  1. EDGE is the answer to everyones issues in DCS. It will make a 386@33mhz run the sim at 120fps, but only if you have the math co processor.
  2. Very nice! I love the shark with the shopping cart wheel at 1:15. :D
  3. Nothing like poppin' tanks while watching my little pony. :D

    New here

I think an X52 isn't a bad place to start, and they can be found used for cheap enough, usually under $100 USD.
  5. For the P-51, you don't need much... Here's the basics of how mine is setup: Trigger is guns, fire button is bomb/rocket release. (naturally.... right?) I use the lower stick hat as the aileron/elevator trim, and then when shifted with the pinky button it does the rudder trim. The "C" button is trim reset. I use the mode selector switch to change gunsight mode (fixed, gyro, both). E button is WEP, slider is prop rpm, the big wheel axis on the throttle is gunsight range. Throttle hat is flap lever. I have gear, starter, lights, and some other random stuff assigned to the stick base toggles. I think that's about it...
  6. What works for me every time from cold: - Fuel shutoff valve open - Fuel boost pump on - Mags on - Mixture off - Crank engine - While cranking, hold primer until engine catches - While still cranking, open mixture to run. You need to use the starter key command (or joystick button), but it works every time for me. Starting a hot engine, that's a black art I've yet to figure out...
  7. Just picked up the shark on this week's sale. I've been meaning to buy it for a while, but for some reason it was on back burner. Probably because I always see the poor sharks reaching the battlefield right as the A-10's are just mopping up. :D I tried my "jump in and see how it goes" approach, you know, to see what would happen if I found an abandoned shark just sitting there. I got some stuff to turn on, but couldn't figure out how to make it start. Switched to english cockpit and got a little further, but not nearly ready to fly. A quick review of the vital parts of the checklist, and then I was airborne. Successfully flew around at low speed, and then started pushing the envelope. That's when it had a mid-air collision with itself. :D Looking forward to learning how to fly it properly now.
  8. I'm actually pretty interested in this too! I wonder if you can buy accessories like the proper 10 speed trans and realistic clutch... the truck driver's version of the TM:WH! :D
  9. Sure, you say that *now*... but in 3 years? :music_whistling: :D I think this move to 64-bit is awesome. I have no idea what they have in store for us, but we're moving forward!
  10. If the F10 is available, I'll use it only as last resort, especially in missions where you have to kill every single unit in a group, and you'd NEVER see that vehicle hidden in the trees that refuses to shoot at you. Sure, it's not realistic, but there is a ton of other things in game that aren't realistic, so in some ways it kind of levels the playing field. Until JTAC/FAC/JSTARS and every other realistic means of ID'ing targets is available and working, I think the F10 map will fill the gap nicely. I like the idea of degrading the F10's god mode accuracy, but I'm sure it's another one of those things that's easier said than done.
  11. At that price, I hope everyone who has even a tiny bit of interest in the stang buys it, you can't afford to *not* try it. It's a pilot's plane, it'll show you real quick how bad you suck at flying. :D
  12. LOL, that might be the best plan ever. The terrorists come out of their caves for the airshow, and BOOM!
  13. 184.27 MB for the FC3 module.
  14. I'm down! What's better, I have the next couple weeks off of work, so plenty of time to play. :D
  15. Isn't any plane flyable on one engine, or no engines for that matter? It's just a matter of having enough airspeed and altitude to make it to the crash site. :D
  16. :megalol: I'll say!
  17. Laugh, I did! But only because I have shared your misery. Not with the A50 in particular, but in other situations, and I was amused by your account of the familiar situation. :D There are definitely some issues with some of the SFM aircraft. I hope they're on what must be an incredibly long to-do list, but may be tuned up in the future.
  18. Another FM detail I ran into the other day that made me smile was discovered after a Shilka took out both my ailerons, but somehow left me in an otherwise flyable state, the roll axis on my FFB stick went completely slack. Of course it's exactly what it *should* do, but most sims would miss such a detail. FWIW, I managed to nurse the stang back to a field, but borked the landing... ;)

  20. It might have happened to fire on you from an RWR blind spot. As far as avoidance goes, spending more time with your eyes outside the cockpit is about all you can do. If you're flying with AWACS support pay attention to their calls too. (I don't think the fast missions include AWACS by default though.)
  21. ^^ Good point. I grew up near El Toro MCAS, CA. I have no doubt that the airshows there every year (along with the day to day ops) made an impression on me growing up, and probably had a huge impact on my decision to get into the military, and my interest in aviation overall.
  22. If you're shooting at the conveniently marked "X" on the TGP or TAD, you're doing it wrong. :D
  23. My base (Fairchild, WA) was supposed to have an airshow in June, but it's been canceled now...
  24. ^^ Please, all you have to do is change "C:\game\gunsound.wav -off" to "C:\game\gunsound.wav -on" and send it off to the autoupdater. ;)
  25. ^^ Yes, it's the first step towards recovery! :D
