While it might be true for rotary engravers ( no hands on experience there) the non "stick" fonts as drawn above are usable with laser machines .

Finally got to setup my G27 properly. It's much more comfortable to play when wheel securely fastened to the surface and chair doesn't roll away on hard pedal presses. it was some time ago that i bought Assetto Corsa , only now got it installed . for past few days i been busy burning out transmission boxes in that poor little fiat

After navy warship schoolgirls and "I am a rifle" schoolgirls , Jet fighter schoolgirls seems very logical next step :)

Looks like tremendous effort. I can't give you useful feedback as I'm only making my first steps in inventor, but they look very good. Will download and try to play around with these sometime over weekend.

DM, you can put your speculations aside. The beef i have with you is not some panels, it’s one thing only - you talking down on members here. and I will have that same beef next time when it happens. As helpful as you might see yourself it doesn't give you that right. since you brought up my LDG, well, you reply then was exactly same as with my font yesterday "your height is incorrect, but you don't know the correct one, muhhahaha!". Well, I guess it's not entirely unhelpful as this makes me aware that I still need to keep searching for improvement (in case of LDG I later received a picture of real panel with a ruler next to it so I was able to correct the 3% deviation in height I had). just how much respectful those kind of replies are everyone will judge by themselves. the reason I seem to feel that I have ability to judge your work content is simple - everyone and anyone can make a judgment on whether particular item offered is worthy of their money. any one can say "I have the best merchandise", your proven ability to cast epoxy into silicone mold doesn't automatically translate into precise plans. and I didn't get to see any of your CAD work until today. CAD indeed looks very nice, but interesting thing though, looking at your cmsp drawing I can't help but to notice square edges to the lettering. looking at the pictures of actual device I see those edges rounded due to being rotary engraved. so the question is, DM are you sure you used *Blasphemy!* 100% correct font? PS, you don't need to be shy about your resources. aside of dedication that you obviously have it also would take at least some amount of inside to get something like your trainer before its auctioned to public. remember my question to you "was I not able to find that info because I’m lacking the ability to search the net"? this is not an accusation and I’m not saying you disclosed anything classified, but you do have a collection of proprietary info that in one instance for example normally only rockwell collins would know. so the fact is we are not on a level playing field, which is fine, but still does not give you a right to talk members down. John, I don't entirely agree with your statement. I will say and will be happy to hear both nice and not nice things as long as they are said in respectful manner. interestingly enough I had a short pm conversation about sharing of info and compensation entitlement with another member here. you shared your drawings free of charge with me, I shared the drawings that I’m not too ashamed to show off with you (and got valuable feedback on my CAD work). as you said win-win. but the fact is you didn't have to and I didn't have to, we don't have obligations to each other. I will never told anyone choosing to not disclose particular info. I will however react to disrespect to others. Clay, Gorton font looks close , but I don't think it will get "DM approved" certification

last we PMed was about me expressing interest joining your private builder Skype session, which I didn't qualify for since you seen me as commercial endevour (oh so many stuff I sold these past 2 years, lol). While you are in your right to have your own criteria for attendies, I'm not sure what advices, you had in mind saying the above. I'm not denying your right for compensation for anything. If you feel you entitled to get compensated for time you spent looking for existing font someone else made, well you entitled to feel that way. I am however entitled to have opinion on what does and what doesnt calls for compensation , what is of interest to me and what isn't. and act accordingly. Knowing first hand what it takes to make drawings in autocad it is something that qualifies for compensation (pending content obviously). Since you have an inside ,closer to the industry then anyone here and have a good refference on hand I'm obviously interested in any plans you might have come up with. This topic came up last March, then again sometime in summer when you complained about someone undisclosed plagiarizing on your work , and now you saying you have dxf files for panels. So any chance to peak at your work? As i said a Screenshot picture. Will show caliber of work you do without jeopardizing you to much. Well the thing is having reference on hand, while certainly can help , does not automatically translate into product of "holy grail" quality level. So the "holy grailiness" still needs to get proven.

I don't remember showing this off before, not sure what is the common mistake others make, I went of the picture of actual device. The arrow is engraved on the panel that is facing down  RTN button frame is also not shown. screen module shown is indeed for dot matrix led displays (has matching PCB as well). If it gets there i will make a module to house readily available 1602 display as well for those who can't afford the matrix LEDs. Correct font... Well , you know very well that I asked about it, in Lynx thread the last time. You never replied, Lynx replied that he is not authorized to share this info. Hence I conclude that this is a guarded trade secret. Which is really fine by me, manufacturers not often openly share their trade secrets that could jeopardize their competitive edge. But with this in mind your suggestion to use correct font reads like "use the correct font, BUT you don't know which one ! Muhahaha!" I asked. The one thing I'm not going to do is beg. Nor i'm going to cancel any of my projects when missing less then critical info. MS font squshed ~20% vertically seems close enough Best regards

;) Alas, I'm not offering that or any other panel at the moment. Racing to complete my deck before the cold sets in. ADD: You have dxf panel drawings available? I'd love to see those. A screenshot maybe?

Seeking advice on new set-up
agrasyuk replied to Johnny Dioxin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
1. How would you export mfcd viewport to a tablet? 2. Not a fan of touchscreen. 3. That's the route I took on my very old build. -

something tells me their mk.2 has very little chance

It is in a way boring, no adrenalin of a race, but yet it is very fun in a completely different way. Can't really explain. :music_whistling: I do have quite a few hours clocked in the eurotruck sim , yet to get the expansion maps. find it very playable even with just keyboard. Tuning in to inet-radio station of country I'm driving through really sets the mood. It is understandable of its not your cup of tea, but judjing by steam rating I'm not alone in this madness.

Slaw Device vs. Saitek Rudder comparison
agrasyuk replied to some1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Let me try to answer this. I used Slaw's cam load pedals for couple weeks before damper arrived. The center is not a sharp deten, it does taper of a bit, creating tiny area of near 0 resistance. With all ballbearing mechanics it feels like super sensitive center. even though input levels from that area are almost negligible in sim it still has a very funny tactile feedback at one's feet. The damper is a cheap motorcycle steering one (i would never put one anywhere near my bike ). when installed, while it does hamper precision somewhat, it does remove that strange behavior near the center. To me the damper add-on for slaw's pedals does make sense. I do find the lightest setting to stiff however - will be looking into modding the damper As far as realism, I only got to fly once (old beechcraft sundowner) . during that hour I was mostly busy being in shock so I might be remembering things wrong , but I did get to fight choppy Chicago lakefront side winds. IMO Slaw's kit feels closer to real thing with damper installed then without. ADD: And I don't think it will be surprising to anyone when I say slaws kit feels much much closer to real thing (at least to me) then combatp pedals from saitek. Instead of "oh! So definetly Buy them if you have chance!" Il just say I really wish Slaw gets more time to work and make more of these excellent simming devices -
The answer is simple: for the same reason you didn't try your hands at it, same as I didn't try - as much as we would want to make a good F16 module both me and you lack the capacity. Before donating all you could spare for anything on kickstaterter i would strongly advise weighting whether the entity promising stuff has the capacity to deliver on the promise. Look at the WWII world kickstarter for example. Even though It was clear that Ilya incapable to deliver people still donated hoping for the best. Luckily (or unluckily) there was ED to foot all the promises. Otherwise that would have ended up as quite a failure

Yes, magnetic hold switch has momentary action when not energized, has as much click as usual switches . Yes, I touched the real one (turret stabilization ON switch in M60 Patton is magnetic hold)
-
Nice work. What did you decide to with the circuitry that detects hand on the grip (ir led and photo transistor)?
-
Well , it is my old CDU (capacitor discharge unit :) ) that I salvaged the darlingtons from. Peco solenoids will provide above sufficient force for actuation and there is a very nice and simple recepie for reliable diacharge unit that can easily be driven from arduino. but they will not provide retention - the non stable position hold spring is part of the turnout itself, not part of the motor so that part is to be engineered. Also I'm getting a bit lost on the goal. Is it the magnetic hold action that OP wants to simulate where the switch will have momentary action unless lock signal is present? Or is it commanding switch position in general? Peco solenoid based solution (or C breaker for that matter) will not be able to simulate situation where non energized switches just spring back? As to the aspect of "knowledge from gaming" as strange as it may sound I don't think that playing dcs game falls into "gaming" category really. :)

Military service is not very safe profession and not in all countries service is voluntary. But good for you to have choice in the matter, and have others that are ready to climb inside instead of you should the need arise.
-
Interesting concept tekkx. To work reliably this will need a signal from the game however . Is that going to be solved by adding the 4th argument that gadrock suggested in dcs-bios thread? I was deliberating on similar to yours idea - holding the switch lever against the spring. However coming from model railroad world I though about using servos as actuation force. Think about a circle with slot mounted on the servo axis. Push the switch in and servo rotates to lock the lever forward, on "release" servo rotates to let the spring push the lever into the slot. Unlike solenoid servo can be driven directly and will not consume power when holding. The weak point here is the situation where you manually want to disengage the switch. In your case you will need to push against energized solenoid. Position hold can be springed, but that's adds complexity to the mechanism. Hence instead of hold I was thinking more along the lines of latch and that brought me to circuit breakers. ADD: As far as dimensions of panels there is a very good guide with DZUS centered dimensions circulating here. It came up in other builder thread not so long ago. Bit hard to find it from mobile, will look and repost here once home. Unless someone else beats me to it :)

Those Honeywell ET switches are costly. 75$ is actually the lowest that I've seen it and I'm not aware of any budget alternative for mag hold. Tripple digit price is much more common. To simulate the self hold action I experimented quite successfully with airpax circuit breakers (they look like toggles). The idea was to intercept the ON to OFF transition in game, send momentary pulse to one of the arduino outputs to open power transistor cascade and create an over current situation that will trip the physical switch. I got breakers that are 1A rated, low enough to not create sparks. Separate power supply was used, darlington transistors withstand about 7Amp momentarily, circuit was designed to deliver 3A pulse. The thing is those breakers are not that cheap either, and availability is not stable at all (I think they no longer manufactured). There are some challenges there though. Double pole breakers are to wide and will not fit standard 5.75" width SAS panel. The single pole ones will have more complex wiring as there is a need to accommodate both signalling and over current on one line , in my version 2 I used relays to isolate the signalling .

indeed, that is some very nice workmanship. even tough panel is non prototypical those little details do bring it to life. there is only one thing missing... ;)

фото приложенны well, since lexusmuse bumped my thread i'll share/rant what i spent time on these past two month. our not so long chicago summer is perfect moment to complete outdoor projects, otherwise digging in snow is not fun. our deck began deteriorating and it was about time to build new one instead the rotting cutoff we had. start was awesome: i studied the requirements, designed, drew and submitted my first ever "architectural" drawing. our village doesn't require pro sealed plans for deck jobs and I managed to pass and get approved by village engineer first try without rejects. yey! i planned on doing the woodwork, but foundation and concrete decided to contract. big mistake. first team never returned after day one, no big loss, only paid them for that day. the second team looked much more serious. and the consequences are also much more serious... 4 weeks lost, foundation peer holes not dug deep enough, placed incorrectly even though i measured and marked. how on earth can you miss big X on ground... and skipped altogether. i have no idea why they called for inspection twice - both obviously failed. and all that topped off by stolen tools. so this week i've been digging for couple hours every evening preparing for tommorow's inspection number 3... now all is passing for sure, so weekend i hopefully wil be pouring the concrete. and i'm preparing for court , those buggers are getting sued as they decided that they don't need to reimburse me for all the mess. will cost them much more. moral of the story is the usual - want it done right then do it YOURSELF. i start to doubt such thing as professionals do exist in nature. pictures under spoiler:

If you dont need backlight - i had good result (i think) with my cheap UFC and photo printed letters. Drew a picture with white lettering on gray background and sent to wallgreens 20min photo print. Took 3 attempts to find the exact shade of grey at which the compression artifacts are not noticeable and edges of letters stay sharp. Then cut and stuck them on regular keyboard keycaps. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1413505&postcount=12 If you do want backlit buttons then the only option as I see it is engrave on transparent and then painted cap http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2317634&postcount=16
