Is Flaming Cliffs 3 Officially out of Beta?
Shein replied to neroroxxx's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I'll consider FC3 out of beta when BVR missiles have an effective range longer than 8 miles... I'm DL'ing the patch now, can't wait to find out -
EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS VIDEO YES. I'm even excited to finally hear the russian bird have russian annunciations back! I can't wait. I do scale modeling too; I'm working on a 1/32 scale su-27 and I'm waiting to start the cockpit for 1.2.4, so I can use the beautiful new pit as a reference for the model!:thumbup::thumbup: Yep, the smoke has been overhauled too!!
-
Hey, that's still faster than 1.2.3 came out after the changelog was posted... I'm cool with it being next week!
-
Like I said, the missiles are broken for now. They're WIP. Currently, the bleed energy at an alarming rate and dont reach a high enough top speed.
-
That mission gave me a LOT of trouble as well. My advice is this: +1 to what everyone previous said, the missiles are broken and worthless outside of 10 nm. I But i will say this: the AWACS is the only target on your scope that doesn't have a jammer, and I've also seen one take 3 amraams and live. My advice is stay low, use your rwr rather than the flight plan to fly right towards the AWACS. Once you're inside 15 miles give em your whole payload, turn around and burn hard for friendly lines. That's how I did it. Also keep your eyes peeled for et's the Russian love to use em close in

I would suggest reading the manuals, IIRC the training missions were imported from FC2, and some things have changed. Also, if you'll allow me some shameless self promotion, if you'd love a variety of practice missions, check out my Su27 dissimilar air combat training, found here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=101282&highlight=dact

Didnt happen for me, but next time post a track no, editing campaign missions will not break a campaign. However, next update expect that mission to be reverted to the way it was.

Going inverted thwarts the notch tactic?! Admittedly, I don't understand the science or technicalities behind notching much... explain more?
-
you know what? now that i think about it all the times i lost lock, the target was below me... i didnt even think about being notched! i feel really stupid... it wont happen again!

Thanks for the info guys, but maybe there's something I'm missing. Here's some context. Him and I both are detecting each other from far off. We both close, I'll be in range first but I always wait til he shoots first, because a 120 at max range has no chance of hitting me (with the current state of the AFM). I'll wait til I'm in kinematic range to launch. This gets him about 40% of the time. When it doesn't the fight ends up pseudo-WVR, where we're about 15-10 miles apart and I'll frequently lose the lock. Now, I'm too close to work the BVR radar to find him, and too far for the CAC modes to work, and too far for the 73 to be effective. And he's in perfect range for a boresight slammer shot that gets me 75% of the time (especially if he's below me, I can't dive fast enough to beam it) Boresight with the ET would probably work wonders here, haven't tried it because (on the receiving end) it seems to miss an awful lot. So the question is, what is the best tactic at that intermediate BVR not quite WVR 15-10 miles? If I can hold out for a few seconds it goes WVR pretty quick and the 73 is very effective, but in those few seconds I have little to do to force him defensive and he usually gets a high energy slammer shot off at me.
-
So with missiles being in the state they're in, most BVR fights end up WVR pretty quickly. The amraam has this nice boresight mode, that can be quite a handful in close. Does the 27 have a means of firing ERs in close? I lose lock a lot WVR, and I am unable to find them. I've tried vertical scan mode, helmet mounted device mode, and boresight mode but they don't seem to want to lock the target. A lot of them default to the IRST as well. So should I just start using ET's instead? Against humans they're great but against AI the AI magically knows as soon as you launch one and pops flares right away.

1 sale a day has the HOTAS warthog for 379 free shipping! http://1saleaday.com/wireless/2960720/ its only for today though. Just thought I'd share, if any of you are on the fence about getting one now would be a good time to pull the trigger (no pun intended):music_whistling:

thats exactly what i was looking for. thanks!

Ok so i know what missile beaming is and how to do it, but im more interested in the science behind it. why is a radar unable to see you at beam position? i know its because there is no relative movement between you and the ground clutter to the radar, but shouldnt the altitude difference between you and the ground be enough for the radar to go on? a google search yielded nothing. Anybody know how it works more in depth?

Now did he limp back to base like that?! :megalol: I'm a civilian pilot IRL and I always thought the larger aircraft were rated to fly on 2, but not just 1... though seeing the numbers, I think you're right Ethereal. That's embarrassing! If I get another shot at him I'll give him every missile on my rails. And yeah it was an outboard engine that was left. If he had planned his driftdown properly I could see him gliding to an airbase with that one engine but I tend to think the adverse yaw and associate drag would make it tough for him. But I know, human factors aren't modeled... (not that I'm complaining)

Alright so I've done the awacs hunt mission (03 of bear trap campaign) about 20 times now. Most of those times, I got killed. The most recent time, I managed to get a shot at him. For good measure and because I was angry, I shot 2 amraams at him. They both hit, taking 3 of his engines off. I broke away and ran from his angry flanker buddies, and a mig29 also gave chase to me. I managed to kill the mig and the flankers gave up. I landed back at base and used the F2 view to see what happened to the A50. He was limping back to base on 1 engine, still on fire, but he was bleeding airspeed and altitude. I dry washed my hands, watching what I thought would be him bleeding airspeed until he stalled but no. He got all the way to an airport, slowed to 96 knots, climbed 300 feet for the glideslope, and landed safely. It was at this point I let out a string of curses the likes of which I didn't even know I had in me. not sure if this belongs in the bug section or not, but I see a few problems: 1. I know the warheads were changed in the most recent patch. But are they that weak? 2. I don't think an A-50 can fly on 1 engine. is degraded thrust modeled for aircraft that lose engines? 3. do larger aircraft have a more simplified airframe damage model? because I would think that if he lost 3 engines (I mean detached from the pylon lost) he would have some pretty severe airframe damage as well. What do you guys think? And laughs at my misfortune are also welcome.

Okay so I have to ask... Maybe I'm wrong, but weren't people happy with the performance of the missiles in FC2? so it begs the question... why do we not use those performance parameters? is it because of the missile AFM?
-
Wow awesome comparison. Thanks for that... yeah like I said, a 120C from 8 miles couldn't catch a mig-29... seems a little suspect. And yeah I remember specifically being told the lofting would be fixed months ago, in november... but I notice they still do that too
-
actually good observation, meant to mention that too. They are a lot smarter... they don't travel in a straight line and just try to beam, they react to low energy missiles and maneuver hard now... to great effect. But the missiles are definitely nerfed. One turn can defeat a R-27 it seems
-
1.2.3 is out. Missiles, all of them, appear to be incredibly nerfed. Inside of 8 miles I can't hit a hard turning target with an AIM-120C. To be fair, the russian missiles are also as nerfed... what do you guys think? I think a lot more fights are going to end up WVR these days
-
Just wanted to say, I really appreciate the work you guys have done, and more than anything I appreciate being kept in the loop with updates about how the update is coming!
-
wow really? admittedly, I never used it in-game, but reading up on it I was lead to believe it was on par with the amraam, maybe even better than the amraam (of course now we're getting into speculation)
-
was thinking the same thing... the 29 can use the r77, the su27 only has the 27er. the su27 is probably the most effective wvr, but beyond that, it really doesnt have a niche... not until dcs su27sm i still love it though ;)
-
pretty much the same idea with the su-27, that was just described to me. What I'd like to hear about, is what the R-77 can do for the situation, since that's on the AMRAAM's par and the mig 29 can employ it while the su27 cannot
-
Thanks frostie! the 27 has captured my heart as my favorite fixed wing aircraft... I haven't moved to online play yet, its still very new to me, but I'm learning! maybe one day i'll join the 51st!
