Red Tails Movie - Crazy ass cobra/upswing manouvre?!?!?
ErichVon replied to Aries's topic in Military and Aviation
Out of the book, "In Pursuit" by Johan Kylander that move looks like "The Sliceback" page 124 and 125 of my book. Page 93 here: http://pilotpress.wordpress.com/in-pursuit/ Free .pdf of the book. -
In Multiplayer, sometimes a 2nd guy may inadvertently jump into a plane that has already been taken. If the 1st guy is still in the startup position on the tarmac, in A-10C, I have seen planes explode. Primed too long? LOL! I flew a sortie tonight, in Single Player, landed, then crashed / died. I jumped into the other plane that was running on the tarmac, but blocked by a big plane. I clicked the key combination to jump into another aircraft and BOOM it exploded. In P-51 Multiplayer I have seen planes blow up on the tarmac and no enemies around.
-
I actually made my 1st Single Player mission using the "Marie" skin and after one sortie got the Air Medal for one aircraft kill and two ground targets, landed the P-51 intact. I tried to get repaired as I wanted to do another go, but that did not function. I kind of winged it, I am not real sure exactly how I made the mission I just experimented. I will read the GUI manual for the A-10C.

ACM Training Vids Tutorials a Possibility?
ErichVon replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
What I would like to see is interactive training. I have the books. Nothing beats actual interactive training between two players be it people or A.I. Yes, my other sim too has lots of videos. I don't have Rise of Flight. Thanks for the link. I might get Rise of Flight. LOL! -
How does P51 run (FPS/stutter) compared to A10 or Shark?
ErichVon replied to BTTW-DratsaB's topic in Bugs and Problems
Using TrackIR it is noticeably slower. So I do not use it. I mapped my hat views. I get about the same as the A-10C or the Ka-50. Slower with lots of trees and buildings around. I set my settings to medium, some stuff off, but my Visib Range is set to High. Lower resolution may increase frame rates. I run at my stock speed. -
I like the training video tutorials. Any chance of including more advanced Air Combat Maneuvers possibly somehow involving an opponent as to the basic moves, merge, then the more advanced moves like lead turn, defensive spiral, high and low yo-yo's, flat scissors and rolling scissors, sliceback, lag displacement roll, etc.? Sliceback is what some guys were discussing couple days ago as an impossible move as to The History Channel's video interpretation. I need the training, for sure. (Edited May 15, 2012): =============== What would be cool is to setup an A.I. opponent at various levels of skill to be setup in the mission editor and pre-set canned cycles to just train on one aspect of a certain maneuver me against the one A.I guy. Just a suggestion. I use to program NC tape lathes and a "canned cycle", for instance, is how we single point threaded; there that dates me.

In Single Player, One-on-One, A.I. is on my tail in seconds. I have to trim the plane and set the range and wingspan and get up to speed. I go for the deck. He will misjudge his escape curve and if you can get it just right he will plow into the ground, hill or building. I have not been able to get above him or behind him. Usually one burst from him is devastating taking a lot of internals down: Right Shift + ' Sucks when the reticule goes down, then guesstimate. The Hinds helicopter A.I. are also vicious. I like the A.I. setup just fine. The harder it is, I have to get better, eventually. Maybe not.

P-51D Rocket Salvo Number Rotary Weird Result
ErichVon replied to ErichVon's topic in Bugs and Problems
I will go run the training video again in game considering setting up the rockets. I could be wrong. You are correct. And I am wrong. Thanks for the clarification. I did have 2 rockets remaining that did not launch when fired. Maybe I sustained battle damage. The numerical value was 12. I had 10 rockets at the start of the mission. I RTB with rockets on the wing and landed. I was in Mutiplayer and killed a freighter with a multi-salvo. -
(Place to forum where it is appropriate, please) P-51D Real: ======== My CH-Profile I made for the Fighterstick, I mapped Button 3 for Weapons Release (Right Alt + Space). In flight, firing at a target, one rocket release, as I release the rocket the numerical value to the Rockets Counter Control, let me say "1" salvo will increase consecutively as I release another rocket until the value will exceed the remaining rockets I have and then they won't fire. This has happened a few times, probably every time. So to correct this, I reset the rotary back to 1 after each rocket salvo, if it is set just for 1, by clicking the 2 keys together [Left Alt + 8 (not the number pad)] Rocket Counter Reset---for now, I mapped a button to reset it. But I think there is a snafu in the Weapons Release button coding. I do not program. I just noticed the effect. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I like the P-51 best of anything DCS or FC2 has in the inventory. Until ED/DCS give us the Bf/Me-109 ;) I can kill a tank just with the .50cal guns and the fixed reticule, sometimes on the 1st pass, phooey with the rockets. (I made some statements earlier about A.I. not being very vicious, not realizing there was quite a nice variety of training missions kind of hidden, that I later found. I was wrong, some of the A.I. training missions are more challenging than one-on-one with most of the real people in Multiplayer. Nice job you guys. Your P-51 is better than what Aces High has currently and more fun.)

There is an Espanol server that does this. Red side has the Lutwaffe Iron Cross skin markings. The guys 1st name is Christian, its his server. Good luck finding the bad guys. I flew a whole tank of gas and never saw the enemy.

Thank you very much for that.

Red Tails Movie - Crazy ass cobra/upswing manouvre?!?!?
ErichVon replied to Aries's topic in Military and Aviation
Yep, those days are gone. I pay for private cable to watch a lot of commercials. I watch 4 TV shows series, all week, and the occasional movie. I am usually doing DCS or similar when I cannot sleep. The only reason we have cable TV is my wife's stupid, NASCAR addiction. Which she retaliates with my stupid Internet flight sims addiction. She is absolutely correct, ughhhhhh---as always! I knew a guy, retired from Raytheon. He told me of his career with them and we talked pleasantly for hours. He refitted decommissioned US Navy ships to 2nd and 3rd world countries with various electronic gear from Raytheon. Since to my local public library, they have all the UFO/paranormal crap next to the computer section it is pretty hard not to resist picking up some of the UFO stuff to read it. I know quite a bit about The Philadelphia Experiment, read the book, saw the movie---I figured it was BS. UNTIL I met Joe! It came to mind while we were talking that Raytheon was involved in The Philadelphia Experiment. So, I asked Joe, "what you know?" Man, he got agitated, hostile, he NEVER heard of it and that ended our polite conversation. NOW? I'm a true believer!! That stuff is still Classified Top Secret. Wish I could have gone to M.I.T. or Princeton, what some of those professors must know. History is relative. There IS what actually happened. Then there are stories by different people who were there, but as they experienced it. Just like a crime scene and the police getting different stories from different people. I get a kick having lived life long enough in the USA to see how our USA leadership has really acted, but only Cable Span or BBC News to get maybe an unbiased look at the true events like Morrow reported on CBS News TV in the 1950's. Then read their autobiographies and how they turn the "truth" around. Yeah, 1st semester college: What is truth? LOL! Whose truth? -
I saw this done early this morning NY time about 4AM. 2 guys were flying 2 different skins, one skin was part of the stock P-51 inventory, one was the Red Tail Users download, but was not the skins Panzertard offered in his server setup? How is this done? Let's say I want to use the "Bare Metal" skin to Bazar>Liveries>P-51D>Bare Metal path. How do I bring up the stock skins (Liveries>P-51D) within the DCS: P-51D game I purchased to use in game in Multiplayer? and in Single Player? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (My earlier thread today in the P-51 forum): ============================ http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=88402 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Also out of the USERS FILES downloads to HOME: P51D - Skin - DCS: P-51D Mustang (Filter settings) I downloaded "Marie" and think I correctly put it in the: Bazar/Liveries/P-51D folder How do I bring up the "Marie" download to re-skin an aircraft in game? I have been trying to figure this out all day, with no success. Maybe the GUI manual within A-10C or Black Shark will shed some light to this. I have never used the mission editor. -+- (I will ask how to make a skin, later, to the appropriate forum.) Thanks for any help.

I have the Mixture Control lever set at run. It is great to kill the engine to over-rich, if you want to slow down fast to cause an overshoot! So far, I can restart it back up. But it is a risky move if you need to get moving again quickly. There are some really good sim combat pilots in MP. These guys have been around awhile flying other sims. Yet, they start in the air because they have problems taking off.

Red Tails Movie - Crazy ass cobra/upswing manouvre?!?!?
ErichVon replied to Aries's topic in Military and Aviation
History Channel via cable TV couple years ago. Depending on litigation issues you might find excerpts of the filmed episodes in YouTube or might be able to purchase it somewhere, maybe even to The History Channel. As to exaggeration of the facts? Case in point. I was US Navy Seabees 1974 to 1982. I enlisted at age 22. We had one guy in my MCB that flunked out of BUDS and we had a Viet Nam SEAL that cracked on his 3rd tour doing mostly behind the lines RECON. Seabees are basically just like the Army Combat Engineers. We had ex-Marines, ex-SEALs, because we still trained light weapons defending what we were doing. We used Army training films. My winter battalion trained to the Army's Camp Drum in the winter, 10th Mountaineering Division. Kind of weird, actually. The guy that flunked out of BUDS told me a lot of what The Discovery Channel showed of several shows showing the training process, also a couple years ago . Actually I thought he was full of BS because it was so fantastic. They did not show it on TV, but a lot of that wet surf stuff, was done in the buff. Hand washing their Greens fatigue uniform in a bucket and starching them for dress inspection every morning at muster. Final exam? A helicopter drops a pair of guys in their wet suits out to sea 20 miles, they have to swim back in---that is what this guy told me. So, TV is not going to show the really gross stuff, or the secretive stuff, but they showed the Rangers puking during their advanced basic training. I agree, it makes good TV and I think they did it to get guys to enlist. -
Specific to the other sim I still sometimes fly. Check out the graphs. They can be copied and printed out larger. http://www.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/P-51D The info is relative as to plane weight, engine type, temperature, humidity, wind, etc. Also see Soda's link at the bottom of the page.

Red Tails Movie - Crazy ass cobra/upswing manouvre?!?!?
ErichVon replied to Aries's topic in Military and Aviation
Great move. I doubt the accuracy of that video animating that move exactly as shown. But come on, that was a lucky shot. Ditto, the guy from I think was from Louisiana, during WWII, doing a side slip in his Wildcat downing a Zero and getting The Medal of Honor for it. I have tried similar moves in both sims and granted the overshoot does happen, I question the modeling of the sims' guns. DCS, though is still a WIP. -
Red Tails Movie - Crazy ass cobra/upswing manouvre?!?!?
ErichVon replied to Aries's topic in Military and Aviation
Yes, that is the guy. What he did later in life does not necessarily mean he was fraudulent in his younger days. Wikipedia is not all that trustworthy as being dead reliable as accuracy of facts. Maybe the NY Times archive or similar, is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Cunningham -
Thanks Viper. I realize it is a WIP. I sometimes experience a right wing snap roll even at high speeds. Separately, I have temporary carburetor hiccups, delays, maybe starving for gas, and I am not inverted. Seems to be related to throttle settings, rpm usually full on. Normal? I use Wags quick start-up directions. I leave the carb ram air always on.

Red Tails Movie - Crazy ass cobra/upswing manouvre?!?!?
ErichVon replied to Aries's topic in Military and Aviation
I found one thread, Reply#5: =================== http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,272726.0.html Not specific to the Bf-109. http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,304680.0.html Search terms: torque roll or torque initiated roll, or 109 stall turn; even maybe Hammerhead. These are not the threads I read a year or two or three ago, but similar. If you download the free Aces High install, you will also get the movie player they have to play the Aces High specific films mentioned or what DCS calls tracks. That figures the films are too old, dead-links. Might try YouTube. -
Thank you much. I learn something new every day. Yes Alt + ' will give the "Rearming and Reloading Window" even in MP. How do I change to a different skin from the path : Bazar/Liveries/P-51D folder ? I added "Marie" and the P-51D sim has several within the program as stock aircraft. I kind of found the answer: ================== http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=87715&highlight=skin Trying to figure this out. I'm a little bit dense...

I suspect what works for one guy and the other, not, is the variations as to the PC used, its setup, and the controllers used, and if online, ISP used, download / upload speed, and ping rate / jumps in between me and the server I am using. My fix works for me (Beta 2): =================== No flaps used. 5 degrees right rudder trim 5 degrees right aileron trim, maybe a bit less, as on 2 wheels I am not there very long. 1 or 2 degrees up elevator trim Full power firewalled at 100 mph, but gradually increased. I finally got her up on a two wheel takeoff. Once in the air, wheels up. I suspect wheel damage may occur over 170 mph. I have a button set to reset all trim to zero, but get some altitude 1st. Then trim as necessary. I am trying to cut back my Axis Tune to zero for each of the 3 controllers, as I feel-out this P-51D. One notch of flap makes it a lot easier, but the DCS Flight Manual says it was not used unless it was heavy. ED: === Please implement the 5 minute limit on WEP so engine damage will occur if left on over that. And limit the actions of the hotshot pilots flying with full power always on. Or is it the intention of the P-51D model to be used just as a dogfighting outlet, screw the reality of it?

Red Tails Movie - Crazy ass cobra/upswing manouvre?!?!?

I have both of Chuck Yeager's books. I love it when sim pilots talk bad about REAL combat pilots. Most of these sim pilots would not even get out of basic military flight school, I bet. -
Red Tails Movie - Crazy ass cobra/upswing manouvre?!?!?
ErichVon replied to Aries's topic in Military and Aviation
Yeah, it is a classic, 109 specific maneuver. 109 in the lead, rope-a-dope the sucker following, at just about the time to stall, jam rudder hard the direction of the propeller spin, and come around most likely on the tail of the aircraft following you. Trick is, who stalls 1st? It is not an easy maneuver to accomplish done correctly. I saw almost the same thing done on an old Turner Classic Movie, but it was a WWI plane. The 109 can out climb a Mustang, unless the Mustang has a lot of reserve E. I will try and find the info to the Aces High Wiki or wherever I saw it mentioned in their messages archive, as to the unbelievers. I saw on TV, the F4 Phantom pilot that tried every trick in the book and his adversary did same. They were pretty much evenly matched, but the Chinese or Russian pilot made a mistake and lost. I know this guy taught at the "Top Gun" school afterwards and they started putting guns back on the jets. There has to be a video out there about this encounter. I bet YouTube has it, too. Guys to Aces High do this 109 maneuver. As to another post, here, later: I have killed a few guys in here already in MP forcing them into an overshoot not firing a shot. They have to be really close. I get slow, real slow, and real fast. They try to follow and stall. I love hedgehopping when all other options are gone. You stall, you are dead. Trick is, do I survive, too? The good pilots do not fall for this trick. You can drop one notch of flaps at 400 mph! Add to that side slip or a crawl. Timing it is crucial. I love the WWII combat of DCS. Give us more planes! This sim is the best I've flown. A lot of sim pilots here are better than me, "Milo" and "ChicagoChad" being two. My P-51 to DCS, unlike to Aces High, will snap roll to the right, even at high speed, given the certain situations I put it in. Almost like one of the Spits will do. My curve in the X-axis is set to 22, Deadzone is 5.
