Public inquiry. What is your PC video card?
mhe replied to Chizh's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
GTX 680 4GB, 2 of them in SLI, overclocked and watercooled -
Why wait, these arcticles are already popping up, even if they're just teasing future tech a bit: http://www.roadtovr.com/two-reasons-buy-new-gaming-rig-oculus-rift-cv-1-release-date-consumer-version/

Can this projection surface also be used for home cinema purposes? Because the daylight picture quality seems amazing and I have always wanted a beamer in my living room, but the daylight picture quality was a huge turnoff for me so far.

nVidia 337.50 (Mantle Killer) Driver released
mhe replied to SkateZilla's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks a lot guys! Don't have the time to test it at the moment, but I'm glad there are some performance benefits I can look forward to! -
nVidia 337.50 (Mantle Killer) Driver released
mhe replied to SkateZilla's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Is it really confirmed that the performance increase is only for the 700 series? I mainly ask because the 600 and 700 series mostly consist of similar chips. A GTX 770 is basically a rebranded GTX 680, both run on a GK104 GPU, albeit different revisions. But the performance difference is minimal. So does have nVidia the new benefits locked down to the cards calling themselves 7xx in their device IDs? -
Love the seat! Perhaps I can come and try it sometime? :D I could bring my Rift with me and we could try how immersive it is when combined. Impressive work! How long did it take you and what software do you run that thing on?

It has just been announced that Michael Abrash has joined Oculus. The all-star team is complete now. First Atman Binstock, now him. The VR luminaries from all over the world seem to gather there to do something that will change the world as we know it.

While I felt incredibly let down at first, having slept over it, I think this might actually be a good thing in the long run. Let the Facebook people have their VR Second Life social thing. As long as we can use the hardware for our purposes without getting bombarded with ads while flying/gaming, it doesn't matter to us, or does it? Sure, having a Rift is way less hardcore if World & Dog has one, but I think our use cases will be severly more extreme than those of people who just use it as a social media device. VR is a technology for many applications, not just gaming and simming. So let the rest of the world in on it. VR must become a huge market so we get the best tech at affordable prices. Competition will work in our favor. If VR becomes huge but Oculus/Facebook hardware sucks for gaming, it is just a matter of time for a decent competitor to fill that gap.

DCS World User Mods "WHAT IF" SCREENSHOT AND VIDEO THREAD!!!!
mhe replied to NRG-Vampire's topic in Screenshots and Videos
That grey camo Viper is sexy as hell... -
Ist die Karte nur eingebaut worden oder wurde auch ein Treiber installiert? Eventuell mal probieren die Monitor Config auf eine andere zu stellen und dann wieder auf den gewünschten Wert zurückzustellen.

the non existent communication is getting rather annoying
mhe replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
The recent update sounded as if the RRG guys were quite frustrated at the moment, but they seem to keep pushing, so thumbs up to them! -
Actually Gösser Radler if anything, not that much of a beer guy. ;) Damn, so tempting... Haven't flown Katanas for quite some time, only lots of Cessna experience. Would be an interesting road trip, but I have to work on sunday and saturday is already fully booked. :(

Sure, no problem! I have a DK1 already, so you can try that one out too if you want.

Ordered as well! I already tried the previous 1080p prototype, but I can't wait to try the low persistence stuff!

If I remember correctly, there was an SDK bundled on the last disc of the gold edition of FSX. Or was it acceleration? The point being, if it is bundled with a sim you have PAID for, it can still be a free addon. Nobody will develop content for a sim he doesn't own, it would make testing impossible. And there is X-Plane. It contains several development tools, although I haven't spent much time with them. This. Although the Pro license is relatively expensive for the average home user. It's not every day one spends 500 bucks on sim software. For that kind of money I can get a Sketchup Pro license. This. So much this. If some of the community created content is to be included into the official build, then quality control is in order of course. But the availability of bad freeware doesn't detract from the quality of the good freeware. If we already have a modular installer and the module management menus, we just might as well give development SDKs away for free or at least affordable prices so everyone and have ED do integration into the sim. Think of it like the app store, but for DCS. Also, people will pay for excellent content for their sim, no matter who created it. This business model would enable ED to generate some revenue by harnessing the community power because they are the publisher so to speak. And since the community is very critical, we can be sure that the bad addons will get downvoted in that "module store" fairly quickly and reliably.

I have a background in technology and engineering, so I don't doubt my ability to do such a thing, but I am still very impressed by what you achieved, especially given the materials and pieces you used. The end product compared to the resources used to achieve it is the thing that makes this special for me. :)

Endless activation requests by UH-1H Huey module.
mhe replied to eV_Vgen's topic in Payment and Activation
Have you perhaps not reinstalled everything and just put new hardware under your existing config? I had that problem once with all my modules after upgrading my rig. Basically you stop DCS and delete the activation stuff of the affected aircraft from the registry. I'm not at home at the moment, so I can't tell you exactly which is the key in question, but have a look at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Eagle Dynamics/ if it exists. If it doesn't, please give me some time until I can look it up on my machine. -
Impressive, especially the speed and the materials used to achieve it. Makes me want to build one myself right now, thanks for the pictures!

So, if I get the full SDK for backing the WW2 Kickstarter, then I'm happy and all I need is the NDA! Looking forward to it. But I also hope that at some later point, the SDK will become available to all. The massive amount of content available for other simulators due to the availability of the free tools is testament to what a community can do. Of course there is a lot of junk in the freeware area, but there are many gems that I wouldn't want to miss. I also remember that ED said something about allowing 3rd parties to do a lot more than just aircraft. Looking forward to this becoming a reality...

Nice one, looking forward to more progress on your pit!

This is such a dirty minimalistic hack, it is a work of art. I love people achieving great things with just some stuff they have lying around. Surely the sign of a great tinkerer's mind.
-
Yes. But will they give us the tools so we can do exactly that? Not only rebuild the Caucasus region, but perhaps add some other parts of the world as a community project? An easy to use terrain editor (think Outerra) AND the mission editor. Imagine the possibilities... Also, a constant flow of community-generated content might give ED some breathing room because users are busy generating and flying new maps etc. Hell, they might even consider giving the content creators some benefits like store credit when they deliver outstanding work. Some stuff takes long because ED don't have that many people to work on things. So let some of the work be done by the community. We love that stuff. Just imagine the increase in features and quality if they incorporated many of the great mods already available into the official build AND give them some user-friendly tools so basically everybody can support DCS with content.

Welcome to the world of serious hardcore simming! :) On the MFCDs: If you have a place to put it and have the cash to get it, try to get a 1080p touchscreen and treat yourself to some Helios goodness, you can control practically everything without ever touching mouse or keyboard. Oh, and a Warthog HOTAS makes life much easier in the A-10C, wouldn't want to fly without it!

Yes, everything should move. You do have to have Helios installed in DCS (which you can do via the Profile Editor). The dials not moving tells me that you might have not installed Helios into DCS properly. It modifies the Export LUA in your home directory. The only known bugs and shortcomings I can think of at the moment are: ILS Power Button is inverted UFC NVG Brightness control is inverted Frequency dials for VHF and UHF don't show the proper numbers
