  1. Addendum: Oatmeal is also a bad choice.
  2. Welcome to DCS! Just to reinforce/expand upon what has already been said, take the time to really learn this sim. Do the tutorials as many times as it takes to gain true understanding. Also, many members of the community have posted a number of fantastic Youtube tutorials for all of the various systems (radios/weapons/nav/etc) found in the cockpit. Enjoy! And never be afraid to ask questions here - you will always (eventually:music_whistling:) receive an intelligent and thorough answer.
  3. Congrats and welcome to the club!
  4. RWR sensors. There are two on the tailcap as well.
  5. Oh. No, no, no. Dozens of douchebags running around with IRNV-scoped automatic shotguns loaded with frag rounds is not a "combat simulation". I'll take a bug-ridden ArmA 2 (or better yet, PR:BF2) over BF3 any day. OT: Really looking forward to the possibility of Combined Arms - as much as I love flying the hog, calling in strikes as a JTAC is something I would love to be able to do.
  6. Trim commands are located in the HOTAS section, at the bottom. Which raises an important point - most of the commands you'll be using are HOTAS commands. These are commands like "DMS Aft short" and "TMS Forward long". By themselves, they do nothing but move the relevant switches/buttons on the virtual HOTAS. The actual function that is executed depends on the situation. I'm not explaining this too well as I am nearly unconscious, but the bottom line is: learn to think in terms of HOTAS commands, not their end result.
  7. Ah, but you don't! One feature of turbofans in general is that they are relatively quiet. I forget the specifics, but the A-10 is essentially inaudible from the ground when above a certain altitude AGL - somewhere between 5,000 and 8,000.
  8. Don't use Notepad. http://notepad-plus-plus.org/
  9. I think you may have already come to this conclusion, so I may be belaboring the point, but if you have any plans to approach this sim the way it is "meant" to be flown, game mode is literally a waste of your time. When you switch over to sim mode, you'll find that you still need to learn basically everything, as well as un-learn what game mode taught you. Welcome and enjoy! And say "goodbye" to your friends and family for a while!
  10. Alternately, you can select the profile via DMS with the HUD as SOI. For further "idiot-proofing", I also name my profiles so I can see in the HUD that the correct profile is active.
  11. There shouldn't be. When you drop a LGB, autolase should kick in normally. Latch only affects manual lasing.
  12. I didn't miss his point at all. He wants information regarding a product that is currently under development. Developers don't like to give out information, because often enough it ends up being inaccurate or incorrect. It's the nature of software development - things are constantly changing.

  14. Well, for some people, the whole point of a sim is to SIMulate an experience that they otherwise would never have. Some people want their simming to be as "real" as possible. For them, that's what is fun.
  15. Forcing creative minds to commit to arbitrary deadlines leads to substandard results. Do you want a rushed, semi-functional and buggy/glitchy patch, or do you want an excellent finished product on the developers' terms?
  16. Indeed, my wording was off the mark, as I made it sound as though the DCS products were being used by TBS. Clearly, the actual relationship is closer to the converse of that. But enough about this - we've got tanks to kill.
  17. I didn't mean to suggest that TBS is being developed for commercial release, just that there is a connection there. Looking at the videos on the TBS site, it is clear that their A-10 and Ka-50 modules are related to their DCS counterparts.
  18. And from what I understand, A-10C and Black Shark are both essentially "modules" of a larger endeavor, The Battle Simulator. http://www.thebattlesim.com/index.php?end_pos=3&scr=newslist&lang=en Their site hasn't been updated in ages, though.
  19. Approach hold, yes. Autoland, no. Very different systems.
  20. Can you post a track?
  21. I'm using CH Pro Pedals with no issue. Make sure you don't have multiple axes mapped to the same functions.
  22. When you select munitions via the DSMS, you reset them to their default configuration. Select your saved profiles via the HUD (HUD is SOI, /DMS Left/Right).
  23. I also did the same for the "wind" files: Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\Sounds\Effects\Aircrafts\planewind.wav Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\Sounds\Effects\Aircrafts\planewindIn.wav
  24. Or a BMP-2. One night I felt like running through Hideout real quick, just for grins. After the main threats were dealt with, I had my wingy RTB, then rolled in to clean up the stragglers with the GAU-8. I managed to RTB on one engine and with no avionics.
  25. Only one way to find out...
