Flaming Cliffs 3 = DCS bait and switch ?
pacotito replied to CodeToad's topic in Payment and Activation
It is a dcs world module and integrates into the sim. However due to licensing and ubisoft owning the lockon brand they require that lockon be installed as flaming cliffs is technically an addon to lock on. -

If your in the US you can purchase a digital copy from ubisoft. Gamefly also has it for free for members(not sure of fc3 will install on the gamefly version though) -

Yes unfortunately you do need lock on as ubisoft owns the rights. I've never clicked the purchase icons from the sim so im not sure if it just takes you to the store...but directly from the fc3 description in the estore. "Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 3 will require an installation of Lock On: Modern Air Combat or previous version Flaming Cliffs" -
1.2.4... Auto Updt or install from scratch?
pacotito replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
While the screen can only display one portion of the world it still has to calculate everything that isn't visible on screen. So while Iracing calculates the physics for say 24 cars dcs is calculating the physics of 24 aircraft/other plus 500 projectile trajectories plus wind ect ect. Which is the reason dcs is more CPU bound. Its more number crunching than being "pretty". -
Solid stereo headphones for DOLBY HEADPHONE circa $50
pacotito replied to Bucic's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There are quite a few true 5.1/7.1 headsets. From the reviews I've read on the tiamat 7.1 the positional sound is better than Dolby headphone but the sound quality is lower than a normal set of cans due to smaller drivers. http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-audio/razer-tiamat-71 -
xonar essence stx or Soundblaster Titanium HD
pacotito replied to Cowboy10uk's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've also heard very bad reviews of the core3d. With windows vista Microsoft removed the DirectSound Hal so since vista all sound is done in software anyways. With the exception of openal which most developers don't use. Creative alchemy does a pretty good job from my experience to convert direct sound to openal to restore hardware acceleration. I picked up a refurbished xfi titanium with a free extended warranty for $50 from newegg. -
If its am OEM copy it is linked to the Mb. Retail can activate on a new build. At some point you may need to call Microsoft to reactivate.

Depending on how long the film is I think character development can be important. If its 20 mins just get to the action. An hour or longer I would like to get to know the characters. Longer films/movies are always better if you know the characters.

If you're itching to get a new machine then ivy will do just fine. Yes haswell will be out soon but I(just my personal choice...probably due to having 5 of the original Xbox 360 rrod) am hesitant to buy the first few batches. The only reason I wish I would have waited for ivy would be pcie3. Early estimates say 10-15% performance increase with haswell but a new architecture can always have problems at the start. As for the AMD vs Intel discussion I went from a 1090t to a 2500k and for dcs Intel crushes AMD. Granted for the average gamer who plays fps they probably won't notice as those are you bound

Lcd and led tvs are basically the same both use LCD to display color. The only difference is LCDs use a fluorescent lamp for backlight and leds use leds for backlight. So other than energy efficiency and maybe backlight life they are the same.

I'm pretty sure it is a 64bit app although in not 100% sure. I could be wrong. Ha ha sniped. Well there is the official response.

I wouldn't plan on a fix other than the ones already mentioned in the forums. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1084420&postcount=8 They are going to 64bit only in the near future. I think if you have win7 you can download the 64bit version and use the same windows serial.

I would recommend ME3. The ME series is one of the few games I felt I got my money for. Just make sure you pickup 1+2 while youre at it. Back on topic...at least they have done something about the situation. They could have pulled a ubi and ignored the problem. Or blame it on your PC. Maybe issue patch after patch that breaks more than it fixes while telling you to email support with bugs(who then blames it on your PC). Instead they saw a problem and came up with a reasonable solution. Probably not reasonable in everyones eyes.

The steam version is an outdated version prior to the module system of dcs world.

The easiest test for cpu/gpu bottleneck would be to compare fps between high and low graphics options with the same mission(a track would be better). If there is not much change its a CPU bottleneck. Also check you nvidia control panel and make sure your not forcing aa.

ha ha I just figured with my program files(x86) directory. Remember the days of making boot disks to free enough of the 640k memory to run games one would assume with r+d AMD knew about the deal with Sony at least a couple years and developed the apu for them and saw an opportunity in the PC market. "jaguar" is what Sony is using. Didn't verify the architecture other than "mobile" pc.
-
Intel included...it was either a smart move by AMD or luck but putting PC processors into the dominating console market is a great way to ensure PC sucess. They are 64bit(although they keep calling them x86 and I though x86 was 32bit) mobile pc processors. Although behind current a PC 8 core 1.8ghz along with a HD 7000m. With all the ports(95% of PC games) anything is possible

With the ps4 and rumor has it the next Xbox using amd apus are they making a comeback in the PC world? Since most games are ported over you could assume most pc games will now be optimized for amd processors. I see it as a good time for PC gaming. Since they are using readily available PC parts we may actually see some properly optimized games for the PC. Easy to port since the code will be basically the same. Maybe we will see madden back on PC.

I would agree with a sensible overclock. Unfortunately the auto overclock is usually not a sensible overclock. They are trying to get every CPU at a certain GHz. All CPUs are different. So in order to get the worst CPUs to 4.4ghz they figure it takes 1.4v. That's .15v over what mine actually needed. Not to mention the overclocking "experts" recommend 1.35v max for a 24/7 overclock. Heat destroys electronics. Higher voltage means higher heat. Higher heat means shorter life. I'm just trying to say that the ease of auto overclock is usually outweighed by the inherent risk. Take the time and do it manually.

Some good news for those of you that had to put up with the launch of SimCity. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2416413,00.asp

Cl9 will do the job. According to an article I read last year(which I can't seem to find) for gaming a low latency(cl7) 1600 ram was the sweet spot with price/performance. However in the gaming tests the differences were so low that the average person wouldn't notice. So its just a matter of budget. As for the video editing a higher speed ram 2400 would definitely outperform a slower speed. As for the ssd I'm partial to Intel. No issues with the one I have and they have always been at or near the top in customer reviews. They are a bit more expensive than other brands.

Nobody is saying it doesn't work. Most people don't use the auto overclock due to it usually setting the voltages way too high. My board for example set CPU voltage at 1.4v for 4.4ghz. In the south Texas winters I run 4.8ghz at 1.35v. In the summer i bump it down at 4.6ghz at 1.3v. At 4.4ghz I was stable at around 1.26v. Long story short an auto overclock will increase wear and tear along with shortening lifespan.

Isnt part of the online requirement due to alot of the simulation being done on the server? If that's the case would this game be able to be cracked?
