How to find tpod target for CCRP without pitching down?
defeatist99 replied to madeiner's topic in AV-8B N/A
You mean slew the TGP down. Slaving the TGP means having it controlled by another sensor, in our case the DMT which can be slaved to the EHSD. There is a master sensor and a slave sensor. It's really easy to do that from miles out. Make target area a waypoint. Select correct waypoint. On your EHSD click Desg (bottom left osb). Slew TGP over the diamond on your hud. Until TGP slave is implemented that's the best we can do. -
OK, now we need a proper INS alignment procedure.

Just go open the manual and click INS. It's the first thing. Start engine. Set parking break. Open EHSD. Click Data. Click A/C. Input coordinates if required. Move INS switch to appropriate align setting. Wait till qual is 0.7 OK. Move INS switch to IFA. done. -
No. I don't think the slave function is operational. Point track needs fixing among a few other things.

Raindrops not working 29.08.2018 OB-Patch (SOLVED)
defeatist99 replied to Cytt0rak's topic in AV-8B N/A
Works fine for me. This isn't a relevant thread though. -
Beta. It was at dawn. It's about the same as it has been though but it's stupid that if you zoom in the scratches become giant. I wish they had them like they did on the mirage.

I was on last night. Still couldn't see the airport 5nm away if I zoomed in. It's absurd.

They are saying they do get them on the F/A-18 but not on the harrier. -

In Flight Refueling. Dying of frustration.
defeatist99 replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in AV-8B N/A
You are only supposed to use the AFC when getting to the tanker and setting up your switches. Turning tacan off, getting the fuel probe out, setting flaps, working radios. Once in formation you shouldn't be using it at all. -

If it is modeled it's absolutely minuscule. I pretty much guarantee it's not considering you can park right behind an aircraft taking off and it has no effect on you whatsoever. Also, you can fly trail directly in jet wash and have no issues either. -

Spend time flying formation. You need to practice that first. Spend like 20-30 minutes just flying formation near the contact position before even trying to tank. Work on your throttle. AAR really isn't that difficult in the harrier, in my opinion it's one of the easiest to tank with. Post contact it's really easy to keep in position. Ignore the tanker calling breakaway. It's broken. If you are having trouble refueling that slow with the flaps in cruise, try it with them in stol. Sorry to say it's you my friend. You just need practice. -
To add to this for WVR, the mirage is also a much better angle fighter than the F-16 at pretty much any altitude unless you are heavy and they aren't. It's got a couple degrees instantaneous per second over the F-16. Play for snapshots. If they go vertical extend at max climb to mitigate it's energy advantage. It's climb rate is better than an F-16's although the zoom will still be faster, but it eats energy. You should be able to fairly easily beat a 16 in a one circle fight or if you can drag him into the slow fight. If you find yourself on the defensive WVR I've had really good results with using a defensive spiral to drag them to the deck and forcing them into a flat scissor. There isn't a single fighter in DCS that can beat the mirage in a flat scissor.

If they were using max wet thrust I guess it's possible that EGR could ignite. I don't think you are supposed to use max thrust in reverse because of EGR. Couldn't say for sure though without seeing it.

Improving utilisation of training aircraft
defeatist99 replied to tom1502's topic in DCS: L-39 Albatros
I understand why people don't use them.... they could learn to fly in the thing though. That was all I meant. -
It takes a lot of practice. I think it's a little bit harder than the harrier. Anyways, I actually stopped by for something else. As you know I'm replaying the campaign and I found another small issue. Not really a bug per se but a tweak. On mission 07: Hotel 5 when artemes gives you the lat/long coordinates after converting the MGRS they seem spoken kind of fast. Usually that's not a problem because you have the subtitles. Except the subtitles disappeared immediately. It was so fast that me sitting there waiting with pen and paper couldn't write it down fast enough. I had to find a youtube video of someone playing the mission to get the coordinates without restarting the mission. Last time I went through the mission I thought they were there for longer. I was hoping you might check how long the subtitle is supposed to stay on screen. Also, on the same mission my wingman never left the hangar. Idk if that was an ED bug or something but I thought I would mention it. Thanks a bunch. I look forward to getting the Red Flag campaign when I can. Keep up the good work.

Mirage 2000 outturning F-18 at low speed- is that accurate?
defeatist99 replied to Aries144's topic in M-2000
It's slow speeds is one of it's advantages. It's low wing loading and delta configuration mean a lot of lift especially at higher angles of attack. At combat weight it's got a good TWR so it can sit at low speeds as long as you have fuel. It's really only limited by the FBW under 100kts. There isn't a jet in the sim I've seen beat it in a flat scissor. Which is basically a game of who can fly slower. If your comfortable living dangerously at treetop level doing ~100kts plus or minus, it's pretty easy to drag the energy fighters down and force an overshoot if you are defending. -
Won't be longer then xmas holidays. Probably before that. There isn't any dogfighter in the sim it can't win against. And it will eat the F/A-18 for lunch in a gun fight.

It's always going to show any radar that is hitting your aircraft. If it's telling you that you are being locked by a friendly that means a friendly has you locked up. It's even a technique used to enhance situational awareness and prevent blue on blue. You can lock up a radar contact and say "raygun" (sometimes followed by a bullseye position) on comms and if someone replies "buddyspike" you have a friendly locked up and don't shoot them.

Improving utilisation of training aircraft
defeatist99 replied to tom1502's topic in DCS: L-39 Albatros
It was a half joke but I was speaking about generally. If those planes are so bad to train with why do they train with them IRL? Agreed though that DCS training is rare. I just said that in reply to The trainers in DCS are perfectly capable for use as trainers for DCS. I wish more people would use them instead of FC3 and actually learn how to pilot an aircraft. It would really help them out when they progress. -
Can confirm I have max settings and wakes at distance are very pixelated.

The manuals state that 8-10 degrees AOA is for formation detachment not landing itself. Manuals have it at 10-12 degrees AOA for all break turns(specifically 10), decelerating transitions, and approaches. Touchdown for slow landings and conventional landings is 12 degrees AOA. Just pointing that out. Still a great post.

Sorry I didn't see the new info from razbam. I apologize for that. I don't know why they would allow enforcement of it on the mirage but not the harrier. Honestly though it really isn't going to make a difference. Is it making a huge difference now? Because you don't have to do it now and it's not server breaking. You are making a big deal out of not much, because when the rest of the startup is done for the harrier it's going to take just as long. The INS would be started by the time you finish starting the aircraft anyway. Just like it wouldn't matter if you didn't have to align the A-10. You could also say the same thing about every single FC3 aircraft. You don't have to go through any startup process at all. The turn around time for CAP is literally nothing. By your logic all FC3 aircraft should be banned too.
-
Trim and do your decelerating transition correctly and you will be fine. When you are in or near the hover it can take a very large stick movement to impart a small movement on the aircraft because you are using the RCS.
-
It's the same for the Stennis and the Tarawa. Both will be free to DCS without the need for the harrier or hornet.
-
Yeah haha, for realism I try to keep them on if I can. If you are carrying a centerline tank for air to air, once it's about empty you can put the FBW switch to air to air. The only problem it causes is some extra drag. Plus, it's nice to keep if you end up refueling and want the extra fuel.
