What's the released version? Just read this, "Please use the auto updater to update your existing DCS World installation. If you will be installing DCS World for the first time, please go to: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.co.../world/stable/." I just read not too use the auto updater. What is what...

Ciclidfan, Thanks. IYHO would you say installing any of those, or all of those in lets say, DCS World 1.5.3, or 2.0.1, would run without crashes or spending hours trying to debug the installation? Also I read that ED has combined 1.5.3 and 2.0.1. Does that mean there is only one platform...errr I mean one DCS World now and not the three that were available? And does this latest DCS World version have the latest EDGE graphics engine with the promised SLI support? Interesting that the modules you mentioned with the exception of the Mustang were available and sold as box versions (Lockon) many years ago. I have purchased all the new modules except for trainers and scratch my head wondering why I purchased unfinished software? I would have never in the past, purchased any software that was stated as incomplete as in unfinished. The labeling and semantics now describing software is almost beyond comprehension. I can understand purchasing software which will have features and probably a few fixes added later after its release but one expects that software will run, I mean you pay full price....I think its almost like gaming software is kick-starter funded except for console games. Thanks. Lazz

SD Impressive amount of information...thanks for that. However, many of my questions still remain. Laz

Where can I find a list of the modules and DCS titles that are ( and here is where it gets confusing) out of beta, or released, or finished but will/may still get additional features and or will/may get upgrades and repairs. PLEASE, Read the entire post. Currently there seems to be a problem with 1.5.3 and I thought that this was a stable version? Which versions are considered stable and also which 3rd party titles are stable and with what version of DCS 1.5.xxxxx or 2.0.xxx or beta (?) 1.5 or what, I cannot keep up with what is what. I do not want to load anything on to a new computer that is considered beta or alpha or I cannot really determine the correct definition of these words when referring to DCS and the modules and the 3rd party. In the e-shop they are listed as "download beta version" and requires DCS 1.5 or 2.0 or they are listed as "download version" like the new released L-39 Albatros which is listed as ,"out of beta". Does all this mean that unless the module/title is "out of beta" then you will encounter major bugs and problems as these are incomplete and are still in development? I also notice that 2.0xx and 1.5xxx are now combined so what are the releases of DCS? What version or what number or what??? should be downloaded to be compatibly with the modules I have purchased? I thought 1.5 was a beta or pre beta? So if these are not "out of beta" then how can any of the other modules work with either of these DCS titles? I have also noticed that most of my modules are listed as download beta version. So they are incomplete and should be considered unfinished and with bugs? Is 2.0.1 or is it 2.0.2, out of beta? I am loading up a new computer and only want the (Here I still do not know what to call these modules) " Out of Beta" types or almost done or finished or will have future upgrades/repairs and what does upgrades mean? How about feature upgrades or bug fixes, what are they called?:cry::helpsmilie: :D:thumbup: When will DCS World, which is the bottom foundation, and will/should have the "out of beta" EDGE engine which should have support for SLI and be "the Out Of Beta" released version become available(?).....but will have significant upgrades/features and still remain compatible with 3rd party developments. Thanks for your thoughtful answers. Laz

I cannot find the ED store where I have purchased all my modules. The new store does not have my information and all the activation numbers and purchases I have made....where is it? And how do I get to it. Clicking on the large DCS logo at the top of the page gets me to a different store...not the same as the one I am used to....cannot remember how to get too it. Help. :D Thanks, Laz

I do not understand why ED is updating 1.5? Unless they are using it as a test bed before tying it to the NTTR map. Would it not be less work to just update 2.0 and forget about 1.5 at this stage? The only difference as I have read here is the NTTR map. If ED is using 1.5 as a test bed perhaps they use it to integrate new maps and other projects like 3rd party software into DCS?? But why do that when it could be just for internal testing?? Seems like no one will want 1.5 once 2.0xxx is a final release. Also it may be that ED will only bundle the new maps separately and not have the maps linked together...at least at this stage. It would be difficult to link the European and NTTR and current map together. Just guessing. What do you guys think?

IS there any support in 1.5 or 2.0 for SLI? I have read that ED was/is supporting SLI and stated their intention to do such. I do not know what programming needs to be done for a game to have SLI support. There has been finger pointing at the video card drivers. Motherboard developers make a big deal of having dual video card support...even triple card support...so what does it take to be able to use two video cards in SLI or Crossfire in DCS games/sim? Is it the game, or is it the driver, or is it the video card or is it the motherboard compatibility with the game? What about VR? How about 4K monitors...or having 2 or 3, 4k monitors. And a few additional small touch screens? If you need two video cards to run several video displays, shouldn't they be in SLI/Crossfire? Say 2 980TI's are needed to run your video setup. Will DCS games take advantage of both cards? Since they will be in SLI? Does 2.0 with NTR take advantage of this kind of setup? I purchased 2 780's in anticipation 2 years ago just for DCS. They are gathering dust. Thought about up-grading to 980's but since supposedly new video cards will be out in several months and I do not know if DCS will/is, taking advantage of duel cards I am still in a quandary. I am going to wait.

I spent the last 3 months of my Navel career on the USS HORNET CVS-12. It is now a museum display in Alameda California. Got out in 1966. Visited the old ship 2 years ago..funny how your perception changes. I remember the bridge, think it was the 0-3 level and remembering it too be much larger. The inertial navigation plot table as I also remember was actually small compared to what I remember. I found my initials I had scratched underneath the air search radar repeater. LOL Prior to this I spent 2 years in Vietnam. Carrier time is very interesting. At this time the Hornet was part of an anti-submarine warfare group. We also picked up the Apollo space capsule.
-
What aircraft can we use on these carriers when these carrier upgrades are released? Which aircraft will be able to take advantage of all the equipment and landing/takeoff catapults/arresting gear? What aircraft currently can use the aircraft carriers we have now?

Skylake has a bug that was just announced by Intel. Not sure what the fix will be.

Come on ED, after you get the released version of 2.0 out, please start developing FC type aircraft.....I for one will purchase everyone you or your partners produce.
-
Yes, to all, and thanks for your opinions. My question was focused on getting more combat planes centered on the upcoming maps having the era type consistent with that time and place......without waiting years for one or two type being developed. As mentioned, having DCS full fidelity type aircraft is one of the draws that some are interested in. I enjoy them also. However I can also see a selection of aircraft that we all would like developed. But to really achieve that would take years. Look how long its taken for several of the aircraft we now enjoy. After flying the same several type aircraft we have now over the same terrain gets rather old. Thanks to the mods from folks keeps it interesting to a fair degree. But wouldn't it be great to have the maps and aircraft for the many theaters that we all want.....Vietnam, Korea, South Pacific, Mideast, Atlantic.... With the current development time stretching into decades for these packages to come to fruition .....I was just thinking along with having superDCS types we could enjoy FC types sooner.....much sooner and I really do not think doing FC type aircraft will slow down any development on the DCS type. I believe this would bring in more users to DCS. Developers would make funds sooner and that would develop more avenues.....maps etc. That is why I asked how many would support more FC type aircraft. Perhaps ED would see it too their advantage with a number of supporters that would make economic sense for them to pursue this development venture. And yes I did mean FC3. Your thoughts??? Lazduc

How many of you would like to have more Flaming Cliffs type aircraft done to the level of Flaming Cliffs 2? I ask this due to the long production time of aircraft for DCS. :( I think ED and the other developers could deliver many of the aircraft we would like to have in much less time than it takes now. Developed for FC would not take the current development cycle of 2+ years. I enjoy the FC developed type aircraft as much as the newer developed ones. :D Laz :smilewink:

Gadroc, Where do you find the 400hz 115v power supply? The only ones I have found are over $1000.00. I have an attitude and direction indicator from a F-4. Do you have any schematics for a 400hz supply. Any information or possible voltage/current/hz to power this type indicator would be most welcome. Thanks, Laz

What are the chances we will see a B-17 DLC some day?
lazduc replied to oscar19681's topic in DCS: WWII Assets Pack
Echo, You missed my point completely. Yes if you knew that it took 25 or so button presses to start and the FC type had a single start button, hopefully most would realize that it is not the complete and accurate start up procedure for that type aircraft or for that matter I have to assume that in a WW1 early bi-plane and looking for the start button would be ahhh I don't know....sitting in the cockpit with someone pulling on the propeller might give a hint something may be questionable. Point is spending 5 or so minutes starting a simulator aircraft may, spin your prop, but it necessarily does not do that for others. I, as I mentioned, do not need that level of accuracy in those redundant procedures to enjoy a flight in an aircraft that is modeled with the FC level. It takes much longer to program a 100% accurate,( again with reference to the programmer ability and knowledge,) aircraft than one of the FC types. So, I say I, instead of waiting, and again as I have previously mentioned I cannot wait years for long periods of development being 75 years old, welcome aircraft that may not have the three thousand one hundred and sixty two rivets and twenty four startup functions to have FUN flying these simulators. By the way, not that it is really important, I was a pilot until I lost my medical...eyesight problems. -

ED could make many FC type aircraft and like the FC (Lock-On) types we all ready have, upgrade them to what is deemed appropriate. I for one appreciate a good flight model but I also enjoy many aircraft that are not modeled to an exact representation of the real item. Arguing about flight characteristics without actually flown except in simulation is accepting the author's coding of what he thinks represents as close to what actual flight is like. If he has flown the real thing....all the better. Having 300 hours in a simulator gets you 300hours of exactly that. Very well versed in that particular sim.....but that sim is again what the programmer's knowledge dictates of representative of flight and systems in that sim. Climbing into the real thing will snap you into reality real fast. So, imho, I would enjoy a FC (Lock-On) type B-17 or any other aircraft ED or their partners can produce. I would think that we could get most of those aircraft that everyone wants sooner, much sooner than waiting years for a super close representation of said aircraft. And then waiting more years for the era maps and aircraft that would match. You may only want exact renditions but like I mentioned you would probably not begin to tell the difference without flying the real thing. Your mileage may differ. Imho. -
Yep, couldn't pass this up .......and I said I would not purchase a trainer....

I downloaded Tacview Pro and got the same warning.....don't know any more....anyone else???

Thanks for the information....

Do any of you guys have any info on the upcoming gpu's and cpu's ? Errr, I am 75 years old....so I do not have a lot of time to wait LOL and I will probably not see what some of you will in 15 or so years. When I was about 40 or so I remember seeing something about Su-27 Flanker. We waited for Flanker 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5. So if you are around 35-40 now you will turn around sooner than you may think and hope that the next release will be before they fly the missing man formation for you LOL.

Thanks for the responses. I was in Costco and really like the 4k systems. So I do want video cards that can drive 4k. Reading about all the trouble with sli systems I am leaning towards a single card. I have built several systems with sli and found very few software titles that really take advantage of sli. Your thoughts on this: 6700k processor, 16gb, 1kw power, water cooled cpu, Asus Maximus viii extreme 3d-3 motherboard, evga 980ti, 2x 480gb ssd, 50in 4k monitor, (add another 980ti if needed) another mb choice is the Asus z-170 deluxe. Or wait for newer gpu's and Edge 2.0. Maybe 2.0 will support dx12...... I also read now that sli systems introduce studdering and artifacts, even the latest cards. Hopefully this sli problem will be fixed...or maybe a single card will be released that will address the 4k standard.

Titan X has 12gb ram...can DCS use this? The Titan X has one gpu. This means that shudders and such should not be an issue. Sli is not optimized in DCS. SLI support was supposed to be in 2.0 now currently called 1.5. SLI seems to introduce sutters due to either DCS or Nvidia drivers not being optimized. Some have said SLI is currently offering better performance, but not identifying what is better? Those of you that have an SLI ( 2x 980-ti's or Titan X or 2x Titan X's ) setup, what have you found with the current version of Edge? Is your monitor 4K? (Titan Z is a dual gpu card like a SLI setup....therefore only uses 6gb out of their 12gb (unless some software enables that configuration). This SLI in effect, introduces the studders and artifacts as it is a SLI type device on one card.) This card is not on my list and is eliminated as 2x 980TI's are less money than one Titan Z. I have obtained information on a number of forums: What, in your opinion would be best: 1x Titan X or 2x 980-TI's ? When do you think DCS will actually be ready to support SLI? Is Nvidia or ED responsible for this? Laz :D
