This is what really should of happened!!
Hellcat61 replied to Corsair7662's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
How so? In its respected field, the Hornet does quite well. I dont believe that it was an adequate replacement for the Tomcat, but it does have a role. Not true. Minus the Fat Albert crew, the Blue Angels usually only fly with two Marine pilots in their formation, sometimes less. The Blue Angels recieved their first Marine in 1954, eight years after their establishment. As for the Tomcat discussion: In the past, the Blue's flew aircraft that were piloted by both Navy and Marine crews in the fleet. Being that the Tomcat was solely a Navy airframe, it could limit its acceptance into the Marine contingent of the Blue Angels. The Tomcat/Blue Angels debacle has come up before, and according to several people I know from the Sunset Community, the swing wings on the Cat wern't exactly ideal for close-in formation flying. Makes sense. The older PW TF-30 model Tomcats had compressor stall issues when going supersonic. Make no mistake that these wern't the only jets to ever have this problem. This issue was later reduced with the "B" and "D" model Tomcats (GE F-110 engine). Compressor stalls did still occasionally occur. This can happen with any jet aircraft. Hornets don't have a spotless safety record either, so be fair and weigh the circumstances of both aircraft before casting a blanket statement. The jet stayed in service for 32 years for a reason. Tomcats have nearly ten years on the Hornets, not to mention that thay are a much more complex airframe. The Tomcat was retired due to the age of it's airframe and the lack of a ongoing assembly line, two things that the Hornet didn't have to contend with. Many of the early Hornets now are in bone yards or are gate guards, replaced by newly built models. The Tomacat didn't have this luxury, and existing airframes had to be procured and repaired. Case in point, the Tomcat was retired due to its age and cost to maintain, not because of any lack of capability. The Navy lost an asset in September 06. Care to back that first part up? It may have not been ideal for close-formation monuvering, but the Tomcat was undoubtedly an airshow favorite; and due to it's slow-speed handling, was quite monuverable. I can find you hud footage of a Tomcat turning and burning with a German MiG-29. Maneuverability was never an issue with the Tomcat. Cheers, Hellcat -
Happens to the best of them..

Multiple aircraft in parking area
Hellcat61 replied to Hellcat61's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Only way I got it to work was setting the Buff (or whatever aircraft is needed) within your flight, start at the taxi area. The other aircraft in your flight will automatically taxi, take off and complete its mission, or so it seems. I will continue to look into this more in depth. I would just like to be able to set them up as seperate flights that take off independently. -
Would someone be kind enough to explain to me how to set up multiple jets preparing to take off in the parking area? It seems that if I dont make the aircraft part of my flight, they wont take appear. For instance: I want to excort a B-52 in my Eagle. I need him to take off from the parking area ahead of me and not be a member of my flight. He just doesnt show up at all. Why is this, and how can it be corrected? I appreciate any help I can get. -Helk

OT: Navy to name next carrier after Ford!

Explain that comment... -

OT: Navy to name next carrier after Ford!
Hellcat61 replied to BladeLWS's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Good choice. This name was actually intended prior to Ford's death, but Rummy devulged it a bit early. I think it's an alright name. It will be odd calling them Ford Class carriers though. I was hoping "America" or "Independence" for the class name, but Ford will suffice. -
what hornet mod are you uisng?

The fate and revive of the F-14-READ!

I certainly miss that jet. There truly isn't anything else like it in the world. -
Who got FS:X for christmas??
Hellcat61 replied to Corsair7662's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Congrats. I hope you have a monster of a machine or else the only thing you will be able to do with the game is make screenshots. -
I can dream, cant I? :(
-
I am! Next to the Flankers (which look pretty crappy IMHO) the Hog needs the most work. I am extatic about this new model. Cant wait.
-
Eric, can those laser guided missiles hit moving ground targets, or are they only able to hit stationary ones?
-
Correct! Forgive my mix up. The GBU-15 is TV guided though, correct? No matter which platform carries what bomb, both the GBU-15 and '24 need a new model. Frankly, the look like crap. I would like to see those bombs with upgraded models.
-
The Fitter was diving toward me, going under my jet. The missile came off the rail and arked down steeply. My distance may be off a bit, but I could definately tell what I was shooting at, so im assuming that the '22 was between a half and quarter mile away. Im not to keen on the capabilities of the new AIM-9's. I know that the old model's wern't that great, and the new X's are like a martian death ray. Unfortunately we dont have them. :(

I hate to resort to FAS, but I've also seen pics of the hog carrying the GBU-24. Look at the supported platforms at the bottom of the page. I know it isn't common for the hog to carry LGB's, but it is possible. I would also like a nice GBU-24 to hang from other AI jets also. The GBU-15 is electro optical, so I assume that you're correct and it cant be carried by the Hog. I guess it's limited to F-111's and F-15E's. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/smart/gbu-24.htm Either way, nice models never hurt. Hellcat

Strange. My sidewinders seem to hit their targets from almost all angles. I fired on a Su-22 last night that was diving in front of me about a quarter mile out. The missile smashed into the jet's upper fuselage. Is that realistic? Does my effectiveness slider need to be toned down?
-
Im not seeing the big deal. Demo jets do low passes all of the time. What's different about this one?
-
They are particles of crystalized water vapor that condense around the aircraft's exaust at high altitude. Basically man-made clouds.
-
I hope no one minds me requesting a new GBU-24 model. I have been playing around with the A-10's GBU capability and realized that the GBU24 and GBU15 are not up to par with the other guided weapons in this game. Is there are a better model for these two weapons currently? If not, would someone be kind enough to make one. (I do realize modeling is no light task btw). Any and all new models make this game better.

Looks good. I recommend placing a carrier air wing tailcode on them though.

Thanks Ericj!

I just downloaded this file from walmis' sig. Due to the sheer size of this thread, backtracking is going to be hard. Could someone tell me what edit's or downloads need to be made to fix any bugs? Thanks.
