  1. I’d like to better understand the “reference” points that are input into the INU panel. I think I understand the concept—that when you fly over this known point (landmark??) you tell the computer you are there, and it is able to tweak/correct/update the system from any errors acquired. However, if there are errors acquired already—how do you know you’re over the reference point??!! That is to say, you’re using the system to fly to the reference point, but you’ve already got errors, so who’s to say you’re really over the point when you think you are? The only thing I can think of—is that these reference points are landmarks of some kind, or radio beacons. I’m sure there’s an obvious answer to this—please enlighten me! Also--does the GPS/Sat system update the INU at all? Some sort of cross-check?
  2. ...on CNN video here: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/04/11/usaf.flyover/index.html Not a bad video, sort of gave me the goosebumps.
  3. Gracias--looking forward to it!
  4. I did do some training with an F-16 pilot--online. I had to study hard--and practice alot in order to pass his "check" rides. Unfortunately, things fell to the wayside--as he was trying to setup a flight school of sorts--with Microprose--and it all got lost when Microprose stopped supporting F4, or went out of business--can't remember which. That training was fantastic though--every second I was busy in that cockpit--and this was for simply going to a practice area of sorts--and making sure I could stay in that area by using my TACAN, etc. Then the flight back for the landing on a certain radial, etc. I hope to train with similiar intensity with BS!
  5. BTW Az--good job on the Robin DR-400! I would have been scared shi*less
  6. Yes--they have plenty of real flight hours of course--just not in that aircraft! And I also agree with you--that a helicopter would be a different story!
  7. I was fortunate enough to fly a simulator at a well-known airline--my brother in law is a pilot there. This was before 9/11, and I was able to watch him take a "test" in the simulator--and at the end, I got some stick time--albeit only 5 minutes. I was able to take off, and then come around for a landing, which I did successfully. My only experience flying comes from flight sims (falcon 4, Jane's F/A 18). I did bounce the landing though lol. My brother in law told me it cost like 10K a day to run the simulator! Also--I asked him how much real airtime the pilots get before they have passengers on board--and the answer astonished me. Zero. None. They go right from the simulator to the real deal with passengers on board!
  8. It's more like a euphoric, blissfull type feeling :D
  9. I don't have anywhere behind me to put it either! I'm thinking dropping it from the ceiling isn't a bad idea--right underneath the projector. :)
  10. that might actually work! Thanks for idea
  11. Has anyone used a track IR with a projector? My problem: I've got my computer next to my couch--with my projector mounted on the ceiling. It projects the computer's image on the wall in front of me. I have a wireless keyboard/mouse setup. I just pull out my cougar HOTAS and set it on a small table (footrest) in front of me--and I'm good to go. I'm trying to figure out where my track IR device can be--since there's really nothing in front of me to set it on! Any ideas? Thanks for any replies!
  12. A thousand pardons. lol, nice.
  13. Thanks for the update! Fascinating stuff--
  14. I'm having no trouble at all with Vista. After reading the forums here, I almost got XP, but after some further research, I got Vista. I haven't had a single issue--and haven't had to do anything "special" to get games to run. I currently have installed: Silent Hunter IV, Lockon Flaming Cliffs, and World In Conflict. I really like the new look. I read an article online--I think it was Tom's Hardware, that benchmarked XP vs. Vista with a number of games. If I recall, it was pretty much a wash--perhaps with Vista doing a little better. However, time will tell. I've only had it for a month or so.
  15. no problems here, sorry mate.
  16. LOL-- "graphices" = crappy graphics.
  17. I had to bite the bullet and get a new PC the other day--(I had a window of opportunity I HAD to use). I went to Alienware and got a Intel Core Duo @ 2.66, 2 GB RAM @ 800, Vista Home Premium, and a GeForce 8800 GTS (320mb). I was skeptical at first, about Vista--but I haven't had a single issue with it--and I really like the performance, and the way it looks. I'm running Flaming Cliffs, Silent Hunter 4, and World in Conflict--all maxed out in graphices--with no problems at all. I'm hoping I can use this system for DCS:BS, and perhaps BoB. I figured if I need to--I can upgrade the processor to a quad, upgrade to 4gb of RAM, and another video card for SLI. For all the Alienware Haters out there--I was really pleased with the end result--very professional--excellent wiring and cooling included. I don't know if it was worth the extra $600 bucks--but for reasons I won't go into here, I had no choice.

  19. In single player, will I be able to pilot any other ship than "lead" in a flight?
  20. FPK = Flash Point Korea (an addon to LB1)
  21. Excellent! The more the merrier :)
  22. http://www.simhq.com/_air10/air_320a.html A great new article at SimHQ--brought back a lot of memories! I hope I'll be creating a lot of new memories with BS :smilewink: And wow--you can actually get Longbow 2 to run on today's PC's!?
  23. Thanks for the preview!
  24. I wonder if they are going to crop the top and bottom of a 4:3 image--or if we're going to get actually more displayed on the left and right? Not really that important to me--just curious! :music_whistling:
