  1. To add on to what boarder said, basically a virtual display is a fake display. It makes Windows think that you have another display plugged in while you actually don't. This is useful if you don't want two extra MFCD's taking up real estate on your monitor. Here is a post that shows you how to do this: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1196165&postcount=42 Note that it isn't officially supported by Boarder, the app developer. But doing it this way works great for me. I just created a fake 1024x768 display and put the MFCD's and CDU on there.
  2. Do you know of any example videos of this being done and how to create markpoints? Can you slave the maverick to these as well, like creating an SPI? Normally I've just bee creating an SPI and using the maverick's seekerhead to find the rest of the targets. It works ok, but to really rifle off mavericks when necessary markpoints would be very nice. And yeah I'm a noob sorry if it is a question obvious to everyone lol. Edit: found a good one -
  3. This app is TRULY amazing. I bought the app today and I have been playing around with it for a few hours and it is already becoming second nature for me to reach over to the iPad to use the MFCD's and during startup for all of the other instruments this app allows you to access. Boarder, this app is absolutely fantastic, thanks for your hard work. For everyone who is complaining about the price, it is TOTALLY worth it. For people who spend $400+ on HOTAS and track IR setups, this app is an absolute bargain. Boarder has obviously put a lot of work in to this app and it really shows. It took me 10 minutes to get the app set up and working perfectly (and I am mentally in a vegetative state if that tells you anything)! This isn't something you will buy, try once, and never use again. I can already tell I am gonna be using it every time I fly a sortie. Also, my meager computer doesn't have a polygon-smashing $500 video card, so I was pretty surprised to see ZERO performance impact. I figured I would lose an average of 10FPS minimum but I actually haven't had any negative performance impact. The only negative thing about it is you need to actually display the MFCD's on a monitor. Fortunately it can be a virtual (not visible) monitor, which works great, but it is an extra step. However, this is not something Boarder could do, this is a restriction in DCS itself.
  4. I started with the Instant Action on easy for the A-10c. I fooled around with it a lot, and it is very intuitive so I taught myself how to use most of the weapons. But you can never learn the A-10C all by yourself. Especially when it comes to stuff like startup procedures, you will need some outside help. I have found that the single best resource for DCS A-10C is not the manual, it's this forum. I've learned more from this forum than any other source. Don't get frustrated when stuff doesn't work, just play around with it enough and write down your questions on a pad of paper while you're flying and answer them and fly again and write down more questions... Also, things became a LOT easier after I bought a HOTAS (saitek X52 Pro).
  5. I've been using the AGM-65 Maverick a lot lately, and I've noticed something strange. About 25% of the time my maverick will miss the target by about 15 feet. Occurs on both AGM-65D and H. I've been using the TGP to set SPI and slaving the maverick to the SPI, and I know for a certainty that I am aiming it at the target correctly. Does anyone know why this could be?
  6. With products like DCS A-10C, BS2, and FC3, I am such a HUGE fan of ED. The extraordinary lengths they go through to make the aircraft flight dynamics and weapons systems accurate is obvious, and I am continuously amazed at their attention to detail. You can tell that unlike most game studios, ED actually love the products they make and they keep making them better. I have also tried most other flight sims out there, and DCS is hands-down the absolute best. People will always complain about the tiniest little meaningless details (like how the sky should be a slightly different shade of blue) but overall, I have been so impressed with ED that I've been buying their products since 2006 (original flaming cliffs). Love it! Keep up the excellent work ED, so many people love your sims.
  7. I have a very strange issue. When I fly in DCS A-10C, I cannot hear any "system" sounds like bitching betty, RWR, AIM-9 grumble, or the cannon. However I can hear the engine and APU generator, as well as nearby aircraft. Has anyone heard of this issue before, or how to resolve it? I ensured all sounds in Options (except music) are turned all the way up but the issue remains.
  8. I have a mac, I have an SSD that I loaded windows 64bit on to. I plug the SSD in to a port on macs called Thunderbolt, which offers two 10Gbps channels so it is just as fast as any internal SSD. When I have the SSD plugged in I can boot in to windows for gaming or work (usually DCS A-10C or FC3). And best of all, I can unplug it and use OS X for everything else. The mac runs Windows extremely well when it needs to for gaming and such. It's got a 2800x1880 "retina" display and DCS looks gorgeous on the screen, but I usually use an external display for ergonomic reasons.
  9. Yeah, after slapping an SSD in my PC, DCS loads everything about 3x to 4x faster. If there is a DCS buy with SSD's, I haven't seen it. Then again, I tend to not notice bugs as well as some of you do so take these words with a grain of salt ;)
  10. Track IR is lame. I built my own head tracker setup with an old webcam (used some undeveloped old film as the IR filter) and I use FreeTrack for the software. It's very straightforward and cost me $12 to build with parts from RadioShack., and it works every bit as good as my track IR 4 pro. And I can use whatever battery I please. No annoying wires to fool with or large battery packs.
  11. Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying all of the components necessary to build a dedicated gaming computer. However, I am not sure on what power supply I should get. I'm not sure how I can find out how much power a custom PC will use. I have listed all the components I'm considering purchasing here, the only thing stopping me from ordering them is that I'm not sure about the power supply: http://amzn.com/w/2JJ53559UQAAN Also, I'm not sure if there is some important part I will need that I am missing. If anyone would be kind enough to give my list a look and tell me what power supply wattage I should get, and if I'm missing any crucial (internal) components, I would be deeply grateful! And if you have any suggestions I would be glad to hear them :D Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB GDDR5 Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz Motherboard: Asus P6T6 WS Revolution CPU: Intel Core i7-3770 Quad Core 3.4Ghz 8MB L3 Cache SSD: 256GB Samsung 840 Pro HDD: Western Digital 1TB 7,200RPM 64MB Cache
  12. You don't want to put yourself in the position to "dodge" missiles, you want to outsmart them. Try and stay just out of range, and use your own weapons (mavericks, vikhrs) to kill them first. Use valleys and mountainous terrain if available to avoid them. In the 25t, use the IR jammer and continuous flare/chaff release. If worst comes to worst, your maneuvering will depend on the specific missile you face. At long ranges, it's easy, just maneuver yourself in such a way that the missile runs out of kinetic energy before hitting you. Above all: do NOT fly in a straight line. But don't maneuver so hard that you run yourself out of airspeed, which also makes you easy for a SAM to hit. There are so many different factors involved that this isn't something you can learn from a forum. Just be smart, and think about things from the missile's point of view. Every situation is different, you should adjust your response to a SAM depending on circumstances like the type of SAM, your airspeed and altitude, terrain, distance from SAM, etc.
  13. I am 23. I'm so old that I remember playing LockOn 1.0 :p
  14. Some very good points. If anyone else has any more advice I would love to hear it. Zaelu, that is very true, I am usually just to impatient and let myself get closer than I should. Haha! I bought A-10c yesterday and I'm already much better at locating targets in it, even though I have so much more experience in the 25t. I have been using the Shkval system for several years now and I still have a difficult time finding the targets before the targets find me. Regardless, I love the 25t and it will continue to be my primary aircraft.
  15. I know this sounds like a noob question...and that's because it totally is a noob question. In the Su-25T, how exactly do you guys find ground targets? When I am approaching a waypoint 3 miles ahead, I use the shkval and look 3 miles ahead. This does not work very well and I only find my targets about 50% of the time before passing overhead and being shot down by a SAM because I'm too close. Is there a better way to find targets without having to get so close? On the A-10, you can visually see the waypoint on the HUD, but on the Su-25T this doesn't seem to be the case? And if there is a way to see the waypoint on the ground how do you do it? And is there a better way of finding the targets themselves?
  16. I am generally pretty patient with these things, but really it was supposed to be out a month ago. Is it gonna be coming out any time soon...? Should I hold my breath? Is this vaporware?
  17. That is AWESOME!!!
  18. I have FC2 and DCS World running on my Retina MacBook Pro. It has 16GB RAM, 2.7Ghz i7, GT650M, and a drop-dead GORGEOUS 2800x1880 retina display. I play DCS and FC2 at all high settings at full retina resolution and it looks amazing, though the text is too small to read (windows 7 doesn't handle high-density pixel displays well) so I generally play it in 1080p on an external display. I can't believe that I really haven't had any issues running this game on the rMBPM

    Book Club!

I am currently reading a book titled Plutocrats, by Chrystia Freeland. Pretty fascinating book so far. It is about the rise in global wealth disparity, but it is not as stuffy as it would appear.
  20. Hackers Are hackers the reason there are so fewer servers up now than there were just last week? Several of my favorite servers aren't up anymore. ED, Please don't just ignore these problems in FC2 only to fix them up in FC3!!! Just for your own interests, that will be absolutely horrible for business. Many people buy flaming cliffs for the multiplayer experience. In the months leading up to your new release, if you don't fix the hacks, many people will quit playing FC2. They will put it on their shelves and forget about it for a long time. Many of your fans probably won't buy FC3, not out of vengeance, but because they simply lost interest and are now playing other games. Hackers, Please just stop. No one thinks you're cool. In fact most of us think you're the pathetic scum of the earth. I feel sorry for you, I can't believe someone hacks a FLIGHT SIMULATOR for fun! Really? Are you gonna tell your non-existent girlfriend that "I hack flight simulators for fun!"? Give me a break. Go play Call of Duty or something, because you are a pathetic wimp who can't seem to let other people have fun if you can prevent it. You don't have to be a complete loser your whole life, if you quit doing stuff like this people wouldn't hate you so much (and I'm 100% certain you're not a popular guy in real life). Go get a life, and let us of us who want to play this game have fun without your pathetic hacks. P.S. if there is someone reading this who speaks Russian, can you please translate this for me so I can post it in the RUS section? I don't know whether the hackers even read these forums, but if they do, I want them to see it. Sorry to use strong personal language but I have been looking forward to flying on FC2 for days now, and right when I get it, there's almost no servers up! Signed, Brad
  21. I actually live in Nevada (Las Vegas) so I'm excited to see how it is rendered by ED. However, I am not into older aircraft at all, and neither are most of the people I know flying on FC2. I believe Eagle Dynamics created a niche, for people who enjoy modern aircraft and modern combat. Most people here are dependent on their HUD and electronic instruments. People will not buy this P-51d game in droves, I think it will be a huge flop. I love ED, but I kinda hope it flops, I don't want ED to get the idea that they should develop more WWII simulators. There are tons of WWII flight simulators out there. Tons. ED Really only distinguishes itself in the modern combat arena. Eagle dynamics has cut off many of it's traditional fans. A lot of DCS guys like fighting ground targets, which is very ineffective and inaccurate in the P-51D. Most people like electronic systems support, so they don't have to navigate the traditional way. Most ED fans also like air to air combat, which is a lot more challenging in the P-51D. I think Eagle Dynamics shot itself in the foot with this one, I hope they don't pour too many resources down the drain developing it. I wish they'd focus on an Su-30 and F-15E simulator. That will attract the two main types of players, people who like to bomb ground targets, and people who like air fights. The F-15e or Su-30 would have been absolutely PERFECT aircraft for the DCS series...not the 'stang.
  22. DCS Flying Legends: Me-262 :)
  23. Bump. I know ED is probably very busy with other things but I think this is an important issue that should be resolved. Is anyone else having this problem? Let me know!
  24. That's awesome Agraysuk.
  25. Hey guys, I love FC2, and everything works just great, except for one problem. About once an hour, Flaming Cliffs 2 will freeze and crash because Track IR forces it to look elsewhere too quickly. For example, if I pause Track IR, and turn it back on, it sometimes "jumps" and looks straight up and freezes on that frame. Also, if I stand up to leave for a minute, it also occasionally causes FC2 to crash. Nothing I do has fixed it and it's VERY VERY annoying to have it crash after flying for 20-40 minutes JUST before reaching a target. This never happens on any other sim, and it is not a problem with my track ir. It is definitely a FC2 issue, and since the dev team at ED really cares about their product (and not just money like most other game makers!) I think this is something you guys should look into! Thanks!
