Control lag when online on a server
Highwayman-Ed replied to Highwayman-Ed's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I've also noted another strange behavior in that when I set the trim in offline mode, the stick's center position is moved to where it was when the trim was set, but in Multiplayer it isn't and only seems to set a portion of that movement. Fox example, when setting the initial take off trim I pulled the stick back and to the left to the approximate hover area and hit the force trim, but it only set the x co-ordinate and not the y! I'm going to clean it out and perform a fresh installation of 1.2.4 later and see how that works. -
Control lag when online on a server
Highwayman-Ed replied to Highwayman-Ed's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I've tested this on a few servers now and have the same result regardless of the ping rate and FPS with a saved version of the servers mission as well, although that's not the same in this example. Here are a couple of videos that I recorded to show the contrast in behaviors. Here is the Single Player offline flight around an airfield: ASdOKVAN7Sg Single player flight is very smooth, control inputs are constant but subtle and you can see that it is easy to maintain controlled flight. Here is the Multiplayer Server online flight around an airfield: sVg5-WrLcAs In multiplayer the flight is not smooth and you can see from the control inputs that I'm constantly stirring the pot to try and maintain controlled flight, and the control inputs seem to be much more exaggerated and laggy and it makes it almost impossible to anticipate the helicopters drift. I'm hoping that it is a configuration issue that I have or something that has come up through patch to patch as I've come up through DCS World versions. On the same server at the weekend, other players in the squadron didn't have the same problems. -
Control lag when online on a server
Highwayman-Ed replied to Highwayman-Ed's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
So my FPS offline was around 22, but on the server with only a 165 ping tonight the FPS was 35. It seems that my control movements are more exaggerated when online than in single player. I'll investigate further. -
Control lag when online on a server

I'll check tonight, but visually the FPS was good with no stuttering or noticeable difference. -
I'm having a ball with the Huey, and can hold a steady hover happily in single player, but things change when going out onto the internet for a multi-player session. I have found that when I go online to a server and fly exactly the same mission that I have been flying offline, there is a slight delay in the control inputs and this makes hovering a lot more difficult to near impossible in some situations. Ping to the server was around 250ms on a 20Mbps down, 1.5Mbps up connection, and flying other DCS modules didn't seem to suffer from the problem.

Honestly, I love it the way it is, don't change anything... I'm flying with a Warthog HOTAS and have spent the last couple of hours hover taxiing around Kobeleti, Batumi and the deck of the Carl Vinson. It will take practice, patience and a lot of attention to detail, but once you learn how to control her as slow speed, you'll be ready for all of the wonderful scenarios the Mission Designers dream up.

Yep +1 here, loving the handling characteristics, reminds me of my younger years :)

I'm on the pre-order list for an email code to download as soon as it's out :)

Thanks for the reply. ED, suggest removing the ability to add additional aircraft to a flight when this criteria is in effect.

When placing a group of aircraft in mission that are uncontrolled, if you place transport aircraft such as AN-26 or IL-76 only the first aircraft of the group is placed in game. For example, if you create a flight of 4 fighter aircraft to populate an airfield such as Su-27's or even Su-25's and allocate a parking slot to each, they will appear as placed. If you change them to transport aircraft, only the first aircraft in the group will appear when you start the mission. Helicopters also function normally. See here for the placement of a group of 4 x AN-26's in the editor See here on the same screen for the placement of 2 x Su-25's in the editor See here in game that only 1 x AN-26 is present, but both Su-25's are there

Honestly, I haven't flow my A-10 in Multiplayer since DCS A-10C 1.10 introduced the crashes and they've never really gotten much better. It's a real shame.

So there are lots of threads about 3rd party developers developing aircraft that they have either made for other sims, or have a burning fascination for and I'm very excited to see a lot of these in development, but let me put an idea out there... For years many of us have been following ED's every sim and announcement, and I own almost everything that they have ever made, whether or not I'm interested in flying it, but more because detailed flight simulators are a rare thing and I want to give my support. I will without doubt buy a lot of the 3rd party add on packages as they become available and I was one of the first in line with my cash to support Beczl's MiG 21 to further support this simulator. But as a customer of these products, let me tell you a little about what I would 'like' to see and spend my money on, and I believe that there are many of us in this community that feel the same way... I loved the old days of Red Flag with the first Flaming Cliffs release, and the competition and camaraderie that it brought, and I yearn to see it return, but there is a problem. Since the DCS titles have come along, ED have taken the whole simulation experience to the next level, almost beyond what many of us had imagined, which is fantastic, but the environment in which we fly has become a little stale and barren. I by no means wish to tell ED how they should be doing things, and don't mean any disrespect to their products but I need to fly with other humans, against other humans in an environment that makes us work hard to achieve our goals. As it stands today (not withstanding how FC3 will change this), you fly a single type in a set environment against AI enemy's that let's just say leave a little to be desired. The result is that most of us have flown DCS: A-10C until we can pick off targets with our Lighting pod, GBU's, AGM's or JDAM's before they knew we were coming. So what do we want? Despite the long build up (and thanks for reading if you've gotten this far!), the request is a simple one. We want adversaries... Opponents... Balanced match making... I ask that any 3rd party developer with an idea in their head about a plane, or who is considering what would yield the best return on their invested efforts take a look at what is already being made and build whatever that aircraft's counterpart is, or something from that time period. Take the vietnam era for example, the 3rd party planes already in progress, the Buckeye, Corsair, Huey, Star fighter, Tiger II, Mig-15, Mig-21 are great examples of planes that will fit in this time period, but there are so many others that could perform well here and give us a rich and varied set of aircraft to fill a realistically balanced virtual battlefield! Just think what we could do with the F-111 Aardvark, OV-10 Bronco, CH-47 Chinook, F-8 Crusader, F-102 Delta Dagger, C-37 Dragonfly, A-6 Intruder, F-4 Phantom, A-4 Skyhawk, A-1 Skyraider, F-105 Thunderchief against the Mi-6, Mi-8, Mig-17, Mig-19, Mig-23, SU-7, SU-15 and you could even add in the French Mirage III, Mirage V and the Alouette III, and the British Buccaneer, English Electric Lightning, Strike master and the Westland Wessex and you'd serve almost every nation and conflict zone around the world during the 60's! In summary, make us add ons that compliment each other, and we'll give you our love, support and most importantly cash ;)

1 T-80U = 6 M1A2's Track included
Highwayman-Ed replied to Invader ZIM's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
I sincerely hope that your guess is way off the mark. You're right, ED has to stay in business, but CA is nowhere close to what I was expecting yet. Right now I'd class CA as a proof of concept. -
Excellent! I flew the Gazelle in flight school at Middle Wallop many, many years ago! I only wish I'd kept hold of all the old training manuals :(

iControl DCS (Another iPad pit)
Highwayman-Ed replied to boarder2's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sorry if this sounds like a really basic question, but have you actually been flying in game and it's not working? The Server connection isn't made until the Fly button is pressed and the simulation engine loads... -
I had the same issue, but it worked with the new version of DCS World.
-
Well said, and despite many of the niggling little posts that we all make about x could be better, or y should be implemented, deep down the majority of us feel the same way, and all of us want DCS: something, nothing wrong with that... as long as ED realize that it has to be DCS: AH-64 of course ;)
-
Happy days, I'm off to get it right now :)
-
Go get em, they're great. Mine has kept my TM Warthog dust free for well over a year now and there is no wear and tear on the covers at all, they're really well made

Missions containing discontinued objects hang
Highwayman-Ed replied to Highwayman-Ed's topic in Mission Editor Issues
For this version of DCS, you simply search thought the mission file for "house" and any units that you find, you can replace with whatever you see fit to do so, or remove them entirely. Removing them could have ramifications however if the unit is part of a trigger for example. -
iControl DCS (Another iPad pit)
Highwayman-Ed replied to boarder2's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
OK, thanks. From a consumer's standpoint $32 is quite an investment in an app, and I don't object to paying it to integrate with DSC for a high level of fidelity, but $32 x 3, 4, etc aircraft is an entirely different prospect. If you made it $32 for the core app +1 aircraft (A-10 in this case) and $10 per additional aircraft via an in app purchase, that would be more likely to get customers to re-invest... -

Loving the demo of the app, but before I hand over my AUD$32 I was just wondering if you plan to integrate future Aircraft at all, and if so would you put them into the same App, would you would make an in-App purchase for them, or build a completely separate app for them? -
Hey mate, Great to see you're still going with this :)

They're a standard house model that reflect having infantry inside and will fire small arms at enemy units.
