  1. A lot of it is about the speed of the process. CCIP, in general, is faster to set up and execute than CCRP, and so is better suited to dynamic battlefield situations such as targets of opportunity. CCIP fluency is also valuable when you are flying without the benefit of a targeting pod or guided/precision munitions. Or at least, that's how I tend to look at it. I'm sure that others will be able to provide you with more definitive answers.
  2. No, this forum is exceptional due to the quantity and quality of the assistance one receives when one communicates one's concerns with civility and clarity. There is no elitism here, far from it. Try the BIS forums if you'd care to experience some serious exclusionary elitism. As for "racist intellectual crap" - I don't even know where to go with that.
  3. My 2 pennies on this: As long as your basic hardware can run the sim smoothly, no peripheral will add more to your sim experience than TrackIR. A good HOTAS system is a close second. I work from home, and need all four of my screens for that. However, I quickly found that using an ultra-wide display resolution (via Eyefinity) did not add enough to the experience to offset the frames I was losing. If you can get yourself set up with one high-quality monitor (I'd recommend 27" or better - my next upgrade :music_whistling:), you'll not be missing anything. Unless you are building a sim pit, stick to one main display, and maybe a second touch display for use with Helios once you've settled into the sim. Good luck and have fun!
  4. Making some of us look bad, Fish! Thanks for another great tutorial!
  5. The best way for you to help us help you is to post a track of your experience. After your mission, click on "Save Track." Post a reply here and attach the file (click on "Go Advanced" instead of "Post Quick Reply").
  6. And lots of tiny new windows!
  7. When JTAC says they are "heading east", that means they are heading to the east from their present position. The tanks could be to your north, south, east, west, or wherever, so this information is useless unless you already know where the tanks are in general. JTAC doesn't really know where you are exactly, so they wouldn't be able to tell you where your target is in relation to your present position. This is why they give you a 9-line - so you know where the target is and how to safely approach/engage it.
  8. I think I have successfully derailed this topic.
  9. Trust me, I stuck with it for a good while, but I just can't deal with it. Instead, I use the trim hat with a modifier. Maybe I'll try out a stepped curve as PeterP suggests - it would help to mitigate those occasional unwanted trim inputs...:music_whistling:
  10. I used to do the same thing, but the image "shake" drove me out of my mind. Is there a fix for this, or do you just possess a more stable personality than I? :helpsmilie:
  11. Hey! What's Nate doing in that pointy thing?
  12. Happy to help! It can be tricky to get these guys to light 'em up sometimes, you just need to keep fiddling with them until they do their job!
  13. Still too far away. I know it looks like it's very close in the ME map, but it's still @3km out. Try this one, then move it back until you don't get the SPARKLE option - apparently you can get 2km out before it's too far. ir test 1km.miz
  14. How are you determining that the IR pointer is not activating? The mission as you posted it has no player aircraft - are you actually placing a player aircraft, flying the mission, contacting the JTAC and calling for "sparkle" on target? Otherwise, the JTAC will just sit there. He won't lase the target on his own.
  15. How are you checking?
  16. You've got the right type of unit designating, and it appears to be configured properly, but it is over 5km from the target, which I think may be too far. There may also be line-of-sight issues. Try moving it closer - @ 1km, then progressively move it back to see where the threshold is.
  17. Another good beginner mission involving simple coordinate entry and target acquisition, plus a little atmosphere to keep things fun: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=78748
  18. I know that's not what you meant, but it's the image that popped into my head.
  19. 42 here - need a wingman? :pilotfly:
  20. My TIR sensor sits rather high as well. I found that adjusting the clip to face the sensor more directly helped a lot. When I had the passive clip, this was simply a matter of pushing my cap back on my head a bit. With the LED clip, I just rotate the clip upward a bit when I attach it to the headphones. Pushing the headphone band back a bit on my head also helps by rotating the whole assembly upward. As for the centering/"groove" issue - I find that one:one works well. Also, do you use precision mode?
  21. Dang. I would have bought a bunch for a sweet SSD RAID.
  22. You sure it's an SSD? That must have been one heck of a sale if it is!
  23. Maybe, but that new interface wouldn't be integrated in to the actual plane for years, if not decades.
  24. Fantastic! Love the nose art!
  25. Just for clarity, "AA" typically refers to ground-based Anti-Aircraft weaponry. The acronym "AAM" (I have also seen "A2A", though I don't think it's too common) stands for "Air-to-Air Missile".
