Alternatives to using an endless amount of Leo Bodnar boards?
obious posted a topic in Home Cockpits
Hi All, To give a bout of context, I’m currently going through the motions of building an F-18C VR cockpit. So far, I’m using two Leo Bodnar BU0836X boards as well as three TM Cougar MFDs but am planning on building out my own DDIs. With the anticipated additional buttons of the DDIS that I’ll have to plug into *something*, I’m trying to think of another solution that won’t require me to buy at least another 2 LB boards (not just the BU0836X but maybe different ones he sells instead). I’ve started to look into DCS BIOS as a possible solution but does anyone know of any alternatives to buying more LB boards? It’s not the cost necessarily that I’m worried about, more that I’m running out of USB ports on my PC  Thanks! -
Waypoint cycling is not changing where the TGP is looking
obious replied to obious's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Ahh ok, thanks for the input! -
Hi All, Simply put, when using the TGP to drop some LGB goodness on some deserving tanks, I’m unable to get it to lock onto the next waypoint that has been designated over the next target (using the ICP rocker switch). I have a mission setup with 6 waypoints but am finding that the TGP will only lock onto the first one and not additional ones after cycling through waypoints. I can’t even get it to lock back onto the first waypoint after making the TGP SOI and slewing around. Anyone know if this is a bug or am I missing something? Cheers

+1. ED/Nineline any chance of some input?

[ALREADY REPORTED]Why is the strobe light so weak?
obious replied to obious's topic in Bugs and Problems
Got it, thanks guys! -
Hi All, After returning to the Hornet after flying the F-16 & JF-17 for the last month, I thought I’d dive into the deep end with come CASE III night carter ops. Once I managed to trap (4th time lucky; 2 wire), I went to turn on the red flashing light(s) on the tail(s) of the F-18C only to be very disappointed with how bright they are. I’m comparing here to the F-16C & JF-17 at least. Does anyone know if this is intended or if ED are planning on looking at it? I only ask as I remember vividly watching the PBS show Carrier almost a decade ago and recall that I saw the light from the red tail lights reflect on the wings etc whenever they flashed (as the aircraft banked overhead the carrier I might add) Also, how many strobe lights are there supposed to be? One on the outside of each tail? Cheers!

Hi All, I'm just wondering if its possible to get the Stennis and her associated escorts to use the on board CIWS? Basically, I've got a bunch of F-18Cs with Harpoons directing their attack at the CVBG which gets obliterated once the Hornets start their attack. I'm trying to build a carrier defence mission and want the awesome looking CIWS to play a role :) Thanks! Mods, please move if in the incorrect place!

Installed Brickdust's cockpit, now getting green camo/broken textures.
obious replied to obious's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Yup, that solved it; deleted the 'Liveries' folder that I created during the install and since forgot about Thanks! -
Hi All, Pretty simple question really, I installed Brickdust's cockpit textures to improve readability a little while ago and since coming back to the 'Cat, I've found that I'm getting green digital camo textures (I'm assuming my install broke something somewhere). Anyone know how to revert to the original HB cockpit textures? I've tried a cleanup/repair of DCS but that doesn't seem to do anything. Any ideas? Cheers

Hi All, Pretty simple request I think but in order to expand to a wider market segment (those gaming with an Xbox One controller for example and that don't have TrackIR or a dedicated sim rig) I think its a good idea to create the ability to bind the external view to an axis (I'm thinking the right analog stick of an Xbox controller for example). This is similar to other flight sims on the market that I won't mention here. Similar in principle to using the mouse to 'look around' externally but one of the main differences here is that once the analog axis is allowed to recenter, the view defaults to behind the aircraft (or make it possible to stop moving the camera. Just a thought.

Hi All, I know this is specific to a particular laptop but I’ve tired searching online (YT etc) and cant find any conclusive answers. Simply put, I travel a lot and am looking to buy a 13” laptop so that I can fly whilst on the road. I think I’ve narrowed by choice to the latest Razer 13” laptop (1080p, dedicated GPU) but would like to know if anyone has bought one and what the performance is like before I pull the trigger. Also, if anyone has any experience with 13” gaming laptops other than the Razer, please let me know your thoughts on what you bought. Thanks!

+1 for this

Hi All I received my Jetseat today and after trying it out for the past 2-3 hours, I have some thoughts/questions. 1. Is anyone else experiencing what only can be described as itching after about 15-20 mins of use around where the motors are located? I’m pretty sure it’s down to the motors getting hot but it’s a somewhat uncomfortable sensation. 2. I’ve spent my time with the Jetset pretty much solely with the f-18 and have started to notice that instead of the constant ‘hum’ of the engine, I’m feeling what only can be described as a pulsing effect which is rather annoying. 3. Is there anyway to adjust the motor curves? I’m finding it difficult to notice the onset of increased G/AoA though the seat as the motors seem to be only on/off with a very small curve. Anyone else experiencing the same things like I am above? Thanks!

+1 for this idea. Also, the notion that this shouldn’t be prioritised because there is other more important work to focus on is ridiculous. I.e. imagine being able to easily measure the performance impact of the new CVN model (animated deck crew etc) with the click of a button and be given tangible results.

Hi All, Pretty simple ask it does anyone know what the size of the Hornet’s DDI is? I’m looking to 3D print my own DDI but would like to know the dimensions. I’ve checked OpenHornet’s DDI size and that differs from the DDIs that PCFlights offers so I’m a little confused Also, I have a feeling that TM Cougar MFDs are a little too small and aren’t the right sizing for the F18? Thanks!

Results of GTX 1080 Ti to RTX 2080 Ti upgrade
obious replied to GregP's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Does anyone know what the 3080(ti) is supposed to look like in terms of spec/performance. I know its early but if we saw around a 30fps increased from going to a 2080ti from a 1080ti, is it plausible to expect another 30% jump? Or is that asking too much? -
Can someone explain to me how I’m supposed to be interpreting the metrics that fpsVR is showing me? I’m seeing around ~18-20ms when flying close to the ground or in complex scenarios (ie basically anything other than the NTTR F-18 free flight mission. Ie shall I be tuning to aim for 11ms? I’ve also noticed that based upon my rig (see sig.), my GPU sits at around ~75% utilisation; I’m assuming this means my CPU is the bottleneck?

That's really interesting. Maybe we could collaborate?

Hi All, I’m thinking to 3D print 3 MFDs for the JF-17 but I can’t find any documentation online that detail their dimensions. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction to some documentation? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi all, First, let me just say that I’ve been debating whether or not to buy the JF17 for a while but I did last night just for the hell of it, and oh boy am I impressed. I genuinely cannot believe that an early access product has been released in the states with this many complete features/toys. Granted, there may be a few bugs and things that are still in flight but overall, I’m very happy with my purchase and the state of the aircraft! Thank you Deka!! I do have a question however. When I’m using the TPOD I find that the lock/focal point keeps moving around and can’t lock onto an interested target. Even after pressing the TDC lock, the focal point of the TPOD keeps moving. Any ideas how to make it lock and stop moving? Thanks!

Hi All, I’m coming back to DCS/be after being a away for a while but am having major issues. I’m running a SteamVR SS of 200% (as I’ve done ever since I got the Reverb) but am getting horrendous performance. I also noticed (after taking a look) that the ‘enablemotionrepo’ flag was commented out by default which I didn’t do; I set it to auto about 2-3 months ago and forgot about it. Was there an update of some kind that impacted all the of above?

According to their website, apparently they’re already in stock

Hi All, Long story short, after buying a 3D printer over Christmas I thought I'd get to grips with how to generally design things and how to print them. I've learnt over the past 3-4 weeks that my 3D printer (Anycubic Chiron) can be a cruel mistress and be very unforgiving. :( Before I tackle the F-18's UFC which is my main aim, I thought I'd have a go at the AV-8B NA UFC and see how far I get. I know Brun has designed a UFC, and as great as it is, I've struggled printing it at home. I've printed it 5-6 times with various Cura settings and each time I'm not happy with the results. I think one of the main issues I've found is that it has to be printed with supports. Its worth noting that I bought it off Shapeways about a year ago and have been using it ever since then, it truly is a great bit of CAD. From the images, it's pretty clear to see my progress; I fly mainly in VR so I don't have much use for panels etc to be back lit. All the components (UFC housing, UFC itself, R & L cautionary panels, buttons & HUD control panel) are separate and can be easily printed without the need for supports. I've decided to create and use my own buttons as I like the feel of 6mm tactile switches, it makes the designing process easier when trying to avoid printing with supports and I also think it makes for a more life-like reproduction (aesthetically). I've managed to find someone on eBay who's printed the UFC button stickers for me so I didn't have to create 25+ individual buttons which I think will be a real time saver. All other hardware that this is designed to be used with (toggle switches, rotary knobs and pots are standard off-the-shelf eBay stuff so they should be very easy to acquire I'm planning on sharing the STLs once I've added a few finishing touches but wanted to share it here to get any feedback prior to publishing. Anyhow, let me know what you think! Av8B UFC Complete.zip Thanks!

Does anyone know when the 8K X is on sale? or if anyone here has pulled the trigger?

Totally agree, the ability offset the vertical alignment would be awesome. I don't use the HMD in VR because of precisely this issue
