  1. Maybe I'm biased, but I detected a left leaning theme throughout the test.
  2. That's why I said set buttons 7 - 12 as modifiers, that way you never have to move your hands from their positions. People tend to poo poo the 3D pro, but actually you could potentially control every single switch in cockpit with it without ever taking your hands off of it. Edit: I remembered the formula (and the function on my calculator). With buttons 7-12 set as modifiers (for 63 different combinations), the total number of mappable functions on the 3D pro is 882 without ever taking your hands off the stick.
  3. You need to remember that you can set any button to act as a modifier and that you can use multiple modifiers. So you could set all six buttons on the base of your 3D pro. I can't remember the maths, and I'm not sitting down writing out tables, but if you use all six base buttons as modifiers and used no, single, double and triple modifiers, you'd have 42 triggers, 42 8-way hats and 210 buttons, for a total of 588 mappable functions.
  4. Mr Burns, don't forget that saws don't cut perfectly in half and you will lose a millimetre here and there. Do they cut with a band saw or a circular saw?
  5. Set all 6 buttons on the base as modifiers and use the buttons on the stick for functions, this gives you 30 buttons, 6 triggers and 6 8 way hats, for a total of 84 mappable functions before you factor in multiple modifiers and keyboard modifiers. As for what they should be mapped to, thats up to personal preference and what you find intuitive. The X52 IS worth it (although try find one second hand, they are a bit pricey), especially for BS thanks to it's soft spring, but be aware that programming the rotaries and slider to do something is a pain in the arse.

    Combat-Helo

I want to know if this game will support stand alone single play.
  7. Lol, the advice you just gave me, I've seen before and it stumped me then. I know windows needs a reinstall (it won't accept the SP1 update), do you think that's the problem? W7 64bit with an AOC e2239Fwt EDIT: That was the problem, I'd forgotten that I'd disabled it while tweaking. Thanks.
  8. I think the shavings are normal over time, but maybe not so soon. That lack of grease is a problem though, I'd take it back and get a replacement.
  9. Sorry Loz, I don't quite understand. What exactly do I type into the run window? Windows doesn't recognise the command "Calibrate".
  10. How did you get the touch screen to work Loz? I can't seem to get mine to work on the correct screen unless the touch screen is set as my primary monitor.
  11. DO WANT! A little bit pricey even here in the UK but this would definitely save me a lot of trouble. My only concern is that it mounts things a bit too low. I'm seriously considering getting a pair since I have such a high desk and it saves me having to completely design a simpit/replacement desk.
  12. It is possible with the X52 profile software, but I can't remember how to do it. I think there was some silly nuance where certain switches, radials, etc would only be recognised differently for each mode if they were set to function differently (e.g. I think the mouse nub would have to be set as a mouse in one mode, a hat in another and as bands in the third). I always had problems with the software, it used to cause random inputs and cause windows to flicker.
  13. IIRC, DCS sees the flaps control on the warthog throttle as two buttons (up and down if you will), I know that this is how the actual switch works on the thrustmaster throttle (checked in the game controller settings). So you could doo this with a simple three position switch and just not wire up the middle position.
  14. Do those drivers work for any touchscreen?
  15. Would it really kill the frame rate to just put a big primitive collision box around copse of trees?
  16. Already had, version 20. Everything works, including the slew button, except for the slew axes.
  17. I have this same problem with my touch screen, currently I use ultramon to save different monitor configs to different profiles, so I can have my touch screen set as my primary monitor for flight sims and then just use it a a normal non touch screen for normal use as a secondary monitor. Unfortunately the only methods I've seen to fix the issue are useless, since I don't even have those options to me for some reason. (sorry, can't find the sites that had the instructions)
  18. Is it weird having to push it at a different angle than the plane's orientation?
  19. I wish I'd bought mine new. I bought mine second hand from ebay, and it had a broken slew hat. Two days later I saw the stick on amazon for £30 more (with free delivery) than I paid for mine (after deliver costs). I managed to get a £30 refund from the seller, but I'm gutted. Now I've got to pay to get it shipped and repaired.
  20. How'd you get the twist in the stick pitbldr? Or did you just rotate the entire mount?
  21. I've got the book, it is indeed very interesting. I love reading these kind of books, other good ones are Apache by Ed Macy, Hellfire by Ed Macy, Apache Dawn by Damien Lewis and Joint Force Harrier by Commander Ade Orchard.
  22. Staff for cockpits? I don't know if I could even find a place for them to sit in a one seater, let alone pay their wages. Cool finds though.
  23. That setup is probably worth considerably (at least 15 times) more than my car.
  24. I'd prefer a TIE fighter.:P
  25. Aren't most aircraft "pushed back" into the hanger?
