Funny how I just talked with my son this morning about him wanting to try a driving sim. Perfect timing. PM me your PP if the wheel is still available

How do you like the projected picture, Grem ? I tested benq1085 (borrowed from friend for a weekend ) . immersion is awesone even with one proj, but i just couldn't get over how washed out the image looked. Matter of compromise I guess.

Looks very serious. How much per board does add up to?

Bundle will work. But By daisy chain i meant that common you connect com terminal of first switch to com terminal of the second, then to third and so on . At the end you have just one lead from last switch so nothing to bundle and tape. Picture below doesn't really meet your requirement of "good looking" but that's how I did on my pre laser paneling attempt: all the wires are terminated (solderwd) at pin headers on the perfboard. From there connected to input electronic board of choice via ribbon cable. . For most of new panels I intend to have arduino mini right there on board. But again there are so many ways to wire. ADD: and since you don't need to be in compliance with any industry Standart your only requirement is function + whatever level of aesthetics you desire.

Don't stress to much about gauge. Its important when you hooking up high amp device like stove or AC. But for signalling any gauge will do without danger of fire. I used a lot of phone and network cables, that's #22. Or old IDE HDD cables , those are even finer. Just daisy chain the common terminal of the switches between each other before connecting to ground with one lead.

Yes. subscribed to it as well. It's great that there is another way to comfortably configure viewports . But Unless I missed it I didn't hear the author had intensions to make it into full instrumentation client. Even if he does he still doesn't own ED's gauge 3d art and will need to come up with his own which is less then ideal. Chances are very good that folks that "provide interfaces" are well aware of DCS existance. Again though , they don't own ED's gauge 3d assets. What I did though is PMed Andrey Chizh with link to this thread. Not holding my breath, but hope he will chime in at some point

I'm using the usual female header connectors with housings. I dont own a molex crimper so i solder wires . Auction with dual connector shown , but you can get them in many configurations. http://m.ebay.com/itm/131431474365 http://m.ebay.com/itm/131431474365

thanks cich, G700s on its way to me. was thinking to go for another deathadder, but i'm to mad at my mouse at the moment to reward razer with my money

Honda produces vehicles, why would they make more work for themself developing brand accessories for their vehicles? They don't have to be conserned with that . But they are for a reason - as a for profit organization they interested to make profit, directly from sales off accesories and indirectly by adding value to their main product. Gauge accessory software is not nessesery limited to few pit builders. It will be quite a value add. Imagine ordinary desktop keyboard-joystick flyer running this on extra laptop he has. Perhaps for some strange reason this is not something that of interest to you, but you surely could see others use something like that. And first and foremost ED themself on their demo pit. Helios as good as it is has a lot of room for improvement.

GrayHill 26th series IMHO, the 16 detent model. Or a 10 position 5X sieries switches, will require much more pins. Grayhills can cost quite more then inexpencive though. If cost is the main requirement perhaps cheap China encoders can be used with .25 to .125 inch shaft reducers. Not sure if such reducers are sold anywhere , but I was planning to turn some for own use. Absolute encoders will require more input pins then incremental. Everything else (bcd, binary or incremental) should not matter as it will be accounted in software .

Im not sure what is your point . other Sims providong less acomodation for pit building doesn't mean this one can't. it will not require a lot of effort to write a desktop network client that will listen to already existing export (known to developer first hand) and reuse already existing 3d assets. Packaged and sold as expansion module I'm sure I'm not the only one who will buy it ( And BTW, aside of several freeware FSX has(or had) project magenta - quite elaborate software gauge and glass cockpit suite. (For a hefty price). It also has custom gauge building suites. So enough options to interface to FSX do exist.

Over 100$ for a mouse? Ouch . It better last forever.

Major Announcement: New software to to connect panels to DCS
agrasyuk replied to FSFIan's topic in Home Cockpits
That is some good stuff John. -
At the moment gauges is basically stream of data from export lua script + viewports of items like rwr. Unless I missed I didn't hear anything on that. Since W2 deals mostly with graphics I hope that viewport extraction will not stay broken for to long after release. Lua side should not change, but there is always things that can go from bad to worse... The question i would ask Matt is about plans for instrumentation client that listens to that export.Lua , alike helios, made by ED. the level of technical difficulty is trivial compared to making a full fledged module. I'm not really sure why one does not yet exist. Team clearly should see a need for one - last I seen their demonstration pit in Moscow suburbia office uses a somewhat crude solution for MIP (not to offend the forum member who made it to the best of his abilities ) on second monitor. Hopefully we will see Helios2 eventually.

Thanks for the reply. I bet those key switches really do feel nice and the extended flat surface will be really helpful to keep the switch cap feeling right when pressed. this looks like a terrific start. And IMO it is much further ahead then "haven't got very far yet". I'm sure you have quite significant time in drawing all those items.

Major Announcement: New software to to connect panels to DCS
agrasyuk replied to FSFIan's topic in Home Cockpits
Warhog will probably chime in with more details, but for now have a look at this - http://m.aliexpress.com/item/837031970.html?tracelog=storedetail2mobilesitedetail 360 motor with optical 0 sensor. -
I'm on my second deathadder . It is comfortable enough, but I question it's reliability . The very first one had LMB completely shot within the initial warrantly. The free replacement lasted few years but thwn developed the nasty double click issue. Bought the newer deathadder model and now after few years here is that LMB issue again - sporadic mouse releases. Annoying as hell when when suddenly dropping files into wrong folders, loosing Excell ranges etc. I don't know, maybe few years of normal use is a good figure, is a good mouse when it clicks. But the thing with new online driver is complete killer for me. Thinking of logitec, will be following this thread

Looking very good! what are those switches you used for CDU?

Your experience with Thrustmaster MFD Cougar?
agrasyuk replied to Ermintrude's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Had no issues with the MFD frames. Will have to agree with others - didn't find them at all exciting before i put monitor behind them -
http://www.ebay.com/itm/261931116397?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Analog ARC-164 (UHF radio) control units. not used in our sim as is, but can be a good source for knobs (the digital one uses same knobs it seems aside of Vol) and rotarys (strange absolute encoders)+ i think the cover. in any case a good demo on how mil grade equipment is constructed. as with all mil equipment they will ship only within US (sorry guys) i received my pair :D ADD: i did ask for a cleaner one, but boy did it give me a struggle getting opened. even with wd40 the set screws in knobs did not want to turn. what was supposed to be 1/16th allen in my cheap harbor freight set was actually less and slipped immediately. custom grinded hex did the job. I will be looking at set of high quality precision allens to have for future.

Thrustmaster MFD Cougar Pack - LCD Home Edition
agrasyuk replied to Speedbird696's topic in Thrustmaster
I would think the author should be able to make a couple more of these on his machine. -
McMaster Carr perhaps and a rattle can of paint? 9.06$ (+snh) per pack of 50. Item 91737A210
