Hey man, you are welcome! G.I.Joe was a great part of my childhood too. Now I'm playing with the sims... and it's been a long time since a good fixed wing sim like A-10. The last one I played was Jane's F-18.

From the YoJoe.com site: In 1984 the Cobras already had a VTOL Warthog...:prop: Follow the link: http://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/84/rattler/ VTOL Isometric view: http://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/84/rattler/rattler_iso2.shtml And ther's the good guys version too: http://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/88/tigerrat/ Very funny... :megalol:

I don't know if it is modeled in the game, but I believe that the problems with SFWs has been the footprint profile. Some videos on YouTube show that if you send the CBU right in the center of a group of vehicles spread out in an area, the Pk will be very high. Maybe the varying results people have is due to that. Look in this video at 3:28 for the footprint profile. It has the form of 4 elipses centered in a point. Each elipse is an individual skeet trajectory. Video: Textron Systems BLU-108 SFW

As the game is now, you better take your own notes. My "kneepad" consists of a small piece of paper with the frequencies for JTACs I must contact and airport frequencies. The rest you either get from the HUD (each waypoint identified: IP, Target, etc.) and from the TAD. Well, that's the way I do it.

LOL. nice one! Talk about a low flying, low speed ground attack aircraft. :D
-
LOL. Funny how those pictures of the F-15 at the game start are nice. Hmmm...F-15....

+1! Nice vid! Keep'em coming!

Ok, nice to know. The games look beautiful on your video (on Wagmatts also). And nice YouTube channel too.:v: -
DCS A-10c Final video (gun sound improvement?)
RodBorza replied to Ranger79's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
It sounds like hitting a steel drum repeatedly. And the game looks beautiful too. What are your system specs and what are your videos options? -
Yayyy!! A big woo-hayy for ED! Thanks and well done!

No problem man! Happy hunting!

In the cockpit you won't find it. You better designate another button for NWS. You can do that by going to Options>Controls and filtering for HOTAS. I use my pinky switch for PAC (my joystick doens't have two stages) and for NWS I use another one on the Joystick. Or, you even can assigne it to a keyboard key if there is no more room on your HOTAS system.
-
Good to know that works mate! And that makes sense too. Normally the Steerpoint is already the SPI, so changing to Mark points and they already being SPI is very good. Must makes multiple Mavericks runs easier. Did you watch ExcessiveHeadspace video on TGP use? That explains what happens. Or, if you are using laser to designate targets and still having problems with target offset, check if your laser is with Lacth On. Otherwise, you only have laser if you maintain NWS pressed. If still having problems, then must be a bug on Beta 4.

I know that every pilot has its own HOTAS configuration and I believe I know what you 've been going trhough. I do have a very simple joystick and thorttle that I use for this game. It has all commands: hat for looking around; Crtl+hat for trimming; Shift+hat for slewing; Alt+hat for DMS and Win+ hat for TMS. In my own crazy way it works fine. However, the coolie hat is configured as the keyboard standard: H,J,K,U. After while its been easy to find and its been working fine. Just hold 'K', and then it is TGP as SOI, hold U for HUD, hold H for TAD and so on... Try to do it with the keyboard, I think it'll work and you won't have any problems. My 2 cents.

Rextar, I think you are missing something. Trying to look at the map with the coordinates given by the JTAC is a lot of unecessary work. What you'll have do to is this: 1) Check -in; 2) Get the 9-line from the JTAC; What I Think that you are missing is: 3) Go for the radio and choose 9-line readback After this, the JTAC will send you the coordinates by Data Link. Press Wilco on the TAD, make the red triangle that will appear your SPI and then you will be able to find the targets.

Eddie..man...best answer ever! I watched all those videos on YouTube of guys dropping multiple JDAMs on multiple targets and thought:"that's cool" However...a little bit cumbersome with a new flight plan and all... It's a shame I can't test it right now, but I will in the future (maybe in Beta 6...oppsss..sorry for pressing you guys...:D) And thanks for the tip on the UFC. It's a powerful tool, literally right in front of us, and we don't use it. Too much concentration on the CDU. Have to think more as a fighter pilot...:joystick:

I think you can do that with Mavericks as well, but only for statioonary targets. That's something I have to test myself but at this moment I cannot. I'm away from my beautifully DCS installed, A-10 /HOTAS equipped computer . What you can do is as follows: for each target create a Mark Point with TMS Right Short while using the TGP. After that you can create a new Flight Plan as you saw in the You Tube videos. Then, do as follows: 1) With TMS Aft Long you make the Steerpoint your SPI (page 85 of the manual); 2) China Hat Forward Long to slave all to the waypoint (in this case a target previously marked as markpoint). Then it is a matter of only locking the MAV and fire. 3) Then select the next waypoint and do it again. What I did not have the chance to test is if you can do all of this without having to resort to the creation of a new flight plan. I think it is possible to store the markpoints with the TGP as above, then going to the Auxiliary Avionics Panel next to the CDU (page 166 of the manual) and changing the Steerpoint knob to Mark. Now you can rotate through all markpoints. To attack the targets you do as above. I think it will work and you won't have to create a new Flight Plan. If it works, please let us know. :pilotfly:

I believe that what you were seeing was the panel light switch, that can be configured to use with NVGs. I really don't remember if the manual mentions it, tough...

I understand that there are many things classified on the F-35, but I brought it up because since ED makes sims for the training, maybe, just maybe, they would be working on a F-35 sim and would release it commercially. But, since many things are top secret, maybe will have a F-18 in our hands. About the AT-802U: that's the REAL low-flying, slow speed close air support. For a (ir)regular combatant on the ground, that is a nasty airplane to go against. Surely, would be EPIC. LOL.
-
Same here. I only press ACK on the lower right and that's it.
-
i know this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find it by doing a search. ED said that the next on the series will be an american fixed wing aircraft. Many want the F-16, the F-15E and many more want the F/A-18. But I was thinking..what about the F-35? Would ED go all "MicroProse" on us and release something on the 35, as MP did with the F-19?

A good thing to do while you are learning weapons usage it to do the first Instant Action Mission - Georgia Spring. There are a variety of targets in there, the threat environment is low (but gradually gets higher) and it is a good place to test your skills. I lost count of how many times I did this mission, one eye on the screen other on the manual, making notes and restarting it to do the right way next time. The cannon works nicely for soft targets at long distance. For the A-10 the gun is considered a stand-off weapon. It can destroy trucks, IFVs, Artillery, SAMs up to 12000 ft (2nm) with a half to 1-second burst. The best shooting distance is when the gun distance bar cue is at the 9'o clock position to the 6'o clock position. With thanks, then it is a whole different story. You'll need to get very close ( 3000 feet - 3'o clock position), from behind and give it a full 2 second burst.

Welcome tho the A-10! Your pre- "flight computer assisted control" friend. I think that what you are missing is trimming. The A-10 is a very different beast from the F-15, so you'll have to manually trim the aircraft for pitch and roll. Every change on speed and even assimetrical loadout will need a little bit of trim. So, look at the HOTAS section of controls option and assign it to one of your controls. Maybe this helps.
-
Good to know that you managed it! Two questions: 1) Why are you crashing? Are you not enganging the Autopilot to search and lock on targets? 2) What do you mean by "jam"? Wouldn't it be "stores hung" warning? For JDAMs you need to pay attention to when to drop them by looking at the HUD. Look at the link I sent to you. And when you have the release cue, you need to press and HOLD the button. If you press and release, they will not drop and you'll get the hang store warning.
