  1. Yes, most missions will supply all asset info in the briefing - JTACs, AWACs, Tankers, etc. Best to write everything down (or use a mission card) before you load in. Go get 'em! WarriorX's mission card here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1024526&postcount=1
  2. HOTAS Mic Switch Forward is your AM VHF Radio (VHF 1).
  3. That"mission" (it's a scripted tutorial, actually) is all set up for you. Your JTAC is Darknight 1 at 30Mhz FM VHF, which is already entered into the appropriate radio. This information is not included in the briefing, however. When it comes time to call JTAC, just enter [HOTAS Mic Switch Aft] (default key map is [Left Shift Numpad -]). Select JTACs and proceed through the radio call.
  4. Fakum - What mission are you trying to fly, exactly?
  5. paulrkiii's Air Defense Guide 2.0
  6. I am also having this issue with the North armor, for the record. Still, a fun, simple (in a good way) mission with lots to do. A great introduction to more complex situations for new pilots ready to progress past "go there, kill that". The coord entry is a nice "push" into CDU data entry, and the lack of JTAC is a good opportunity to exercise the ol' Mark 1. Also, the friendly vehicles/armor add some immersion when everyone starts shooting. I had a great laugh after destroying the North bridge - I have civi traffic on "high" and the ensuing traffic jam was backed up into the city!
  7. I did not pre-order (discovered DCS too late for that) yet I will happily pay for the Nevada update. Not only am I glad to support a quality developer, I look forward to the possibilities afforded by the Nevada terrain - specifically, Red Flag, Green Flag West, Gunsmoke, et al. Not to mention the sunsets!
  8. I just wear sunglasses during day ops, with lightly tinted amber lenses. Works great!
  9. *edit: Not sure you CAN tint that view, as there isn't an overlay, is there?
  10. Just like the real thing, yes! You do need actual rudder pedals when using the TMWH.
  11. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1248810 Another good discussion of L/L coord entry and understanding.
  12. Things I use often (checklists, reference material) I have printed out and keep in a binder. Other items I call up as needed on my Thinkpad. I also have a DCS app for Android that gives me quick access to ground charts. In addition, I have a 9-Line card and Mission Data card printed on card stock and inserted in a plastic sleeve. I use china marker or dry erase to fill them in as needed.
  13. Wait - when you "hold V" (China Hat Forward Long) you are slewing all sensors to your SPI. Why then are you slewing your Mav around? It should already be on your target, which is what you just marked as your SPI with the TGP.
  14. Don't answer, fellas - it's a trap!

I try not to think about it.
  16. Select your profile then check the "Exclusive" box to lock it.
  17. Shouldn't it be the other way around?
  18. After spending far too much time thinking about this lately, I just put on some RL sunglasses. Amber-tinted, not too dark. Works great!
  19. Welcome! You'll quickly find that this is a very helpful and friendly community. As for the overwhelming number of commands, it's actually a lot simpler than it looks. The main things to focus on (as far as mapping your stick) are the HOTAS commands, whose functions largely depend upon what your sensor-of-interest (SOI) is. Being an NFO, I'll assume you are already clear on the concepts of SOI/SPI... Happy flying!
  20. Viper posted the basics for a gun run on armor (post #3), as for soft targets - I very loosely follow the same protocol, only at extended range. I agree with the above - figuring out a way to get PAC 1 working will make precision gunning much easier and more effective. Still, the "A" variant didn't have this system and they seemed to get along, so whatever works for you!
  21. I spent a solid 90 minutes just sifting through the Tacview track - lots of little dramas going on there!
  22. Maybe it's me, but I really can't figure out what it is you are asking. You want to press a key that zooms you in on a MFCD because you find it difficult to press a key that zooms you in on a MFCD?
  23. I didn't realize that there was a CIWS based on the Avenger - a bazillion 20mm rounds aren't enough to kill a missile?
  24. Maybe, but it gets to wear a neat white hat!
  25. Pic stolen from Google images: OBS17 displays your spheroid info.
