  1. Wait? The gunsight is only useful for guns? :D I spent a couple hours trying to figure out good repeatable parameters I could use that would make the gun sight useful for rockets/bombs... in the end, getting used to the trajectory of the rockets and bombs was just something I had to figure out through experience. The training mission with unlimited ammo was very useful for that. I'm still no rocket sniper, but it's coming together. Never say never, but it seems to me that there's not really any way you can say "fly x speed at y angle, fire at z distance, and the rockets/bombs will go right on the dot".
  2. Oh god no! I should clarify: that might work against targets that don't shoot back, but if they do, you're a sitting duck. That's why it's ill advised to make slow gun runs.
  3. I can usually engage T-55's at 1.2-0.7 miles, but it seems that the T-72's or T-90's are a tougher nut to crack, and I need to be within that 0.7 miles that Viper mentioned. And like he said, if you do it well enough you can pop a tank with <100 rounds. A good dive angle from the rear aspect with good PAC stabilization is important too. The hard part is getting a good dive angle, getting that close, and egressing before you crash. Things happen quick! Note of caution though... Not all targets should be approached that closely. I don't dare engage a BMP-2 with my cannon from closer than 1.2 miles, if you get close or are stabilized for more than a second, those things will tear you to pieces with a quickness. If you roll in from the right distance, get the pipper on the target quickly, and run with enough energy to do a little juke you can do it. It's even possible to engage Shilka's the same way.
  4. Plus, if you're to have any hope of recovering your stuff, stop using it as much as possible.
  5. I vaguely remember playing some WWII bomber game on the C64. It was cool because you could switch between the different crew positions. That was probably the earliest I really remember. After that, I remember MSFS 3 or 4... And thinking the textured ground in MSFS 5 was state of the art. Spent a lot of time with JetFigher II. Dabbled in Janes USAF, flanker, and some others, but mostly stuck with MSFS. Then a year or two ago I got DCS A-10 and haven't been drawn away since.
  6. Look in the controls setup. I have mine on a button, so I don't remember the key.
  7. Is that your server? It's dumb to write that kind of crap with your IP posted...
  8. 45"@2700 RPM is maximum continuous power. For maximum speed, you want takeoff power: 61"@3000 RPM. If the speed is high, you shouldn't have any cooling problems, but if you run that power at lower speeds, you'll overheat quite quickly. The motorcycle grip thing is to adjust the gun sight range setting. If you REALLY want maximum speed, you'll have to engage WEP. Just don't expect your engine to last long.
  9. Maybe it's about time for the next SimCopter? :D I just saw a few youtube videos for SimCity. Looks pretty neat!
  10. On MP (1.2.3) last night my mav D's went 12 for 12 against targets both moving and stationary, and both extremes of range. I may live to regret it, but I'll say that I would almost prefer more realistic behavior. Magic missiles are a bit boring.
  11. I've spent some time in Kyrgyzstan, and we usually end up buying a beer called "#9". It packs a punch, but tastes like rubbing alcohol. :P
  12. It sounds like you have a good idea what you're doing, but I'll ask the basic questions anyway. ;) Make sure you're not trying to correct the pipper after engaging PAC-1, it has limited control authority, and if you go outside the limits, it's ineffective. You also want to make sure PAC-1 is engaged for a few seconds before firing, so it has time to stabilize. Also, make sure your controller is setup correctly. What kind of controller are you using? Watch the HUD when you're doing a run, you should see PAC-1 or PAC-2 displayed, make sure it's showing the right one at the right time. PAC-1 on the trigger first stage, PAC-2 during firing.
  13. I haven't seen any specific training missions, but if you take some notes from the videos and do instant action missions (or make your own basic mission), you can learn it very quickly.
  14. The 210 has some extra features that would add extra complexity to model, and probably aren't public anyway; that might have contributed to their choice in using the radio they did.
  15. Awesome vid, thanks for sharing. One of the things I thought was interesting in the video was how the ailerons are split into 3 parts, and they all move independently, almost like bird feathers.
  16. You bought standalone, but like world? Vise versa? I'm sorry but I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Once you buy A-10C, you can use all versions of that module.
  17. Im on mobile, i apologise in advance for brevity/errors... - I've noticed that you need to stop the tracking before you make any changes to frame rate or resolution. - I have some USB devices that don't play nice with the eye, namely a saitek yoke/quadrant. You might try running tracking with everything else unplugged, just to test. - I'm not sure why you are having to uninstall/reinstall each time... So you mean you have to mess with the drivers, or just the USB plug? It's a sweet setup once you get it working... Hopefully you can get it sorted.
  18. I checked out Sled Driver from the local library a while ago, I had no idea that they went for so much! It was a great read.
  19. Driver is slang, almost making light of being a pilot. "Oh, I'm a viper driver.... No big deal."
  20. The boom should have a pair of ultraviolet marker lights, which illuminates the fluorescent marking tape, as well as an incandescent nozzle light.
  21. I've run into the same problem. I'm pretty sure that the issue is that the initial coordinates in the CDU are used again when you realign. Unfortunately, the initial coordinates can't be changed... the only solution is to park on the same place you started when doing the alignment, which is not possible if you start in a HAS.... I haven't found another work around yet.
  22. As far as I see it, the only time you need the speed of keyboard (which is still slower than HOTAS), would be in A2A engagements, and those aircraft can't use point/click anyways, so what's the issue? For my FC3 jets, I put all my commonly used controls on HOTAS, and rarely touch the keyboard.
  23. Herks are badass. I worked on them for 8 years... I miss them now. :(
  24. The best part was killing the same guy like 3x in the exact same way.
  25. Just don't go doing it on MP unless arranged with the other player. :D BTW, hooking other flight's SPI's is also very useful when you have allied flights calling tally SAM and things like that.
