Improving utilisation of training aircraft
defeatist99 replied to tom1502's topic in DCS: L-39 Albatros
I understand why people don't use them.... they could learn to fly in the thing though. That was all I meant. -
It takes a lot of practice. I think it's a little bit harder than the harrier. Anyways, I actually stopped by for something else. As you know I'm replaying the campaign and I found another small issue. Not really a bug per se but a tweak. On mission 07: Hotel 5 when artemes gives you the lat/long coordinates after converting the MGRS they seem spoken kind of fast. Usually that's not a problem because you have the subtitles. Except the subtitles disappeared immediately. It was so fast that me sitting there waiting with pen and paper couldn't write it down fast enough. I had to find a youtube video of someone playing the mission to get the coordinates without restarting the mission. Last time I went through the mission I thought they were there for longer. I was hoping you might check how long the subtitle is supposed to stay on screen. Also, on the same mission my wingman never left the hangar. Idk if that was an ED bug or something but I thought I would mention it. Thanks a bunch. I look forward to getting the Red Flag campaign when I can. Keep up the good work.

Mirage 2000 outturning F-18 at low speed- is that accurate?
defeatist99 replied to Aries144's topic in M-2000
It's slow speeds is one of it's advantages. It's low wing loading and delta configuration mean a lot of lift especially at higher angles of attack. At combat weight it's got a good TWR so it can sit at low speeds as long as you have fuel. It's really only limited by the FBW under 100kts. There isn't a jet in the sim I've seen beat it in a flat scissor. Which is basically a game of who can fly slower. If your comfortable living dangerously at treetop level doing ~100kts plus or minus, it's pretty easy to drag the energy fighters down and force an overshoot if you are defending. -
Won't be longer then xmas holidays. Probably before that. There isn't any dogfighter in the sim it can't win against. And it will eat the F/A-18 for lunch in a gun fight.

It's always going to show any radar that is hitting your aircraft. If it's telling you that you are being locked by a friendly that means a friendly has you locked up. It's even a technique used to enhance situational awareness and prevent blue on blue. You can lock up a radar contact and say "raygun" (sometimes followed by a bullseye position) on comms and if someone replies "buddyspike" you have a friendly locked up and don't shoot them.

Improving utilisation of training aircraft
defeatist99 replied to tom1502's topic in DCS: L-39 Albatros
It was a half joke but I was speaking about generally. If those planes are so bad to train with why do they train with them IRL? Agreed though that DCS training is rare. I just said that in reply to The trainers in DCS are perfectly capable for use as trainers for DCS. I wish more people would use them instead of FC3 and actually learn how to pilot an aircraft. It would really help them out when they progress. -
Can confirm I have max settings and wakes at distance are very pixelated.

The manuals state that 8-10 degrees AOA is for formation detachment not landing itself. Manuals have it at 10-12 degrees AOA for all break turns(specifically 10), decelerating transitions, and approaches. Touchdown for slow landings and conventional landings is 12 degrees AOA. Just pointing that out. Still a great post.

Sorry I didn't see the new info from razbam. I apologize for that. I don't know why they would allow enforcement of it on the mirage but not the harrier. Honestly though it really isn't going to make a difference. Is it making a huge difference now? Because you don't have to do it now and it's not server breaking. You are making a big deal out of not much, because when the rest of the startup is done for the harrier it's going to take just as long. The INS would be started by the time you finish starting the aircraft anyway. Just like it wouldn't matter if you didn't have to align the A-10. You could also say the same thing about every single FC3 aircraft. You don't have to go through any startup process at all. The turn around time for CAP is literally nothing. By your logic all FC3 aircraft should be banned too.
-
Trim and do your decelerating transition correctly and you will be fine. When you are in or near the hover it can take a very large stick movement to impart a small movement on the aircraft because you are using the RCS.
-
It's the same for the Stennis and the Tarawa. Both will be free to DCS without the need for the harrier or hornet.
-
Yeah haha, for realism I try to keep them on if I can. If you are carrying a centerline tank for air to air, once it's about empty you can put the FBW switch to air to air. The only problem it causes is some extra drag. Plus, it's nice to keep if you end up refueling and want the extra fuel.
-
Also, you generally don't want to drop a couple hundred lb fuel tank on some random civilians head if you don't have to.

Improving utilisation of training aircraft
defeatist99 replied to tom1502's topic in DCS: L-39 Albatros
I get the point, but some people want the full realistic learning experience. I would have loved to have someone teach me how to properly fly in a multicrew trainer before I learned the A-10C some years ago by just reading and crashing. Though I do think it would be nice if someone new to the game didn't also have to buy the aircraft. Having one person have the aircraft and the other being able to learn would probably bring more people in to HI-FI modules. -

If the trainers are so bad for training why does everyone use them for training? :noexpression: -
Enjoy it. It's an incredibly good dogfighter wvr.

Mirage 2000 outturning F-18 at low speed- is that accurate?
defeatist99 replied to Aries144's topic in M-2000
It is how it performs. The hornet has a higher thrust to weight ratio but it has more wing loading than the mirage. It's heavier than the mirage and has slightly less wing surface than the mirage. The mirage is very good at low speed/high alpha. The hornet should have a better sustained turn rate due to the better TWR and less drag at high AoA, but the mirage has an incredibly high instantaneous turn rate. Better than even an F-16 in certain regimes. The hornet also has better acceleration than the mirage but has a slower top speed. The mirage also has a better climb rate. The hornets real advantage is going to be avionics and ordinance. It's much more capable at BVR than the mirage and it will have the HMS and Aim-9X off boresight capability. Edit: I should have stated that the hornet has better acceleration and speed down low, but the mirage has significantly better acceleration at higher mach numbers. The mirage can also pull much more G than the hornet. -
Described functionality in current Beta vs. Initial release
defeatist99 replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in Resolved Bugs
I didn't mean that it was working 100% as it should in the real thing, just that it's accurate to use. It's working much better than ccrp is. -
You should. The A-10C is great. It's also complete and has been around a long time so all the tricks to it can be found. The others are still very incomplete.

How to change coalitions after mission is created?
defeatist99 replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in Mission Editor
There is a way to do it editing the mission files themselves but it's a fairly tedious task that usually requires a lot of enumeration. The mod would probably be easier. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=121373 This guide works to do it manually. -
All modules disabled after cancelled update - Why?
defeatist99 replied to EasyPC's topic in Installation Problems
You just need to log in after you download the update. That's the same message you get if you haven't been online in 3 days. -
I've got one I haven't used in forever. Couldn't you just use it as a controller and bind it that way? I feel like that would be easier.
-
It was nothing m8 literally took less than a minute to fix. I just wanted to test it and make sure it worked.
-
Yeah but I also changed the date because the magvar felt off and added 1kt winds so they would def pick the right runway. I attached the file if you need it. I tested it a couple times. It should work for you until baltic dragon gets back from holiday. If you ever need help with anything let me know I've got a decent amount of time in most of the aircraft. Lol the synthetic runway wasn't even at the airport let alone the wrong runway. Yeah you could just create one really easy. I'm actually going to see whats up with this mission though because I'm curious. If I can fix the mission I can get you a copy.
