It needs to be more than a AI reader of a manual. It needs to interact with User's actions and responses. For example it needs to be able to talk something like this: "Hey Copilot, how do I drop a GBU 12?" (or via a Rosetta interface like Heatblur has you select what you want to learn or do - for the case a voice commanded interaction is not possible) "**Master Arm On**: Turn on the Master Arm switch." "Where is that?" (or double press the AI.nstructor button to go one more level of detail further in the answer) "Front Left Panel. Start looking above your right knee" "Why is this the first step?" (or double tap AI.structor button again) "This is connected to the concept of having a first line all around safety on all weapons onboard, without it turned On the weapons are disarmed either electrically or logically not selectable or usable in the complicated process of firing" (making this up but you get the idea) Also it needs to be able to say after it commands Master Arm On and the user drops the gear lever down: "No! Not the gear lever!" - and raises the gear lever itself "Ok, then which one?" "This one!" - highlights and after 2 seconds flips the Master Arm itself saying: "This one on the left panel! Look! have you seen it?" "Yes" "Good, next..." etc I know it sounds SF but if you talk today with something like ChatGPT this sounds possible.

I expect that DCS AI will get better and more natural over time just like the FM got better and more in depth over time. For example most quad drones and maybe even helicopter drones can hover in real life conditions pretty decently so all it needs is a bridge between the AI part that drives the real drone to the LLM AI that can speak out what it knows theoretically and what the input-effect from the user tells it. Again... I am not saying this is trivial stuff, that's why I don't expect "a mod" a la Skyrim ChatGPT to just do it... although I wouldn't be shocked really if someone would manage to do just that... To clarify maybe... what I am aiming in the end is the experience of flying with a real instructor in the plane or along side the plane as a wingman that sees all you do in the cockpit and knows all the theory as a comprehensive "meta".

As we grow older (and richer... just kidding) we accumulate more and more modules from DCS (and other flghtsims) but also time gets more and more limited and we kind of start to lag behind. Some of us still play a lot single player. I for example am a almost 100% DCS single player but long for playing 100% multiplayer... but the schedule and difficulty in mastering each airframe just keeps me away. Like me maybe more and more players start accumulating dust on their modules... I have still to start learning F-16, F-18, F-14, Ah-64 and still much to learn on Mi-24 and Ka-50 and a lot to fine tune on the rest of the pile of modules. Many times after a hiatus from playing we return to the sim jump in the cockpit and... bah... "I forgot that and that and that" To all this add... no... ADD a VR headset over our head and the image of STUCK might be complete. Maybe some other older players but even younger simmers can chip in with their own angle on this issue. Of course there are players that either because are young and at the start of the carrier or their personal situation allow them to keep up with DCS 100% and they are true masters of it... hats off for them! But the big market of players new or old might hit at some point some part of this "wall" I describe here... possible it has a name already and I just don't know it. And I think this can have a hit on the sales also. I for example have less of an incentive to buy modules and especially to buy them on "early access" since I know I won't have the time to learn them till they get "released". Not only this creates a problem on the sales ends but it could create a solution too. So how I envisage something like a solution to this? A.I. Becomes cheaper and cheaper. Take an AI from some provider... Open AI, Groot, Copilot (sic), Gemini etc and throw in it all the manuals for all the modules, all BFM, ACM, etc etc basically throw as much of the general DCS or specific module "META" in it then create a system of assistance that should be at the end basically as a smart Copilot/Wingman Instructor. It should function either with a bush button like you talk with it (him?) either when you point at something in the cockpit or when you want to ask a question about a function or maneuver. Examples: Point to some radio and push AI button. A.I.nstructor should say: "That's the x radio used to this or that. Do you want more in depth information?" (yes/no) If you go to in-depth IT can start a lesson about how to use that element or function. I know F4 has some neat (almost not functional) feature where you can ask what is this and it opens the manual. It's cool but I am talking about a step further... a true AI Instructor that can talk contextually and give vastly more info and more personalized on the situation and player. Like wise for learning systems... it can go full encyclopedia on you and bring in trivia etc etc. Meta...(not the company) or Push A.I.nstructor button and ask: I want to learn hovering, what am I doing wrong? And then he should be able to assit you. or You do a dogfight with IT in the back or against IT ad he should be able to assist you in the whole maneuver. Like tell you if a one or two circle is recommended or when to pull or when to ease up. I am not talking about Jester like "oh it was behind us 6 o'clock" or something but real smart coaching. I know this is not trivial stuff but I also know ED is trying to make the AI plane smarter so... win-win. Of course another small aspect such function should be server side enforceable as OFF if for some reason in online such instructor might be too much o an advantage. This could also be an opportunity either to increase the appeal of DCS World to more players that could see a real chance to learn it or/and an opportunity to a new revolutionary module and/or service. Imagine the whole startup missions and weapons and system training missions redone with AI. If one need an inspiration to what a good AI and a inspired implementation could do can look at AI driven NPC and Quest generation in RPG games... something like Skyrim with ChatGPT for example would be a good start for some inspiration moments. And before someone say... "RTFM"... you can see it (again) like this: "You give players a manual and you get X customers. You give players an AI instructor that is always behind them if needed... you get Y customers. Find out if Y is bigger than X and by how much... if is an order of magnitude or so... you need this yesterday." Maybe I didn't cover the whole subject as it should. I will let others chip in and maybe a better image will result. Also I hope it was not already suggested ad nauseam... Also I hope it's already in the works behind curtains. Cheers

This option is super great. However I think the selection of a dynamic slot should present the map also at first and if player wants to start selecting by map first then the aircraft ability to do so should exist. Sometimes you need to choose more depending on situation on ground than airframe. Like when front moves or airframes become unavailable.

Can it have bad side effects that registry setting? Thanks.
-
I did the mission today and everything went smooth. Not a single freeze... I even finished the mission. Yey. In HWInfo64 I had the same limitations regarding power to GPU but no problems. null
-
Hey thanks for reply. About your recommendations. The Intel GPU is disabled. Since the card it's a 4080 it goes without saying it's in the 16x slot otherwise it would not play anything and also will burst into flames ... mainly it wouldn't fit anywhere else even if I would be so silly to try because the PSU is right under the Mainboard and 4080 "needs" 4 pci slots width wise.. Also the power cord is well sited (I triple checked since it's a custom connector and I wouldn't want to have it melting on me... I checked the temps on it by hand also several times. And I have it insight (when not in VR) because the case is just in front of mouse area and is transparent with red lights in it. SO I am confident it's OK. The PSU it's not a real monster but it's almost OK... a Be quiet! BN310 Straight Power 11 Platinum of 1200W. But! I did some... testing. As I said with that registry setting the game/mission doesn't crash anymore but has those stutters however after playing once again the mission for an hour and so (I died so I will go to sleep lol) But also after seeing an update to the Pico Connect Streamer and doing some starts of the mission with it I noticed in that streamer (normally I use Virtual Desktop) I don't have stutters... And so I remembered that Virtual desktop has that "Boost Game Priority" option so I disabled it and poof... stutters are gone... at least after just starting the mission but it used to be a stutter fest all the time especially if I press F2 and switch planes and camera jumps all over the map... Nothing. All smooth...38fps but Smooth and with "Boost game priority ON I don't have more FPS I think... need more checking but I think is the same. So that boost of game priority is not good as I think it boosts only one thread or something and then there is a problem with syncing in DCS mind. I will do more testing tomorrow maybe if I still have some time. Also I am running HWinfo64 in the back so here is a shot with what it recorded in mins maxes and averages for values that I am usually interested. I placed some red arrows on interesting parts. You can see Power is an issu but most probably just some rare spikes. Probably on those freezes. I will see tomorrow if that goes away with "Boost priority OFF". Thanks again for support!

Mission is stock: F-4E_Single_Marianas_Paradise Lost - 1 - Covey 41.miz and the registry trick is that one where you add some values to delay to 60 seconds wait until an app is considered it crashed. It's one of the suggestions of the threads linked above iirc.
-
I did the registry trick and the mission didn't crashed anymore but it has a ton of stutters. It must be something in the missions also that makes the game crash, I don't think is the UPS etc... Possible the multi-threading of DCS to be still in it's infancy because these horrendous locks and stutters appear only in Multi-Threading mode. However MT gives overall better performance.

OK, I did. Thanks

Just want to chime in without opening another thread about crashes. My game also freezes then crashes constantly while in Phantom. I always send the reports by automatic reports sending feature after crash. Should I post something in here also? Logs etc? Most of the times crashes are in heavier maps than Caucasus. On Caucasus if I have just the F4 I don't think it crashes ever. Most of the times on Mariana map I can't even take off. I don't think I managed to take off once in default F4 missions "Paradise Lost". So must be either too much sudden load on the system (that works without other issues in other games like MSFS). The system is a bit tuned up but not overclocked. When I say tuned up I am referring to stuff like: No E Cores on CPU activated in BIOS (I5 13600K), Core Isolation off. HAGS On, Game mode Off, Nvidia Low Latency set to to Ultra. Also I am playing only in VR though Virtual Desktop that needs to "Boost Game Priority" by increasing Priority of the game exe I think. I am not sure if the crashes are not related with the radar as it seems more stutters are when is on and also last time it crashed was few seconds after turning the pilot radar screen on. I was recording at that moment and this is how last seconds looked. crash47.mp4 dcs.log-20240616-000303.zip dcs.log-20240615-000127.zip dcs.log-20240614-232225.zip

I stand corrected, it seems all variants had folding wings. They look sweet in that picture .
-
Why you feel the need to tell others what to ask for? Do you think the animator of the eyes is responsible for performance of the code? Study level Flight simming is a niche within a niche. We are in it together.
-
I don't think the E has folding wings. It's not the naval version. You can land on carriers but take off is not allowed (unless you land there first in which case you take off from the back of the ship without catapult assistance). As for the RAT.... does it have one?

I know for sure that there are pilots that can't accept a 1st person pilot body in VR because of the sensation they are sitting in the lap of another MAN! This while other men play Skyrim VR as woman caracter "with mods" with zero stress. To each his own...
-
Very good choice!! I like that mod too even if imperfect... a lot of dedication went there too! I like that we will not have to make a choice and I am sure that everything can be polished better this way!

I was kind of chuckling at your comment thinking how narrow, close to your face and directed towards you are those mirrors in the jet so comparing them kind of with some barber shop mirrors seemed a bit of a stretch but then I thought... wait a minute... are we supposed to be seeing our selves in those mirrors after all? Being so narrow I would say they are meant to aid in spotting movements around the canopy in the back of the plane... triggering an alarm in the brain if something was sneaking in the 6 of the plane or/and aiding at communicating with the RIO. So maybe they need (also) to be adjusted so they reflect more what they are supposed to reflect rather than the pilot? I need to jump back to the plane and see exactly how it looks

Should we understand that now the two Ka-52 mods that are WIP are united?

Thank you for your reply! I was worrying for Jester, I thought it might had suffered an anevrism or something . On a serious note I thing such call outs are useful for Jester also but not repeated like in this bug. Also... maybe later or for a possible fs2024 version if would be useful that Jester and the Instructor be "merged" with the help of some AI. You know... transform the whole learning experience into something more alive... like talking with a veteran pilot that can go from explaining every nut and bolt on the plane to telling stories about how he fought with it in Vietnam etc. Just... inject the whole "lore" and F4 manuals into ChatGPT and see what comes out .
-
I am confused now too . It's true that I am doing mostly (for now) the training missions and... the guy in the back... jester I suppose now as instructor is continuously complaining about AoA and Gs and ground being too low (I swear he is gaslighting me ) . It wouldn't be a problem if it wouldn't be so robotical. And when I say this I mean: I pull some AoA he says I should "watch the AoA"... I release the stick... immediately he says "it's fine"... I pull again... he says same thing to "Watch the AoA"... release stick... "Now it's fine". And he does this ad nauseam. And when I do a combo of Going low then a pull up of some Gs and high AoA... you can imagine the chatter in the cockpit .
-
The worse for me are the repeated callouts on AoA, G, altitude... "Watch the AoA... AoA is fine"... "Watch the AoA... AoA is fine"... "Watch the AoA... AoA is fine"...."Watch the AoA... AoA is fine". at infinitum... same for Gs etc. I wonder how it was considered... OK for launch such things . A way to tell him all is OK and stop calling those like stopping him from ejecting would be nice.
-
I like most the comments that start with "I don't understand why x" - they are so self explanatory.
-
To be fair I had the impression Jester 2.0 would actually have some more smart features already... I find him actually worse than 1.0 in some aspects... like repeating callouts about the Gs, AoA and altitude like a dumb robot answering machine makes the "new" things he can say actually worse immersion wise. For sure some AI ChatGPT like powers would serve him better.
