  1. wow... thank you all for the replies! I know I'm at a disadvantage but that's what makes it interesting to me! Though I won't lie I can't wait for dcs su27sm! i downed my first 15 charlie last night... any more tactics and info welcome
  2. Okay so all you rooskis out there... I'm trying to learn to BVR fight with the su-27. Usually what happens is this: I'm able to force my opponent (15 charlie) defensive with a 27ER, dodge his first AMRAAM, get off a second ER that he also manages to evade 90% of the time, and then by the time that happens I'm about 10 miles away, too far for an SRM shot, but too close for me to figure out how to work the russian radar fast enough to get another shot off. He recovers, fires another 120, and its game over at that range. So I have a few questions... 1. I think the reason I can't find him with radar that close is the altitude difference... I know how the russian radar works, and I understand how to control it but I don't know the tactics to controlling it... any good strategies to use with it? how do you do it? 2. what do you do if an amraam is fired at you 10 miles away? (besides eject ) 3. when I fire a second 27ER, it appears that the first one loses tracking... can I only guide 1 missile at a time? I know they're not fire and forget, but if its the same target can't they both be guided? 4. at about 10 miles away, is there a different HUD mode you use to acquire targets? HMD and vertical scan both didn't pick him up, but is there a quicker way then trying to work it in BVR mode? ANY input at all is appreciated, I'm almost completely new to the flanker. Спасибо!:pilotfly:
  3. Wow, I was actually going to ask the same thing. Thanks for this thread
  4. Fc3
  5. 26 missions made by me, similar to the f15 dact found in fc2 great for those of you excited for the new su27 model who want to learn the aircraft:thumbup: enjoy:joystick: http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/267864/
  6. lol you beat me to it! thanks for posting, enjoy everyone. criticism and suggestions welcome
  7. Its all done guys! And uploaded to the dcs website, just have to wait for it to be approved.... Soon as it is I'll post a link... Stand by
  8. It's a hobby of mine. I LOVE using DCS for reference pictures, that being said I'm currently building a 1/48 scale Su-27... ...and I'm waiting for the updated model to use as a reference for the camo!!! Any one else do scale modeling? pics welcome!
  9. alright so here's the lineup! (one mission for each plane) (another set for versus 2 planes) BVR sequence: F-4 (aim-120b) F-14 (aim-54) Mirage (MICA-AR/IR) F-15c (aim-120c) WVR (heaters) sequence: F-4 F-14 F-15c Mirage F-18c F-16c Guns Only: F-4 (had to make sure this one even had a gun; some F-4's didnt!!) F-14 F-15 F-18 F-16 Mirage And then maybe a couple challenge missiles, like V1 F-15 WVR with aim-120's loaded up, if you're a glutton for punishment... What do you guys think? additions? change the order? I'm trying to keep the difficulty scaled in each category...
  10. Funny you mention it Fanboy, I do the same thing! although its not always foolproof; I've seen a mig29a beat a su27 wvr with guns only, and I'm pretty sure the su-27 is supposed to be superior. Thank you everyone for your feedback, I'll definitely make this and post a link here! Though I'll probably wait for the next DCS patch (any day now) because if I make it sooner, the new skins with the next patch will probably break the skins for the SU-27. I had it happen with a georgian oil war modified campaign I made a while back, and now if you try to run it the KA-50's all have the NO SKIN skin on. Also, I'll post a list for the aircraft I'm going to use in order when I've fleshed it out
  11. DACT stands for dissimilar air combat training, if you were unaware. So I was thinking of putting together a series of missions for the Su-27, similar to the F-15's DACT. I have 2 questions for everyone: 1. anyone be interested in this? 2. (here's the kicker) how would you rate the western jets in DCSW from easiest to hardest in terms of WVR and BVR? The F15 DACT followed a logical progression, of older generation fighters to new and faster fighters. However I have NO IDEA who would come out on top BVR or WVR between an F-16 and F-18. So please, discuss! let me know your opinions!
  12. we need to believe F18c is the next DCS module. DONT TAKE THIS AWAY FROM US!! :D
  13. Don't mean to threadjack, but I have problems with the GBU-12 missing at night. Is there something I'm doing wrong? No problems hitting targets during the day
  14. I remember learning this the hard way... Took on a group of soldiers with 5.56 rifles thinking I'd be a god among men, laughing as their puny small arms rounds bounce harmlessly off my mighty KA-50 30 seconds later I had one engine shut down, the other spooling down to 25%, and I just barely managed to crash land collapsing the gear... ...right in the middle of the guys I was shooting at. Talk about awkward... Though as an aside, I do remember reading a LONG time ago, about how Kamov was bragging that you could shoot the KA-50 ANYWHERE with a 7.62 round and not harm it, long as it was at least 100 yards away. Could be soviet propaganda, though
  15. is a known bug. It seems the 20mm on the F-15 and the 30mm on the mig and su hardly dent enemies but shred you when they hit you with it. This was known since day 1, but has gone unfixed with the subsequent patches. Anyone know if it'll be fixed in 1.2.3?
  16. YOU'RE KILLING ME SMALLS!!!!!:thumbup::thumbup: But in all seriousness it took every ounce of self control to not jump up and down on my computer chair with excitement. I couldn't of picked a better list of aircraft myself!!!!
  17. Coulda been a dud missile. Happens more often than you think... especially back in the day. (Side note: it depresses me that 1999 is "back in the day" to me) Course, we could model that too... a % error that a missile won't track, or track properly.
  18. Some good info: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=90463& I remember having that problem too. My advice is still use the autohover, but trim in some rudder and cyclic into the wind to keep it steady. Remember, the werewolf's autopilot only has 20% control authority and that include the autohover! strong winds can overpower it. Good luck, hope this helps!
  19. wow really...why is that? i managed a head on shot on the flanker no problem... i have a track if youd like to see, it was a good kill! but you clearly know more about aim-9's than i do, can you elaborate?
  20. Alright awesome, I look forward to that And I look forward to doing the DACT over and over with each new iteration! Talk about replayability....:D:D:D
  21. Let me preface this by saying I read all 27 pages of this thread. Took me half a day. That being said, it was a half a day well spent :joystick: I understand missiles wayyy better than I ever did before. but +1 to what pilotasso said, the AIM-9's are worthless in FC3. I did the entire DACT for the F-15 (taken from FC2 into FC3) and the heaters only stages were insane. Most of the time I ran out of them and had to use guns. And a WVR slow turn battle is not where you want to be in an F-15 against 27's or 29's. At a head on aspect, I was literally unable to achieve a lock against Mig-29's for whatever reason, no matter how close we got while the russians had no problem popping out R-70 after R-70 at me. (it did work against other aircraft, including su-27's although not all the time) I know the seeker needs to see things like afterburners to have a good lock but still, the missile should have been able to see *something* the closer we got... but they'd fly by every time with nothing. then again I've heard thats what the AIM-9 is like in real life; kind of mediocre. So bottom line is, is that realistic? or am I just doing something wrong? :book:
  22. You know DCS world checks for an update only once a day, right? If you REALLY wanna be OCD about checking for the updates, make sure you click the "check for updates" selection in the start menu. Or if you REALLY REALLY want to be OCD about it, create a shortcut to it on the desktop!
  23. You know its ironic, I started out playing FC2 and I learned and loved the F-15. I was overjoyed to see the attention it got in FC3, but the flanker caught my eye... and I've since fallen in love with that aircraft, and now that I have it got a new model and it's getting a new cockpit and I couldn't be happier!
  24. so it has been agreed that the lofting of the aim120 is detrimental to the performance of the missile, with the peformance of the missile being adjusted with the next patch, will lofting be disabled? or will the adjustments make lofting useful?
