Wind direction - Briefing and ME - still a mess

Wow, your arguments are incredible. I edited the original post just to add clarifications and every single time I only added text and marked it as "edit". Pathetic excuse to accuse me of being impolite. You sir must have a really thin skin if you found my post aggressive. Having said that, I repeat I didn't want this thread to become another discussion about the topic at hand and just a way to collect data (you should know that if you were so affected by my post) and I certainly won't turn it into a personal discussion with you.

This is quite amusing :) I've tried the mission twice and both times my wingman has attacked the awacs we are supposed to escort. It happens after I give the other to attack bandits. Even if I order him to rejoin formation he won't do that until the A-50 is down! What's going on here, we have a traitor! :helpsmilie: ;)

How is it to do camapaigns in this map area ?
cuervo111 replied to jfri's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
I've enjoyed several user missions in this map and also the Every Man a Tiger mini campaign. I've flown about half the F15C Red Flag campaign and I can really recommend it! I'm actually looking forward to fly other Red flag campaigns and the new Mirage one. I think it's a worthy addition to DCS. -
HOTAS long presses not working since today's update
cuervo111 replied to cuervo111's topic in Bugs and Problems
Please disregard or delete the thread. It must have been some strange issue at my end, it has been fine since that day. No idea what happened though... -
Hi all, I am not intending to create any more controversy regarding the cockpit dirt and visibility issues, nor I am encouraging further discussion about it. It has been discussed to death and it seems like we all had formed our opinion about it's ok we disagree. However I think it'd be useful for everyone to really have a better idea of the community's views about this. We might be surprised by the results. Instead of arguing ad nauseum it's probably better to get some data about how the community feels about this. It might also help us all, customers and devs, make informed decisions about this and similar issues in the future. EDIT 4: The glare issue has been solved in the beta branch EDIT 3: Please keep in mind there are mods that remove the canopy dirt but there is currently no solution for the sun glare issue. EDIT 2: If you are not sure what's the sun glare issue take a look at these screenshots. EDIT 1: There is no create option choice in the poll because I think 99% of us would vote for that and we would end up not learning anything. Most people are happy with being give options after all. Imagine you have the option in the sim, what would you choose?

MiG-21 used to be my favorite ride... can't stand it now
cuervo111 replied to streakeagle's topic in MiG-21Bis
I am too disappointed about this whole issue. Unfortunately the mods don't fix the sun reflection issue that some people have mentioned here and I reported here to no avail. This is I think an even bigger issue than the dirt on the cockpit because there is just nothing you can do to work around it. Good luck landing into a sunset like this! Until today I just didn't like these things but today I am really surprised about the devs response that I find completely unprofessional. I will certainly think twice about supporting them in the future again, like so many others here. I'm not going to beat a dead horse. The devs like it this way and they have a right to do it this way. We disagree, fine. But I can't get to understand this from the point of view of their business. The basis of a business is providing customers with a product they are happy about so that you create a good relationship. Regarding the "artistic view": we are not buying a work of art, we are buying a functional software product and right now functionality is limited by an artistic decision. The customers have expressed their concern and we all know the reply we got. I guess in the future we will vote with our wallets. It's a real shame though, Rudel and co are clearly highly talented and it's beyond me how such a simple issue has gone this far. -
F-86F - Every Man a Tiger mini Campaign

Thanks for your candid reply. I understand. I will give it another try to see how it goes and I'll make sure to try your 21 mission too. Looks cool! -
F-86F - Every Man a Tiger mini Campaign
cuervo111 replied to catt42's topic in User Created Missions General
I posted this on the download page but this might be a better place to give it visibility. Thanks catt42! :) " Thanks so much for this great campaign! I find it really immersive. However I can't progress from M02. After the first engagement (the 3000' one) the leader orders to rejoin and go back to Mt Irish. It starts to orbit at a really low speed (about 120kt) . I fly close to him but nothing happens. Am I missing something? Also a small suggestion for M01. As I understand it, the prison is the visual reference for Nixon, however the trigger zone does not include it. I find this quite confusing and that lead me to a failed mission. Maybe the zone should be a bit bigger? " -
I can't change SOI! Am I the only one? It was fine this week. EDIT: Actually now it does... seems to be failing intermitently. I tried with the keyboard with the same results

Nice posts there! I would certainly love to see more like that. I'm also starting to think that having a public issue tracker would be good ... but I guess that's another topic :)

Having said that, I'm actually looking forward to practice my very lacking helicopter skills around the poor cows with the Huey :pilotfly:

Fair point David. I know the guys responsible for the engine are likely to be different from the art guys. However, it is my understanding that many of the lighting issues are actually due to models and textures not being yet updated to work with the new engine. There are several mentions of it by ED and in fact progress has been made by them for example in the A-10C and by 3rd party modules like the Mig21. I understand materials and textures need to change in order to react correctly to the new PBR lighting system. Thus I think this is mostly an art department issue right now. Of course, I'm probably wrong but I'd love ED to at least acknowledge some of the bugs that have been there for months/years. And even if this was the project of someone new, I think many will agree there are lots of more important models to be updated/improved. For example the golf course northwest of Vegas is an important navigation reference point and is even mentioned in some missions and tbh it looks just quite bad. I'm not whining, I don't expect perfection and I understand things take time (I've been using ED sims since Flanker 2.0) but sometimes I feel they really need to improve communication about this kind of thing instead of ignoring all these questions from the community and suddenly saying "Look! we have cows".

I love those little touches that improve immersion or make one smile, but this time I am with the guys think this should be way down in the priority list. Come on guys, seriously, how did this thing ended up being prioritized for development when we've had big lighting issues for months: exterior lights making the cockpit super bright, lights that don't illuminate units, cotton white clouds in the middle of the night with no moon, canopies visible through fog (this one has been there for years and still hasn't been fixed after many graphic engine updates). Maybe the marketing value of this ("wow, look at that, it's so detailed! it even has cows and they even move their tail!") was deemed more important that fixing important bugs that are not so immediately visible. As a loyal customer, I'm disappointed.

Now that we are starting to see regular updates, what can we expect about this kind of thing (see attached image)? The borders sometimes are totally straight lines, and a forest texture is right next to a farm without any kind of transition. Also forests look like they have been cut and pasted from high altitude. There are no smooth transitions and the border lines are very artificial. I love the map but this kind of thing ruins the immersion sometimes. All the maps have some issues like this but Normandy suffers from it the most.

Clouds are bright during night conditions.
cuervo111 replied to Jowen G. Bruère-Dawson's topic in Object Bugs
This is still wrong. During bad weather and when totally dark, the top of the clouds are bright white. They are appropiately dark below the cloud cover. Any news on fixes? It seems so out of place! -
[REPORTED]What happens to CDU divert page in 2.5???
cuervo111 replied to nessuno0505's topic in Bugs and Problems
Any news about this? It's still happening! -
Rain on canopy, raindrop reflections are reversed.
cuervo111 replied to Knock-Knock's topic in General Bugs
+1 I was going to report this too. -
EDIT: I can confirm this has now been fixed in the beta branch! Would have been nice to get some feedback from the devs though :) Before I explain the issue I'd like to say I'm really glad with the progress and the new cockpit looks fantastic. Cograts Rudel! My issue is with the cockpit glare. I was flying the first mission of the modified campaign and the sun is seen as a huge plain white circle in the sky... even behind the heavy rainy clouds! This doesn't happen with other aircraft or with exterior views. This looks really unnatural to me. What's worse, it can make landing into a sunset practically impossible, since you are blinded! I attach some screenshots showing the issue. The images show the issue in the 21 cockpit and also in external view and the F-5 cockpit for comparison.

There is something wrong with lighting at night. I'm attaching a screenshot of Kutaisi at night. There are several aircraft (Mig21 and F-5) as well as some soldiers on the tarmac and the appear pitch black. The ground however is illuminated by the airport lights above them.
