  1. not quite... Fixed works according to the extend schedule from the manual posted above by diditopgun: From the stick time I have so far on this brilliant module I have come to the following conclusions on how to best use the flap switch: AUTO: only during take offs and landing UP: as soon as I am combat ready! SPEED = LIFE! FXD: only to get that slight edge in the turn when you are committed against an adversary, and also when maneuvering close to the ground to reduce AoA needed for avoiding the ground when energy is low. Beware of staying in AUTO and getting into a dogfight! those big flaps will come down and bleed you out of energy before you complete even one circle... S!
  2. typically... tanks and trucks would use diesel WW2 fighters would use 100-150 octane benzine and all airplanes and helicopters with jet engines use Jet A / Jet A-1 / JP-4 / JP-5 / JP-8 kerosene hope this helps
  3. I just noticed the F-14A is missing in the 1979 (F-14A) and 1985 (F-14A+) eras.
  4. Good poll! voted 1985.
  5. Greg its time to raise the bar! For Round 9 I suggest F10 Map self view set to OFF :D S!
  6. I really didn't want to get into this... but since you directed your reply to me... The absence of gimbal limits causing loss of lock and tracking allows you to launch within boresight and then immediately crank 180 degrees and run while still maintaining lock and guidance for the Super 530D missile. So this bug gives the Super 530D the ability of a "Super AIM-120D AMRAAM" in terms of guidance. Even better then fire & forget. I won't post about this any more because I would rather not add to a possible flame war. I've been learning the Mirage these past few days. I will however continue flying the Mirage but will definitely play fair and not abuse this radar bug. S!
  7. Just temporarily take away the Super 530 missiles until the update for the STT gimbal limits fix for the M2K is published.
  8. The F-4 pilot writes: It would be nice if we had a visual cue on the HUD that showed the pilot where the missile seeker is looking when uncaged, but I'm afraid you'll have to wait until MPC hands you the keys to an F-15 or F-16 with AIM-9Ls before you have that luxury. The things we take for granted!!! hmmm..... :smoke: Briliant article, thank you for sharing IvanK! S!
  9. interesting! what type of surface is simulated for the area that you have outlined as the runway? what are the dimensions? cheers!
  10. Stop ;) It is just compressed air. Here is what a typical airstart unit looks like: and here is a combined unit that is both airstart and gpu: Its just a big diesel engine sitting on a cart with a hose to push air, typically between 150 to 200 ppm for military engines (turbojets). You connect the hose to the airplane at the proper place, start the big diesel engine and apply air. The whole engine assembly starts turning over including all the stages. Then you would typically press the start switch before moving the throttle from cutoff to idle, as the start switch would typically launch an ignition process that is usually controlled by an electronic device responsible for the way the igniter will behave during the engine start. Moving the throttle from "OFF" to "IDLE" introduces the fuel into the start process. Cheers!
  11. It could be that you will already be in a zero G state a tad before the AoA is low enough for the CADC to send the "UP" command to the surfaces. Its well worth testing the reaction time of the CADC. S!
  12. I would keep the "UP" position handy for the extreme situation where you're in a low energy state and you need to do a quick zero g unload to gain energy as quickly as possible. You'll want to have the flaps and slats up, not interfering with the airflow creating unnecessary drag. You will lose bit more altitude during the zero g unload but you should accelerate faster.
  13. sarcasm mode on... While we're at it why not give F-5 Python 4 and Derby missiles? and the better radar? sarcasm mode off...

    Spotting

The F-5 is bigger then the P-51 and can not do a disappearing act more then the mustang. At exactly 17:30 he says "fighting against F-5s that at 5 miles nose on are very difficult to see" NOSE ON big difference!
  15. Just wanted to drop a note of praise for Belsimtek's implementation of the Aileron Spring Stops in the flight control stick of the F-5E. I am using a MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick and the implementation is simply brilliant! It feels very realistic, at approximately 60% of each half of the roll axis you encounter the feeling of reaching the spring stops (a detent of sorts) and then the requirement for more lateral force on the stick to go past them and hold the stick in place is simply amazing!! I am familiar with the dynamic changes in the strength of the return to center (greater airflow = increased force and vice versa) but I had no idea it was possible to model 2 forces on the same half axis! This is the first force feedback using flight sim that I have ever encountered this! Thank you Blesimtek!! you guys are geniuses!!! :smartass: :joystick:  I am very happy for pre-purchasing this module and hope to continue to do so for all Belsimtek future modules :D Salute!
  16. All of the regulars from the Israeli community have installed and been actively using SRS in our sorties. Thank you very much for this brilliant comms tool! its working flawless and we are enjoying every moment with it! We are ready for the official launch of round 8! Salute!
  17. and most likely after the drop needs to be driven a bit by a CA player to a location that will give a good LOS on the enemy units as the heli can only get so close before getting shot at... the BlueFlag concept is success that relies heavily on team play and cooperation between people flying on the same side.
  18. I just watched the video in total amazement. This is one step closer to an auto-generating ATO (Air Tasking Order) in a persistent world à la Falcon BMS dynamic campaign engine. This has some amazing potential to create a dynamic environment that generates missions for a predefined number of airplanes sitting at an airbase. Thank you for this!
  19. I will definitely be there!
  20. No, real life pilots are mostly just pilots who fly by the seat of their pants, i.e experience the flight model of the real airplane through what comes natural to them G forces, inner ear fluid movement, sounds, smell, shuddering / vibrations / shaking of airframe and stick.. etc hence it being called "the seat of their pants". Put them in front of a flight simulator running on a 20 something inch screen and devoid of all the sensory inputs I wrote above you will find their telling if a DCS Module flies like the real thing or not is as subjective to any individual if they did or did not experience "suspension of disbelief". Thats why you'll find as far back as 1990 something statements from real world pilots that "Hellcat Ace" on Commodore 64 also "flies like the real thing" So system modelling aside which I think you guys are doing a great job, and being a pilot myself I prefer the seal of approval of engineers like Yo-Yo who have been designing and refining flight models running on PCs for many years to tell me if "it flies like the real thing". The L-39 flight model is a shining example of "getting it done right". S!
  21. Hey! Xcom and I and about 90% of the IAF come from IL2 Sturmovik! We loved the "full switch" realism servers with no self icon on map, and pretty much flew only in those. To this day we still have a few IAF members (including myself) who enjoy flying the "SEOW" dynamic campaign on Sundays. We just finished recently a "Battle of the Coral Sea" campaign and the next one coming up in September will be the "Battle of Midway". Full realism offcourse. I have been flying with Xcom since 1999, way back since Warbirds 2.73, then Aces High, then we played a bit WWIIOL, then settled for a good 7 years in IL2 up until 2013 when we started flying DCS. You should see what he can do in IL2 with a Spitfire Mk.IX.... He has a special move we call in Hebrew "The Naknekan". I am afraid to translate to English as it will probably violate the profanity rules of ED's forum ;) He will never teach us how to do it... One can only hope he will not discover how to do it with ED's flight model. S!
  22. Honestly ever since the update that improved visibility of smoke and burner glow that you can now see for quite a far distance I would just leave it as is. It would however be relevant for the WW2 variant of BlueFlag, as the smaller machines are harder to visually spot. S!
  23. +1 Exactly the same experience here. Also using MSFF2 stick. S!
  24. Thanks for the update Xcom. Looking forward to the Korea variance of Blue Flag. As always, we are available to assist / test anytime you may need. S!
