Known issue. There's a few threads about it.... Some say that it's realistic that it doesn't repair the engines. I say it's stupid to repair everything but the engines... I like the repair option so I can keep my markpoints, but I now just accept the fact that if I'm coming in with a dead engine I'm just going to have to get a new plane.

I see you're not supporting android. There goes 500 million possible sales... Anyways, backwards compatibility is nice and all, but should 95% of the people miss out on the best experience possible because grandpa can't play on his commodore? If you need to poke some people to crawl out from the 32-bit XP rock, so be it. Just my $0.02, good luck with the market survey in any case. :)

Since 95% of users are on W7+, I hope the choice is clear! :music_whistling:

I don't know how much fun it'd be to look around the pit to find the cursor. ;) "I know I left it around here somewhere!" I've gotten used to the TIR & mouse thing now. If I'm going to spend a minute in a specific area (entering coords in the CDU for example), I just pause the tracking.

^^ This. Not all airfoils are created equal. In my R/C plane experience, all planes act differently when pushed to the edge. Some planes snap with little warning at the onset of stall, some are very forgiving and just mush along at high alpha. It depends on the foil, control surface placement, CG, wing loading, and god-knows-what else... but every plane has it's quirks. Exactly! In RL, you'd be amazed just how little you actually *move* the stick, and how much feedback you get from the plane by the feel of the controls. All those cues are lacking when it comes to flying sims. I'm in love with my FFB stick for the mustang, you can really feel the plane in every aspect of flight. From feeling the controls come to life on the T/O roll, to the buffet at high AoA, ED did a great job modeling the effects. I wish a new FFB stick would come out. The MSFFB2 is what, about 10 years old?

Sure, the A-10 can pull 9 g.... once! :D

Possible Aircraft shake when GAU-8 is Fired ?
KLR Rico replied to [VAF] Shocker's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Ok, shakes or no shakes... have any of you guys seen the Russian's heavy aircraft cannon? GSh-6-30 I'm sure that one shakes the plane and pilot noticeably! Supposedly to the point of damaging the airframe. :D -
Possible Aircraft shake when GAU-8 is Fired ?
KLR Rico replied to [VAF] Shocker's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Pretty sure it doesn't work like that.... You know, with how eyes and airframes have different damping and resonance properties, along with all those other crazy things that vibration depends upon. ;) -
Not at all, IMHO. Two different means to an end, but some people want a physical environment, and some people are going to want the virtual environment. I think that flipping physical switches is still going to be a popular option for many people.

I'm pretty sure "DCS: Stratotanker" would be one of the most boring things ever. Flying the boom might neat the first few times, but the rest of the time is basic navigation while on AP. I think the only "heavy" that would be fun to fly is the Herk. AC-130's are cool and all, but if you want to have some real fun, fly MC-130s! The talon is where it's at for down & dirty, yee haw, hold onto your hat flying!

F-15C radar: too many user errors!!
KLR Rico replied to flavnet's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hey Snipe, I have had similar issues, I know exactly how you feel with the tight beam at those close ranges. I try to avoid WVR combat in 1 vs 2 situations now. If faced with those odds, I'll use the maximum speed altitude advantage going into the fight, fire as close to Rt as I dare, crank hard, and then extend again. Hopefully taking out at least one of them in the process. I don't know if it helps with the Pk, but I also use STT once I've decided which one I'm going to attack. At least that's all my norm when fighting against the AI. I fly differently against human players, since people take different measures against TWS vs STT attacks. -
probable multicore fix
KLR Rico replied to _RAAF_Sniper's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Load times are unchanged for me. :( At least for the instant action mission I tried. I have dual quad core, but I imagine the settings should work for me either way? -
Your favourite way of keeping an accurate lock through occlusion
KLR Rico replied to allmhuran's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
That's exactly how you have to do it in ENO's Fulda Gap mission. There is no TGP and AA threats abound. Oh, and you have to stay below 2000ft or the S-300 will get you. It's an exhilarating mission! But as far as general flying goes, yes, markpoints are the way to go. And also yes, lasing helps with the accuracy. Generally, I try to ID & mark the main groups of vehicles on the ingress, rather than individual units, otherwise the TAD becomes too cluttered. Also, if the units are out in the open, I only worry about marking AA threats; taking care of the rest visually once over the target area is easy enough. -
x52 pro roteries as trim..how?
KLR Rico replied to kainhall's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
While the A-10 pitch and roll trim is on the stick hat, the yaw trim is on the left panel. So, maybe there is an axis for that after all? -
Possible Aircraft shake when GAU-8 is Fired ?
KLR Rico replied to [VAF] Shocker's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I don't think it'd be necessary to shake the view. I know when I ride on a rough road, I don't detect any vibration, but my camera sure does! -
If I want my burning wreckage to be part of a "serious" WW2 simulation, then yes. That's the only point I'm trying to make here. I think the 'stang FM is spectacular, and sure, there's a lot of possibility for future development. But until the appropriate ground and air units are developed to go with it (and to a lesser extent, the theater), the mustang remains only as a neat toy in DCSW.
-
Yeah guys, plopping in a Fw 190 will suddenly turn Georgia into a WW2 theater. Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to fly 10 frame-per-second dogfights against a different aircraft. :D
-
What's wrong, the planes you're trying to shoot find you too easily?:pilotfly:
-
The DCS P-51 was released as a "because we can" kind of project. It's not intended to be used as a "serious" part of DCS world, that's why it seems so out of place. Even though there is a Fw 190 in the pipeline, it won't turn DCS World into a WW2 simulator, it will just add another plane to play with.

Hi Nate, in 1.2.3 JTAC still waits for a break in traffic, at least it does for me. You can transmit over the chatter, but JTAC won't respond until they stop for a second or two. I haven't tried it with allied flights off though, as I find the info useful. I also notice ATC responses are delayed in a similar way. If an another base's ATC is busy talking to someone else, the ATC at your base won't respond until the other base is finished talking. I noticed the delays when flying A-10C on MP, but realized what was going on when flying a FC3 jet, since it's simplified radios made it clear what was happening.
-
Isn't it?! It's like they hardly slow at all. I wouldn't want to be anywhere *near* that mess. Another thing though, I was curious about the tracer ratio. It seems like in DCS the bullets are all tracers, but in the footage there were more than a few rounds for every tracer. Is that something that can be changed in game?
-
Yeah, there's a lot going on, and you have to wait for a break in the chatter for JTAC to work. Basically, you fly to the fence in way point, and do some recon. Usually, if I think I can handle what I find, I do it. If it's too much, or I don't feel like it, I use the F10 radio menu to call in SEAD, CAP, etc, according to the threats that need to be dealt with. Once the area is safe, go in and do whatever the briefing told you to do. You should get a short message at the top of the screen when the mission is accomplished, or you can check the scoring screen with the apostrophe key. I think the score you're looking for is called "mission success" or something like that, if the score is 50 the goal is partially completed, and if it's 100 you completed the mission and you can RTB.

Map the controls to fire guns and release weapons from the controls page in options. You do have to setup some switches to actually use them while flying, but that's explained pretty well by the tutorial.

That's a good thing about buying used stuff, you can usually get back close to what you bought it for. +1 on trackIR... I consider head tracking to be as important as a joystick when it comes to flying sims. I use freetrack, but it's something that you have to tinker with a little, if you want it to just work, get trackIR.
