  1. Can I see a picture of how you filed the plastic gardena piece WH grip screws onto? IIRC you will need to remove material so it can mate. Will try to locate my gardena piece to verify and snap a pic. ADD: the adapter you linked too seems right, both that i have look the same and thread perfectly. However to make the thread grab you will need to file depressions in the inner ring . did you do that already? should look something like this:
  2. I must be missing something then. Which product is it?
  3. Well , its hard to tell at this point. VKB, Slaw and others have results on the table, in whatever quantitys they can fulfill and quality/price point they can pull of. Quality level of this Croatian guy can only be measured when his product materializes. it does indeed sound like he is aiming for top tier however. Eventually we will see, but so far yes, we read many words.
  4. while proper foam cut packing will assure product is not damaged en-route the item pictured proved to packed adequately to cross the Atlantic. if you set your sights on surpassing the quality level achieved by this manufacturer, excellent news. but that will take a lot as the item is superb (if you use MFGs as example its considerably ahead),and making prettier box would not be your main concern. without laser capable cutting serious gauge metal i don't see how you can accomplish better product then above, 3d printing will not be of great help here.
  5. Yes, painting removed some of the "plumber bob" feel , but wasn't enough to my taste Navy , I can understand space being a premium and all. And not everyone needs a full tub pit. Still you can build something neater then the "roger sloppy aviation" contraption. There were several guys who augmented their office chairs with arms to hold HOTAS. For long time before I had room for dedicated pit I had special control organizer shelf. Think regular desk with pull out sides and lifting shelfes (on full extension drawer slides) that held saitek 52 controls. I lost pictures of that, sorry. I stepped up with contraption pictured below. Pretty much a regular desk, but instead of office chair I had a frame with car seat mounted. Stick was mounted on removable plate so it wasn't in way when working. After eventually extending the stick and mounting it closer that was a very nice setup for flying
  6. I did build a pvc pipe based structure in past. Startes with center console to hold MIP and monitor, but quickly realized its not even close to what I wanted out of simpit. Stability wise it was almost sufficient , but there is virtually no way to make it look anywhere close to presentable. So I never processed further with the pvc. Up to your carpentry skills and situation, maybe a stretch, but I'd advise stepping it up a bit and going for something more substantial. Places like home depot will cut lumber and sheet material for you. My pvc contraption :
  7. That would be a very welcome addition. Will this hack work only for VHF though (since you mention animated knobs of UHF)?
  8. I wouldn't call the asking price for these expensive. For a small batch niche periferal it is sertanly not. The fact the MFGs are not made out of metal I guess I could pass by, but the WWII warbird pedal style is not inspiring me whatsoever.
  9. Океанская карта. Остров как раз хороших габаритов для лезернеков опробовать свои силы в изготовлении карт.
  10. One of the SSD drives I have is EVO, nothing bad to say so far. Size does not have to match, as long as you have enough room on your new drive to house the OS and needed program data ( obviously). I would like to extend the original question though since its on topic of ssds - is there observable a benefit to have OS and DCS loaded on separate drives?
  11. what is going to be huge pain is down the road hunting for that one (or few) malfunctioning solder-less connection when it will inevitably come apart. soldering is by far one of the easiest skills to learn in this hobby IMHO, it's comes down to just muscle memory. it sounds like you will be doing more electronics and soldering iron happens to be pretty much the central tool of the topic. makes sense to spend effort to improve with it. make sure your tools are clean, use flux and good flux-core solder, pre-tin your wires, keep notice of not overheating components and almost nothing can go wrong. its up to you if you want to attach things with ducktape, but don't expect to hear it is a very good solution.
  12. the cheapest way to accomplish what you ask for is to rip out controller board from some old joystick you have laying around (or that is laying on a shelf of nearest thrift store). otherwise 5$ for the zero is hard to beat, go with it. you will have to do all the programming however. look into DCS-BIOS sticky thread on this board, it talks mostly about arduino though, but I used it with the PI.
  13. Or better yet spend the time and learn to solder. It will not take much effort to reach acceptable quality of connections, probably within minutes of your first session. Good soldering iron will not set you back to much either. One of the best "value for the money" tools I ever got is a used Weller soldering station. Not the digital one and othing fancy. But oh sooo good, absolutely love working with it. It is a very sensible investment if you plan to stick to this hobby.
  14. I think John went for a color match with his welding station and other lab equipment :)
  15. neat. workplace organization is the item that always on a back burner for me. i did rig old PC PSU with banana plugs before, but never went ahead to finalize into comfortable device.
  17. Dxf files don't carry information of what unit of measure was used. Why did you assume it was in inches?
  18. I don't think there is such thing as ms font in single strike. there was discussion of cnc router guys olhere earlier this week as far technique they use to properly engrave. ClayM should know more them me about it
  19. Looks functional. That is a good start.
  20. very clean. how do those kind of mods affect headset battery life?
  21. for some logiteck3d joystick is sufficient - it is undeniably better then keyboard to fly with (and i used myself it for quite few years). yet i would think the TMWH is on most virtiual pilot's wishlists if not already owned despite quite steeper price premium. same with pedals. if you want improvement and can afford then why not improve?
  22. Same sentiment about wwii style pedals - not interested. Problem with slaw's is by far not the price, but rather availability. He can't build them fast enough.
  23. I've seen this image in my dreams quite often, finally i can photograph and share it. not all smooth however. backlight is still not very even, (camera's lower dynamic range realy exaggerates this thoguh). lower row came out poorly due to unregulated assist air that moved the buttond during the process. using lasermax also brings back the problem with removed material sticking into the engravings. couldn't remove out of some of the letters even after multiple rounds of soap bath in ultrasonic cleaner, will need to touch up. all in all few need to be redone, most is very usable, some are excelent.waiting few days for a full cure and then will spray the letters with dullcoat lacquer.
  24. I use transparent colored acrylic. The LEDs in picture are green as well though.
  25. i'm sure you had your reasons. whether keep the original poly-lines or explode and delete is really up to you, go for what suits your process best. i can't imagine anyone expects a 100% ready solution without a need of some modifications. its already a very good reference that you have going. for your consideration (this is not a request) - an improvement that i think would be a step forward is merging all the individual files for same panel into one multi-layer file. thanks again
