Will all future addon aircraft/helos have the AFM? Is that the plan?
-
4.0 patch is out--with new AFM. It's much better--hat's off to Oleg. However, it pales in comparison to the AFM for the Su-25 in LOMAC--ED did an outstanding job, IMHO. It's seems leaps and bounds ahead of the new AFM in IL2. Of course, they are two completely different sims--IL2 has to have a lot more planes in the air, etc.--hopefully with BoB, they will improve it even further. In comparing the two--LOMAC just seems to have a better sense of flight, to me. I've never flown a real a/c--though I've flown a real sim at Jet Blue (landed on first try, hehe). The russians dominate the sim market--thank god for the Russians!! (not to mention the market on classic literature, my other favorite hobby!) I am looking forward to F4AF, but I predict I'll be right back to LOMAC and IL2, after having been spoiled with the flight models.

no change in overcast for me
-
I've had mine since it came out as well--and have had to clean the pots once--no other problems.
-
Thanks Zoomboy--that oughta give me enough info to properly load out my a/c for my missions.
-
I'm starting to build my own missions--and need to know roughly how far a certain amount of fuel will get you in the Su-25T. Is there some kind of table or spreadsheet available? I know that things like arms load and weather make a difference--I just don't know where to start.
-
It seems to me that the Su-25's skin/gfx model is superior to other a/c in the sim--or am I just that enamored with it? :D If it's different--why don't they make all of the skins, at least for the flyables, that good? Not a complaint--just interested in whether the Su-25' s model is higher quality.

If it's the Su-25 you are flying--read the manual carefully. There is no "reset trim" function on the Su-25--so whenever you engage an autopilot mode--it trims the a/c to achieve it's goal--when you take it off the auto pilot mode--the trim from the autopilot is still there--and you have to manually get it back to normal. However--I've found the easiest way is to use the Alt-1 autopilot mode after getting my nose where I want it--it will trim the a/c to that exact position--then you can cancel the autopilot with Alt-9--and you should be good to go. This is basically how I fly the aircraft--as I havent' ventured too far into the other autopilot modes. Beware of using the "A" autopilot mode--and disengaging it while it's turning--as stated above. Ironhand has created a first-rate training mission about the Su-25, introducing you to many of the autopilot modes available to the Frogfoot, among other things. Check it out here: http://flankertraining.com/lomac/missions/Su-25T_Orientation-Ironhand.zip

Yup, I've heard WEZ, too. I learned from a Navy Controller--so perhaps "FBR" is more from a controller's perspective, vectoring flights into fights, out of fights, etc., having to know the enemy a/c in order to make prudent decisions on tactics, etc.
-
FBR = Factor Bandit Range This is the range that an enemy aircraft can "reach out and touch you" with his weapons. If you know that a certain aircraft can only employ weapons on you within 10 nm, you know to stay out of that range, and employ your weapons so he can't ever get a missile on you. Knowing the enemy a/c's FBR can allow you to use certain tactics (pincer, etc.) to your advantage, while exploiting their weaknesses. FBR would be just one advantage falling under the "know thy enemy" axiom--in addition to knowing their radar type, as Ironhand so pointedly showed us with his track.
-
I was afraid that would be the answer ;) Knowing your adversary is of the utmost importance--among other things, knowing FBR, or Factor Bandit Range, is vital as well.
-
Ironhand--is there any resource within the program (or documentation) that gives us this important information? I looked in the encyclopedia--and it doesn't say what kind of radar the different a/c possess.
-
Excellent info on the Weta! I'll be sure to check out your cameo in LOTR--I watch those films entirely too much :)
-
Make sure you don't have cockpit reflections on when flying the Su-25
-
Weta--do you work for Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop? What is a weta?
-
Have you tried Zoomboy's excellent campaigns? http://www.geocities.com/jzoomiethomas/flightsims.html

Need a few people to test an installation

works for me! -
nice video--excellent camera work!
-
I recall in "Vipers in the Storm" that F-16's made multiple passes on targets--but perhaps that was a unique situation--with no Iraqui airforce, etc.
-
thanks guys--I'll try to incorporate all of the above :)
-
Just flew zoom's first mission in the mountains--and after making a few passes on the first target--had to RTB because of fuel. Ends up--I didn't make it--by a hair, and tried to land on a road--that is to say, I crashed. the "T" version has longer legs--would hate to fly the original! how can I calculate how much range I have left/need?
-
a bit off topic but... I thought my trackIR was going nuts, twitching all over the place--until I realised high speeds in the su-25 causes a bit of a shake :D
-
Just completed the training mission--another awesome, perfectly thorough session from Ironhand! Looking forward to any more coming down the pike :)
