  1. Very cool! Nice & tidy setup.
  2. Those ungrounded LOX carts parked on asphalt are on the list too. LOL
  3. Same here. To me, the fact that it's not being updated isn't important because it's already perfected. :D It doesn't matter much anyways, because as soon as the rift comes out my freetrack rig will be obsolete. :pilotfly:
  4. I never bother with the TGP in A2A... Keep your eyes outside the cockpit, set AIM-9 to scan, and go blow stuff up.
  5. I'm using a reasonably capable HOTAS (x52) and using a modifier button, I don't remember the last time I had to use the keyboard for anything besides the F keys, escape, pause, and other non-flying tasks. Even then, they can be all dealt with by feel... I don't understand the keyboard argument. :joystick:
  6. Will people stop eating apples once oranges come out? :D
  7. I look forward to winning those pedals. :D
  8. Glad I read through the posts before I updated.... This is like losing joystick support. I hope it's fixed soon!
  9. I swapped the handle over from my X52 onto the MSFFB2 base, but that looks like a pretty interesting approach too. No matter what, the MSFFB2 definitely needs moar buttons!
  10. You don't need to see where the bullets are going.... They go where you put the pipper! :D I didn't think too much about it until I was watching my friend fly and he kept pulling the trigger with the pipper off target. I was laughing, "miss..... miss... missed again..." as soon as he started firing. Hell, now that I think about it, there are plenty of times that I'll fire a burst and break away before the bullets even get to the target; engaging BMP-2's and Shilka's for example.
  11. Good stuff. I took a lesson in an R44 once and IMHO the hardest thing to get used to was the lack of centering force, it's so easy to overshoot while making corrections. I could hold a pretty good hover for maybe 5-10 seconds, but then it seems like everything would start to go to s--t with a quickness. I seriously thought we'd die several times during that lesson. LOL Flying helicopters is like drinking through a fire hose. I need to save up some $$ to take a full set of lessons, but DCS, R/C aircraft, and all my other hobbies suck up all the funds as fast as I can come up with them. :D
  12. I am *not* first DCS module!

Have you contacted the FAA with your revelations? They use the terms interchangeably in the helicopter flying handbook. :smartass: http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aircraft/helicopter_flying_handbook/
  14. Here at Fairchild the hueys and blackhawks usually hover taxi to the closest taxiway and do airplane style takeoffs from there, but I've seen them use the runway or parallel as well.
  15. I've been checking in every now and again, waiting for the 1.2.4 release, but with the nice weather comin' around I spend less time indoors on the sim and more time outside flying R/C planes and going on motorcycle rides. Normally I'd throw in an hour or two in the evening for sim time, but I've been building a 1/5th scale piper cub, so that's been the main after-hours entertainment.
  16. Not like performance has been a huge priority thus far. :music_whistling: ;) All joking aside, I've also noticed a huge frame rate impact during high-action moments. I can get 40-60 in most "instant action" type scenarios and 20-30 in a complex campaign enviroment, but if s**t hits the fan on the battle field, I'm looking at 10FPS tops. It can live with 20-30 FPS steady, but the dips are killer. The whole experience is ruined during those moments.
  17. That's one of the things I found most interesting, how many variants there are. It gives the C-130 a run for the money in that department.
  18. Well, that's kind of a catch 22 isn't it? Start a new thread and people bitch about not searching, or resurrect an old one and get chastised for threadomancy... Well, since it's back, I'll add that I play on a 32" 1080p IPS screen and find it very nice. Viewing distance is about 3-4 feet.
  19. I watched all four parts before, and found it pretty interesting. I don't know if it's the bestest fighter on erf, but it's a damn sexy plane.
  20. The two levers work together. It's not exactly this simple, but think of the throttle lever as the "torque" control, and the RPM as just that. The two of them work together to produce a certain amount of horsepower, as HP = Torque*RPM/5252. Different flight regimes use different settings for efficiency, maximum power, etc., so it's valuable to control the settings independently. BTW, the 45@2700 is just the continuous setting. Feel free to use takeoff power (61@3000) as needed to do what you need to do. Just keep an eye on the temps, maintaining plenty of airspeed (200+) helps there.
  21. +1 on the banded setup. No jitter and easy to use.
  22. On my X52 throttle, I use the small pot near the thumb. The axis is much too jittery to use directly, so I use bands. 0-20% is zoom out, 21-79% nothing, 80-100% zoom in, and then the clutch button (in the center of this pot) resets the zoom. I find it's very effective and I use it naturally now.
  23. The more videos I see about the rift, the more excited I get. This is the future of gaming... Simply incredible stuff.
  24. My thoughts exactly... I have no idea why some people view this as a feature. Airframe damage should be unreparable by the same logic.
