  1. To celebrate my return to DCS with DCS World. Here is a simple video of the SU25T. From flying the A10c and Black Shark 1, some four years ago, the sim never fails to get better!! Good luck to ED and thanks! Best Regards David
  2. Are Beta releases worth getting? I would say definitely yes, from DCS. As has been said, other simulation software makers release so called finished versions, only to be "beta tested" by us folks who buy their "finished versions". You are left with the unknown factor of if the bugs, we find, will ever be addressed? With the DCS Betas, they are under development and we can be more certain there is a finished version as the goal. Also we are demonstrating support to the devs. And the "Do you want it" factor is real as well. I for one would like a European theatre........ Cheers David
  3. Thanks guys. I found an English SU 25T Cockpit for DCS World by Devrim and incorporated into a weathered blue and green cockpit by Lilkiki. Its got 6DOF and looks rather good. No pilot included but perhaps they will do one later. Cheers!
  4. I recently saw a series of videos by this guy:- He is using an Su 25 with a pilot body and some differences to the cockpit. Does anyone know where (if) there are any downloads for this cockpit? The video maker, Mr Sogomonion, states that he is using an older SU 25 version and that the latest version is missing the pilot and some cockpit dials in English! Also, the free SU 25 that comes with DCS World is a real beauty! A great way to introduce folks to DCS. I have purchased most of the DCS World modules and re downloaded loaded my faithful Hog! However, is there any difference with the SU 25 in the DCS World version to the SU 25 that is available for purchase on the E-Shop? I uploaded some A10c missions three years ago (under my other name "Herky". The "Tempus Fugit" rescue mission will not load or run in DCS World. I have tried to edit the mission but after many hours can not get it to run in DCS World. So that's one I will have to re do for DCS World? Unless someone has any idea what's not compatible? Now apart from the need to purchase a new HOTAS combat stick I am back in action...Almost:joystick: Best regards, and thanks to ED for all the work to keep us flying great combat sims!:) David
  5. I just came back to DCS (from 2011, Hog and Black shark) and obviously started again with DCS World. Have nearly all the sim aircraft installed now, but the Su25T that comes with DCS World is a real treat to fly! The Su25T, although a non clickable cockpit, is an excellent simulation and will be interesting to compare it to the Hog! (Can it do the job?:smilewink:) On the joystick layout, its a must to program a good HOTAS set up since you don't have any mouse clicks. On the subject of video tutorials this chap, Robert Sogomonium, has some great videos, worth a sub and a good look! Now its back to the manuals and tutorials...Ever tried to fly the Hog after a 3 year layoff?
  6. I was also confused to see only my overall stats are logged! All separate aircraft models are at zero. This would be a good fix for the near future, hopefully! Cheers
  7. Many thanks for these manuals. Its what makes these simulations just that, simulations. Just like the A10C and the KA50, the need to study and practise flying and fighting the aircraft is the reward! Best regards David
  8. I don't know anything about DCS 2.0, but after being away from the A10c and the KA50, for a while I am struggling back on board and they never cease to amaze me at the detail and accuracy of the simulations. The Sabre and Fishbed were an eye opener and attracted me back. Now the promise of a WW2 theatre and the WW2 aircraft are a real drew for me. We have lacked a WW2 simulation for ages.....Microsoft I think were the last to do one? The fact that you have to remain "current" on type is a testament to how good these simulations are. I don't think anyone will surpass the A10c, it was a military simulation project initially I understand and it certainly shows!:) So I will no doubt try and buy all the new sim offerings (keeping "she who must be obeyed" away from the purchases!) and spend hours, days and weeks honing flying and fighting skills. The satisfaction of becoming a good/great combat pilot is one of the truly great pleasures left in the sim world. My best wishes to ED for the future and lets have those extra theatres!:pilotfly: Regards David
  9. That's great news. I suppose the new download places the "module" in the DCS World program automatically after the install asks for an install location? Which would be "DCS World"? The aircraft would then appear in the aircraft available in DCS World? Obviously haven't done this yet, will do when I have the time and can drag myself away from the mundane real world.:) I appreciate the "DCS World" scenery at the moment is the same as the scenery map in the A10c and KA50, but will soon be enhanced by the addition of extra theatres. I, for one, am looking forward to these. Flying these and the new DCS aircraft in Europe/Korea will be very interesting.......:D Cheers David
  10. Thank you. I thought as much re Black Shark. I have a CD version of the original sim so I suppose I could download the upgrade version (BS2) and use that? The DCS World looks very interesting. I am looking forward to the addition of extra scenery areas and the eventual ability to fly in any historical period from WW2 through Korea to modern day, with appropriate AI. Really is excellent, exciting stuff and I intend to support it. :) Regards David
  11. Hi all, been away for a while but now back in action! I just downloaded DCS World and am very impressed.:D Question is, I have the A10C v1.1.1.1 and Black Shark v1. ( Had them since 2011) How can I integrate these programs with DCS World? Do I have to purchase the new versions as "modules" and then they integrate with DCS World, or is there another way to integrate the original products? Thanks Best Regards David. PS. Was pleased to see a few folks have downloaded the three A10 missions I uploaded to the mission library, 3 years ago! Under my other handle "Herky". :)
  12. Just thought I'd post this up. Its an early video, nothing like the latest version of BS. I did it ages ago. However it demonstrates what a superb sim this is. If you use air assets to deploy illumination flares, you can fly and kill at night in the Kamov. Who needs FLIR?:music_whistling:
  13. Hi, these are complex questions. Firstly it depends upon MultiPlayer or SinglePlayer? In MP how good are your comrades? If SP how many wingmen? Also what the enemy has that can threaten your ship? Also what the primary target is? Whats the weather...wind and visibility? Your main weapon, the Vikhr, is a lazer guided, transonic missile. It flies supersonic then slows right down in the terminal stages. It also requires you to keep the Kamov's lazer on the target, so the Vikhr can fly down the lazer's "tube". Recall that the Vikhr has sensors on the rear of the missile that look for the "cone" of the lazer from your helicopter. Hence, weather and lighting, which will affect the Vikhr's performance. A crosswind will seriously degrade your effective range. Therefore there is no simple answer. Its also in the way you fly in combat, either by the way you have been trained or the way you have learned by experience. I always fly the Kamov low and shoot and scoot between cover. Pop up, sight, mark and datalink the targets for my wingmen, drop down, command an attack from the wingmen, pop up when they begin their attack and open fire with my Vikhr's. The enemy will then have two, three or four targets to contend with. Then, if all is going well, close to contact with the Cannon, which has a good range ( for a gun!) and go to work with short bursts on any targets that remain alive. Keep the wingmen on the offensive also. Always engage enemy AAA and SHORAD first (if you have the time), thats where good recon comes in. So always use the wingmen in recce mode. Send them out into areas you designate, where you think there may be enemy. Usually they will report them back to you, recieve them and mark them on your ABRIS. The AI wingies may engage the enemy, on their own initiative ( well, giving the AI pilots a break:D ) and this may give you the "Go" to scoot forward whilst they are attacking. So multiple choices of attack. Of course the terrain is also a big factor. If there is no cover for for you. Your choices are limited. But the same sort of method applies. Recon, mark, datalink, attack with extreme prejudice! Hit hard, hit fast, get out. Still the best sim:D
  14. The R73 Archer has a range of 20 KM. Thats the "early" variant "A". The latest R73M, has a range of 40 KM. Aimed by the Helmet, but its apparently esy to shoot! If you would like to kill that A10 before he tries to kill you with his arrogant LGB attack.....Just Archer him:D прибывающий стрелец http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/missile/row/aa-11.htm
  15. To just say a word about the OP question.... I know this was addressed a while ago and I dont want to impune anyone's work. Black Shark is (IMHO) the definitive helo battlefield sim. ( I have U Tube vids to prove my affection:thumbup:) However......In the RW the KA 50 appears to have the capability to carry AAM's. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/row/ka-50.htm and http://www.aviastar.org/helicopters_eng/ka-50.php http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/missile/row/aa-11.htm The latter link clearly states the KA 50 and KA 52 as platforms for the Archer. "Developed by the Vympel state-sector engineering and design bureau, the R-7EE is designed for close-quarters aerial combat. Vympel specialists have developed a way of ensuring that the missile system can be fitted to virtually any type of aircraft. It can be fitted to older aircraft, which feature heavily in third-world countries' air forces. " Platforms"Su-27, Su-33, Su-34, Su-35, Su-37, MiG-29, MiG-31, MiG-33, Yak-141, Ka-50, Ka-52" Note, there are mentions of both the Igla (not so good) and the AA-11 Archer ( extreemly good:thumbup: ) AAM's. Now, if you would like to put a stop to any troublesome Hog drivers, I would ask that a little consideration be given to a patch providing the additional aforementioned AAM's? Please.....:music_whistling: Cheers
  16. You could give this a try...Many flares..he is about to get captured if you dont rescue him.... http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/141724/ Be mindful of some extra SHORAD...:music_whistling: Cheers.
  17. Hmmm.. It will be a superb simulation of a ww2 era aircraft, of that I have little doubt, based purely on my observations of BS and a10. To be flown not in a specific time period or theatre and perhaps not with WW2 era counterparts? Now dont take this opinion the wrong way, but I think that sounds like an FSX aircraft? Perhaps I am wrong in my desire for a simulation that suspends disbelief? BS is Russian, the theatre was believable, the deployment plausible. The sim even had me thinking I was Russian. That's good immersion, good suspension of disbelief, well speaking personally. So my thoughts are that if I fly the Mustang in the BS/a10 geographic area, without any time context then I am simulating flight in a WW2 aircraft and not much else? Appologies here, perhaps I am missing the point? Cheers.
  18. Absolutely...:yay: The essence ( IMHO) is immersion. It does not take much. Some personalised speech. Like the chat in Deployment. Just what you would do...well some of us anyway! Small nuances like that are enhancement factors. In a simulation I require the " suspension of disbelief". A war scenario with different ways to win and loose. Some "dice roll" branches in the code and that adds the "go back to it" factor. What happened to that concept in the later campaigns...?
  19. As I look forward to any new release from ED. Knowing that the fidelity will be there and it will be worth the cash. I couldnt help look in my old Sim/game box. I then was wondering....... I appologise if this has been answered, but its central for my future happiness with the sim. Will P51-D have Europe to fly over and will it have AI from the WW 2 era? I Remember happy days with this, ahh memories..................:prop: Cheers.
  20. +1 with Rusty. IMHO, flying the Black Shark, in battle you are Army. You are close to the enemy, you can fight him as you can see him. Its more personal taste, but there is more immersion. ( again its subjective, so its IMHO) The sim is more satisfying, as someone mentioned, I find it elegant in its challenge to fly and fight well. Lack of 21st century avionics means you have to be creative. The first campaign in the BS is my personal favourite. Its totally immersive. There arnt many? http://youtu.be/lUHNKaQPp2I Flying the a10, in battle, you are Air Force. In later wars the a10 could not be used as intended. The guys ended up dropping ordinance, ( LGB's included) from 15,000', to avoid SHORAD stuff. The same in the sim. Fly down low and watch your arse get fragged. The sim is a complete a10. Its pit switchology is spot on. I find it less interesting to fly than the Shark. Maybe I am just an old Marine at heart?:music_whistling: Wish list.....The AH-64, with Iraq and Afgan theatres. Or.........Go for broke the JSF with the full monty..Distributed Aperture System...VSTOL, naval versions, modern scenario...ie Brits defending the Falklands with the new carrier...or the US v's Iran in the Gulf??:D Oh and a dynamic campaign system please....Price? You name it, I'll buy it.
  21. Rockets are perfect for supression, to get enemy heads down. Not to mention taking off a few! Or for marking targets, or for illuminating targets, at night!!:D. My Night Fight Vid:- http://youtu.be/lUHNKaQPp2I And the practice weps vid with a mighty full salvo rocket launch!;- http://youtu.be/2gK76g1rrP0 As for use. I prefer to fire medium to full load bursts!:D If you have a look at a track, in external view, with a full load salvo, they look very impressive. Imagine being on the receiving end!!:music_whistling: But it would be nice sometimes to just carry all Vikhrs?
  22. I leave NWS on. With "small" pedal corrections as you accelerate to V1, you should not stress the nosewheel to the point where it departs the aircraft! With a full ordinance load I slowly rotate at 120 KIAS. Any RW Hog drivers out there? Does any other military jet disconnect NWS during acceleration to V1?
  23. Thanks Wags. These are superb sims and the mission Editor just makes them excellent and provides longevity. If you get bored with one mission, edit it and just add whatever you want! The editor allows you to temper the sim to your own abilities. =Satisfying flying!!:D
  24. There's an interesting post on the A10 side, re wind and the ability to input the winds parameters for iron "dumb" bombs. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=66422 It doesn't help us in the Black Shark.:joystick: 12 m/s is challenging. Its over the service limit for take off and landing, crosswind and tail wind. (10 m/s). The Vikhr has a supersonic speed ( initially) 650 m/s or 2100 fps. If you keep the range low, say, 4 kilometers ( 4 seconds flight for a Vikhr) and keep the Skhval on the target, it should spiral its way along the beam and hit. With a strong wind ( remember we have gusts as well in RW, to contend with) I would ripple fire a couple. Russian's like to ripple fire their missiles!:music_whistling: In winds, you can see why this makes sense. Especially if you are attacking a SAM and need that hit. All weapons are affected by wind. I would position around the target, if there is time and fire as close to either downwind or up wind of the target as you can. I have not flown this campain. My favourite is still the Deployment campain. lots of Russian radio chat between the co pilot and you feel "there". I completed that with 29 missions flown, 139 Air to ground kills and 2 Air to air.:D Here's a simultaneous Double Vikhr attack at about 4 cliks. And a nice vid of our deadly Bird of Prey;-
