Ok, when you are assigning functions to your stick in Options>controls, you can give each button a function, however you can do more if you assign a modifier as well. Hard to explain,, but for example I set one of the buttons on the base as a modifier. You can add modifiers in the options>controls screen, it's at the bottom left,,then I assign for example HOTAS DMS Forward function to be that modifier plus forward push on hat switch. What it means is if I am using the DMS, then I hold the modifier button, which is one of the ones on the base, whilst manipulating the hat switch on the stick. If I then want to use the TMS, I hold whichever switch on the base I set as the modifier for TMS and carry on using the hat switch. It's kind of hard to explain, but actually probably very simple, you need to spend a fair amount of time in the options >controls screen decidiing which buttons on the base of the stick you need to use as modifiers. Some of them, like CMS, I never got onto the stick and used a modifier i.e left shift with the arrow keys on the keyboard. I'm not exactly a computer whizz myself, if someone that is comes along then there is probably a way I can give you my setup. But it's probably best you learn how to set it up yourself because it's not that hard and what seems logical to me probably won't to someone else!

I used the six buttons on the base, on the lefty hand side, each as a modifier. Then you use the modifier plus the hat switch for BOAT,CHINA HAT, COOLIE,DMS, TMS, PINKY. I had master mode on the left thumb switch. Can't check the exact settings because my stick is U/S at the moment. However I never had a problem because I was using that stick, always because I didn't know the exact sequence to loose a maverick. Takes some practice.

How to adjust ILS frequency with no mouse wheel?
bluepilot76 replied to FBDon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I can't check, but from memory, I would say you can either; Left click to go up, right click to go down,,or Left click and hold, push mouse vertically up to go up or down to go down. But maybe that's a different simulator. Anyway you do not need an ILS to land, I would say that is quite advanced procedure. Or you could head down the shop and buy a really cheap mouse with a roller wheel, good practice for the Track IR and expensive joystick your also going to buying with in a few weeks! -
Thanks for taking the time to reply PeterP! Alas, why did I think it might be simple? After years searching for Flight sim nirvana I should have known that there is no easy path. Nothing showing on ebAy or amazon for UK at the moment, and lack of buttons looks like it could be too much of an issue for the Hawg. Looks like I will have to go back to the T16000m and hope the rudder lasts longer this time...
-
Ground speed from GPS etc might be slightly useful, but you need to be cautious: if the winds are 100 knots at your altitude (not unusual), this could easily be the difference between stalling or exceeding red line speed.

If you don't heat it, and fly through moisture below zero, it can freeze over the tube. Then your ASI will will be inaccurate. So turn it on, pretty sure you would do this before takeoff. AF447 started to go wrong when the pitot froze over.

Hi, My rudder axis on thrustmaster t16000 was acting up so I took it apart to fix it. Now I need a new joystick... I like the t16000 but not impressed with losing the z channel after a year or so, probably been flying sopwith camels too much. Isnt there a cheap stick that everyone thinks works well with KA50, because of the FFB?. I always thought I would try that next but now can't find the relevant threads. I thought it might be sidewinder but that does not have FFB? Before we get into debate about TM warthog and X52 and the other one, I should point out my stick needs to be able to travel with me in a small bag. It needs to be an all in one. Any help appreciated!

There is a 3d tv at work, maybe I will give it a try there. Cheers! -

Oh. I was hoping the answer was some of those 2.99 glasses, and maybe a free download off nvidia! -

Please excuse my density, what do I need to experience this goodness? -
In my mind the HAS in Georgia are probably the old mechanical ones. I see it more like NATO come into Georgia for some peacekeeping or whatever, and they have to deal with what there is. So old soviet airfields that havent probably been used for 20 years....so lumpy runways, grass between the concrete, knackerred old HASs etc. If you look at the airfields in GE they are generaly in a bit of a state! So I dont mind if the groundcrew has to use a bit of brute force to get the old doors open. Even more reason why they shouldnt fly open like a fast thing going fast on fast day.
-
I mean a HAS. I never saw the sim start in a maintenance hanger. I wouldnt expext to run it in there either.
-
Some nice information here. So it sounds like running the jet in the HAS is not that unlikely. As it is its not every mission in DCS that starts in the HAS and in fact many that do do tend to be early morning ones. So thats all very real and good. So yeah, I think it would be great if the doors would open a bit more realistically! With a claxon and flashing light would be awesome! But I wouldnt want to ask for too much! Paulrkiii: In your scenario where the jet gets started and taxiied out for the rest of the checks, would the pilot not start the alignment untill outside?
-
OK, good points, is that definately the case in a time of war though? I would have thought it is a good idea to keep the doors shut until the last moment? Yes the engines cant start with the doors shut but what about the APU? that takes a little while to spin up..or is it just totally unrealistic to have the thing starting in the hangar at all? Anyway as missions do start in the hangar I would still like to see the doors open a bit slower and maybe not the very second that you press the pause / break. By the time Ive centred the Track IR and waited for the stupid zoom thing to finish the animation is over which is a bit of a shame. Never thought to stick her down on the belly. quite a good idea that! Maybe not if theres a lot of others needing to land after though..
-
Hi, Two small things I would like to see changed.. 1) It would be better if the hangar door did not open immediately the mission was started. Its a nice effect, I would like to savour it! Also I think those bad boys would take a longer time to open. There is no hurry- its going to take 5 minutes to get her up and running anyway! 2) Often in a shot up landing you end up on the grass. All very well that the ground crew come and fix it, but it would be nice if they would tow it to the nearest bit of concrete too! As it is you remain stuck. Best Regards Bluepilot76

Ah ok good I will see if I can do that. Any Qs I will come back. Normally consider this sort of thing above my level but managed to edit the labels the other day without causing the computer to meltdown so I will have a bash! Thanks!
-
Is it not illegal to make a video like that and not show any approach and landing shots? It will be one day! Looks like a lot of fun!
-
Ive had the problem with 38T or 37T and was wondering if there was something I was missing... so is the gross error check the only way we can see an error? Its not on the map anywhere? It can still be a problem in some missions where the targets could occur in a very large area. But I suppose that is why some missions require knowledge of lat long entry? Shirley this is catered for IRL?
-
I think your best bet at getting this solved is over on the Avsim forums. Plenty of serious FSX problem solving knowledge over there. They solved any issues I have had with FSX..good luck!
-
Yes you should try using CCIP. It is fun! Think Stuka... It is also kind of easy, as long as you give yourself enough height and space.
-
True red spots would also be good! Que all those Empire of The Sun moments..."P51! Cadillac of the Sky!" Georgia even looks a bit like Japan! That could work!

Wich is a good CMS program forcountermeasures?
bluepilot76 replied to LcSummers's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Is the consensus that the semi - mode is not up to the job? that you can program something better yourself? In the interest of making my life easier I have been using semi, based on the idea that the system designers know a lot more about defeating the different systems than I do. My knowledge extends to "chaff for radar and flares for heat seeking". UK Apache Pilots in Afghanistan use the automatic settings as it is acknowledged as being a lot cleverer than they are (no disrespect intended!... Just that the system has faster reactions and more information to go on. Source: "Apache Dawn" or possibly the other one., both brilliant.) Best defense is avoidance but sometimes you got to get stuck in... -
OK EtherealN Thanks for your help..I guess I need to go and spread the love....
-
Hmm,that doesnt seem right, 1) I dont think I have repped him before 2) I have had both a positive and negative rep off him. Perhaps you could check the settings.

Spitfire would be great! However I think something with black crosses might be a bit more usefull.....
