+1 confirm on this. SB-SK FARP only Ka-50s slots (no Huey and no Mi-8 slots). Senaki-Kolkhi Mi-8 airstart also may be causing a bug in the lives counter, because no take off is registered, but if you land you get a life back. S!

Hi GUMAR, First of all, these EWR units are old and slow rotating radar antennas, and have a limited range of around 15 nm. Secondly you need to be very careful where you place them as they also have the LOS limitations, especially in areas where the horizon is just to the next hill. Third and last, they do show up on the F-15 RWRs, so they do radiate, but if they forward their information to the CA clients I'm not 100% sure. If not then this is a DCS issue. I think the best way to test this is to continue making helicopter sorties to deploy in areas where there is no radar coverage, and check the F10 map for positive returns in areas where you shoudn't be seeing anything if your side's Su-27s (or F-15s for the blue side) are not there. Не разрешается перемещать сухопутные подразделения за пределами цели. 3. Только блок SA-9 (SHORAD) упал с вертолета разрешается передвигать в любом направлении на карте и только от первого лица. 4. Нельзя прятать сухопутные подразделения в зданиях или в оборонительных опорных пунктов FARP. Пожалуйста ознакомьте всех с этими правилами. Спасибо S!

Yes, the BMS team did a brilliant piece of work there with the IVC program that integrates with the Falcon exe. I know that there are several initiatives in the DCS community (Aries?) that may have good petential. In the IAF for several years before BMS we are using the same methodology for the comms setup in teamspeak, so when BMS came along in 2011/12 it was very satisfying for us to discover that we were using very similar conventions to how virtual radios should be simulated with built in functionality of TeamSpeak. Learning proper brevity and "pilot talk" in English at least as well as we do in Hebrew however... this is something that we still practice and needs constant discipline... :smilewink: Falcon Online events and the events on the 104th server are very good for this. S!

I can tell you that from my experience flying online sims for a good 17 years now we are so lucky that we have Teamspeak. Back in the days of Warbirds we used the chat system and that was all we had. There was a failed attempt by HighTech and Pyro (the developers) to give some bandwidth to an in game voice comms they developed but with the 33.6 kbps modems of the day it simply did not work. It worked eventually in Aces High quite well, but until then there was the chat box, and you would frequently see a running chat that you could scroll (in DCS we can't scroll back in game) with so much information from various channels that it was almost impossible to really make out what was important and every now an then a some guy sending a screaming 66666666666!!!!!!! in the chat box that drove everybody insane... Then came Roger Wilco that was based on VOIP with one client as the hub which was a step in the right direction, but hardly any functionality if compared to teampseak like being connected to more then one server, whispers and channel commander, etc. There are two ways to approach this: Reality and Functionality. Here is how we do it in the IAF Community: In reality you can only listen to one frequency for each receiver you have. You can only transmit to one frequency for every transceiver you have. An modern aircraft will typically have one UHF and one VHF radio, with perhaps one additional receiver. So when we want our comms to imitate the realistic limitations we add sub-channels as necessary and use teamspeak functions as follows: 1. We use the sub-channel we are in and the default PTT as the VHF radio, and limit to 4 to 6 pilots, representing "the flight" i.e. the basic organic structure of two pairs. Sometimes we will stretch it to 8 pilots in the same channel, but that is the maximum amount of pilots you want in one channel to maintain crisp clear comms and good SA, and I'm talking about experienced virtual pilots! not noobs that will flood the channel with irrelevant information and annoying questions like where's the master arm switch when you're flight is in the middle of a dogfight. 2. We use Whispers between other sub-channels in the parent channel (including our own) as the UHF frequency used by "the package" that are essentially working together to achieve a certain objective (i.e. the Escort Flight, the SEAD Flight, and the Strike Flight). So anybody in these three flights "whispering" to this function will be heard by all sub-channels including their own. 3. We use Channel Commander (toggling ON/OFF as needed) to imitate the guard frequency for theatre-wide communication with other squads, GCI, AWACS, etc. That's just one way to do this. I'm sure there are many more ways with teh awesome functionality of teamspeak. Now if we forget about imitating reality we have many ways to this with teamspeak Functionality. We can all be in one channel and just whisper to our flight members, and use the regular transmit to the whole channel as the UHF or Guard channel. You can create sub channels and set that only certain members can have talk power on these flight dedicated channels. really anything you like. Edit: I think its important that we continue to communicate between our squads with the Channel Commander (Orange light) and those CA individuals playing the role of GCI/AWACS also please continue to use Channel Commander for the benefit of all squads. I am also totally OK for squad leaders to have a Channel Admin for their own channel on the Buddy Spike Teamspeak, so they can setup a reasonable amount of sub-channels with their own rules and privileges as they see fit that meets their professional standard. @Esac: I see no problem with using 1st person for hiding tanks under an open hangar. It's called setting up an ambush and it is very realistic. Being an ex-military ground forces myself, I can assure you that no soldier would wait exposed in the open... Its not even considered hiding because the CA of the opposing side will see the tank in the F10 view if you overfly close enough. IMHO allowing the 1st person mobility of ground units adds a good tactical dimension to the campaign. Offcourse I am all against the CA moving units from the F10 map and if I see anybody doing this I will report them immediately. S!

Last round you restarted the server every 3 hours or so to help with the stability. The number of lives lost is remembered in case of server restart? Brilliant work guys! I'm very much hoping to see people fly carefully to take care not to lose their virtual lives. Even if its more then what a cat gets, but that's fine. S!

Not really an epic picture, but the narrative in itself is interesting. IAF Squadron attacking the Nalchik / Sukumi FARP and I was inbound Mi-8 with troops. Our Toads and Hogs are orbiting the FARP, everything is down, but our TARCAP is reporting that there are enemy Su-27s inbound to the FARP and they must engage immediately! The pressure is on to capture quickly!!! I was flying so fast over 300 kph in a dive from the mountains behind me and into the valleys below, the Mi-8 was shaking like nuts and needed constant mini-inputs to the cyclic to make sure that it stays under control at this crazy speed for a helicopter. Focusing solely on the challenge of flying the Mi-8 at this ridiculous speed I dared not go to the F10 map to verify my position. Am I in the correct valley? Does anybody see me? I asked and to my surprise, my squad mate IAF.Yuval in an Su-25 answers: I've marked with smoke the path to the FARP along the valley you should be travelling up to the FARP. If you see a trail of smoke markers then you know you're in the correct valley! 30 seconds later I corner a bend in the valley and see a trail of smoke markers!!! Capture success! :D Turns out that IAF.Yuval mistakenly took smoke rockets instead of regular rockets, but made good use of them! Salute Yuval! -
Hi, does LotATC have the capability to support radars that are created during the mission? i.e. helicopter transported mobile radar sets deployed anywhere on the map (menu driven script spawns EWR unit at heli landed location). thanks!

Gents, Last night I stayed up until 4 AM flying a Mi-8 with troops to Maykop! I've never stayed up to 4 AM since the days of Warbirds back in 1997-8. The tactical helo hide & seek / cat & mouse game on the way in to Maykop was simply awesome. Just South of Maykop the Huey gunships you had up and patrolling over the city was a smart move! The helicopter gunship dogfights in the area of Maykop were epic!!!!!! You guys defended Maykop like lions! Now it looks like the end is near (but there may be surprises - who knows) I want to say that I enjoyed this campaign very much! Thank you Xcom, Greg, Crash and thank you to all the dedicated pilots and squads who flew with us and against us. Thank you Frostie, and Teknetinium and the rest of the 51st Sqn for giving me near heart attacks each time I engage your Su-27s with my F-15. You guys fly and fight like I've never seen anyone else fight with the Su-27s. Same goes for 238 Sqn, HA, UVAF, NOB, 373rd and other squads on the red side. I will double my efforts for good SA when I will see your names in a server. Thank you to 42 Squadron, 104 Sqn, VEAF Sqn, TAW and all other Blue Squadrons for being such good team players. It was through your coordinated efforts that we have succeeded so far, so quickly. A special thank you to -=42=-MULE and IASGATG for their brilliant work as GCI / AWACS. Salute! ViFF

Hi Rivvern! Welcome to the campaign! The EWR units at every base are supplying radar coverage and triggering the AI F-4E (Blue) / MiG-23 (Red) interceptors, so long as the EWR units are not destroyed. We have the option of increasing radar coverage by heli transporting mobile radar units. The more Air Bases and FARPS owned by a side the better the coverage. The tactical commander (CA) slots are able to see the radar picture, hence play the JTAC / AWACS role. We have some very good Blue players that have been consistently playing this role very well: IASGATG and =42=Mule are two good examples for human JTAC / AWACS. They have managed very well the F-15 assets: dispatching and guiding them across the breadth of the theatre where needed, as opposed to just having F-15 pilots operating each on their own without coordination, without support. I will recommend them for a medal at the end of the campaign! S!

You must also be on the guard for enemy helicopters sneaking in enemy troops at the moment of capture! Here is an example of what Greg did to the IAF team during the tests of the campaign: It took a long time for us to destroy all the forces at Beslan, and the only helicopter we had was carrying a SHORAD load (2x SA-9 vehicles). There were very few red online and apart from a few harassments with Su-27s it was only a matter of time until we killed the red ground forces at Beslan. So we finally get the closed message at Beslan, and the helicopter lands and offloads the 2x SA-9 BRDMs, we capture Beslan and everybody lands at Beslan to celebrate. During the whole ordeal Greg decides to do an unconventional move: he loaded up a helicopter with a mortar team, and sneaked it near the airport when we were all on the ground celebrating the capture. As soon as the mortar team deploys, they open fire on the 2x SA-9 BRDMs on the field and destroy them. Now Beslan was still closed, and the only ground units within the capture trigger was the red mortar team!!! Sneaky Greg managed to re-capture Beslan with a Mi-8 and a mortar team!!! So the moral of this story is: 1. When going for a capture of an airbase, do bring as many troops as you can and a good mix of them - they need to survive holding the capture until the base starts repairing. 2. Be very careful to land & refuel at a base that you just captured - it is defenseless and too close to the frontline. S!
