  1. So it's not a case of those missiles causing catastrophic damage to the tires, just unnecessary damage/wear?
  2. The track clip really needs to be that close? I would have thought that the closer you are the more likely you are to move out of it's FOV.
  3. I also have severely restricted data limits. 15GB and 10GB on 2 3g contracts. I skip any update over 1GB and just re torrent the main files on a hidden phone at work using wifi.
  4. Has anyone ever tried to mount a VKB cobra M5 defender stick on a sidewinder 2 FFB base? And can anyone with a cobra tell me the diameter of the plastic stick the grip is mounted on?
  5. 2nd that, would like to see your modified detent SDsc0rch.
  6. Are there many bugs and instabilities left to fix, sith?
  7. I finally got back in the A-10 last night. One thing I did notice was that with a touchscreen, if I press one of the OSBs, it gets clicked several times. Also it still has the bug where if you hold down a button and slide your finger off (or with a mouse), it stays pressed and you get the MFCD key stuck error message.
  8. I'm at the point where I don't even uncage it anymore. If I want to do level flight I use the VVI and bank and slip indicator.
  9. Couldn't he just set the SPI with the TGP, set the HUD as SOI and then china hat aft long? Or would that also remove the SPI. I get that it's probably better to use a mark point, but I'm wondering if this is possible. EDIT: Just tested this, forgot that CHAL slave all sensors to SPI, not the TGP to the current SOI.
  10. Yeah, that would be cool if it was affordable, but given the price of the crosswinds, I'm not much hopeful.
  11. I think it's backspace. I've never used it, but I remember there being something in the control bindings that sounds like it does what you want.
  12. Loving the collective. What flap stays did you use and is there any particular reason you routed the switch cables externally rather than down the pipe?
  13. I've been getting better. It seems the video I watched was quite old, so I assume it was before the PFM. I've been watching some of the more recent ralfidude videos and it doesn't seem much different to what I'm doing (although his are noticeably smoother). I've been putting the threshold at about 3 degree on the ladder and then putting the VVI on it and landing (is that too steep on touchdown?), I'm usually not paying attention to the AOA at that point and instead focusing on trying to raise the nose without taking off again and also not letting my nose go above 15 degrees.
  14. I find it's best if you keep your speed a little higher and gently "push" your gear onto the tarmac in the last couple of feet and then keep "pushing" as you roll.
  15. I've been practising landings in the F-15 but I always find I run out of runway if I don't touchdown (at about 170kts) near enough right on the threshold and aerobrake at >10 degree all the way down to about 80kts, which is how I thought it was supposed to be done. I've just watched a formation landing video by simis g however and noticed he did very little aerobraking. I can only assume he is using his toe brakes to do it. My questions are: At what speed can you put on the brakes? How should I be aerobraking/braking? Can you do both at the same time?
  16. Most people use curves just to give them finer control at smaller deflections. I tend to use a curvature of about 20 on the stick axis and 15 on the rudder.
  17. I can't say for certain, but I think it's probably the forward trim that is mostly responsible here. Basically when you land the momentum of your vertical velocity downwards is is acting on the centre of gravity behind the main gear and forcing the tail down (basically the wheels stop descending but the rest of the plane keeps going), you then use forward stick to counter the tail dropping. I suspect that the forward trim is just making that easier for you. I could well be wrong though.
  18. No, you can make do with the twist function on your stick for now. If you have money to spend on accesories, you'll get more bang for your buck with track ir.
  19. You don't have to run the beta, all the modules can either be downloaded from the website or can be installed from the main menu in the sim. Don't bother installing any modules you don't own as it won't let you play until you either enter the product key or uninstall them.
  20. Depends on if you want high fidelity or not. If yes, get the MiG-21; if no, get flaming cliffs.
  21. The reason for this is that the off positions aren't switches and don't send a command to the computer, the way around this is to go into the input files (e.g. E:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\MIG-21bis\Input\MiG-21\joystick) and either modify or create new functions that send commands to the on both the down AND up states of a switch (sadly how you do this differs between each module). For example, here is a custom key command that allows you to use either a momentary switch or an on/off toggle for the MiG-21 airbrakes (found in the MiG-21Bis forum): --Alternate Airbrakes {down=device_commands.Airbrakes,up=device_commands.Airbrakes,cockpit_device_id=devices.AIRBRAKE,value_down=1.0,value_up=0.0,name='Alternate Airbrakes On',category='Flight Controls'},Here are some key commands I've created that allow me to use my warthog's idle throttle positions to turn my engines on/off in FC3 aircraft the same way it works for the A-10C: {down = iCommandLeftEngineStop, up = iCommandLeftEngineStart, name = _('Engine Left Idle Detent'), category = _('Systems ALT')}, {down = iCommandRightEngineStop, up = iCommandRightEngineStart, name = _('Engine Right Idle Detent'), category = _('Systems ALT')},I modified the base joystick binding for these in E:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Config\Input\Aircrafts.
  22. It's not even a decision, the answer is TrackIR. You can get by with pretty much any joystick, even a Logitech extreme 3D pro (if I've worked this out correctly, by making the 6 base buttons as shift keys and using combinations of them, you can map a total of 590 functions to the stick), but TIR adds so much to the actual experience that you'll wonder how you ever did without it.
  23. I just assumed it was going to be the A+ which as I understand it was later renamed the B.
  24. I can wait (a little bit) for the rest, but I'm really hyped for DCS2.
  25. Why not use two stepper motors either side of a gear?
