you how to do that. Again, older version of SteamVR, so the screenshots aren't identical to what you'll see now, but the file editing process to turn on Motion Reprojection is still the same. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/using-steamvr-with-windows-mixed-reality

Each engine also has its own generator. Once you get the engines running, and turn on their generators, you can turn off the APU generator and the APU.

All I can say is to try the commands in the link to one of my past posts. This works for me, and I can see the whole HUD when I get my default view set correctly. The VR zoom function really doesn't do the same thing. All it does is to magnify your current view, you need to physically move your virtual position in the cockpit. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3830595&postcount=2

You're sitting too far back in the cockpit, move your default view forward.

Understood. Just want to keep people from thinking that the compass behavior in DCS isn't realistic when comparing it to that video. You can get away with poor maintenance like that in a fixed-wing jet. Not so much in helicopters or piston-engined aircraft that vibrate all the time. Heh, sorry, just one of my pet peeves. Its such an easy thing to fix, so seeing things like that in an AF jet frustrates me. LOL :smilewink:

WMR VR vs. TrackIR for DCS - which would you chose?
eaglecash867 replied to jlummel's topic in Virtual Reality
Yup. You're not going to break anything on your computer by trying both options that you already have available to you. Use the force, Luke! :D -
If its properly serviced with compass fluid, it doesn't do that. Notice how you can clearly see a miniscus about a third of the way down the glass? That compass needs fluid. :smilewink:

All I can say is to turn your SteamVR SS back down to 100% and see if that gets you smooth performance. If it does, then just gradually ramp it up until you get a compromise that you're happy with for clarity and performance. I have both the latest beta and 2.5.5 stable installed on my machine. If you have room for both, I'd highly recommend having both. That way, you can always have one version that you know works well enough for you, while still being able to try out the beta and any new features it may have added. When 2.5.6 came out, I FINALLY updated my stable from 2.5.3 to 2.5.5. I had been keeping it at that version since, for me, 2.5.4 was such a disaster for VR performance and recurring problems with seeker orientation on the AGM-65s.

VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
eaglecash867 replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
The EIDE hard drive isn't helping the situation. Also, nobody knows what VR headset you're using or any other important detail that would help us help you. -
And how many months it will take to actually get one after they've been released. Until then, I'm going to look at the G2 like Arnold Schwazenegger might "Its not a tumah! Its only a rumah!" :D
-
Yup. I've never seen any difference with deleting those files and letting them rebuild. The only time you have to do it is when you use the shaders mod. I think we can classify this one as an urban legend...in the same vein as erroneous posts, later recanted, involving "finding the Holy Grail of performance" by setting the WMR refresh rate to 60Hz, or telling people that Steam VRs Motion Smoothing is automatically enabled on WMR headsets.

I'm running 4X MSAA with my Reverb and get very little shimmering, just have to keep my SteamVR SS at 100% to compensate for the performance hit from MSAA. That's OK now though, since 100% SS finally gets us close to native resolution on the Reverb.
