A-10 bouncing around, very difficult to fly
KLR Rico replied to LtMacGowan's topic in Bugs and Problems
Check your axis/key assignments? Maybe a conflict there. I think RCtrl and Enter brings up the axis window, and you can make sure everything is moving the way you want. -
What can I expect from more R.A.M.?
KLR Rico replied to neroroxxx's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I went from 4 to 20 GB, and didn't see much performance increase with DCS... until I put the game on a ramdisk, it decreased the loading time and took care of a some of the little stutters when new sounds/objects loaded. Although, loading the image into RAM kind of offset the saved time while the game is running. It took about 2-3 minutes to load the ~8GB image from a pair of 10K RPM raptors in RAID 0. When everything went to DCSW I didn't put it on a ramdisk, and I don't really feel bothered by running straight off the disk; but YMMV depending on your system, and it's easy enough to try. -
I went through this too... I expected some buffet effects and such, but there aren't any effects like that for the A-10. The only forces you'll get are trim forces, extra centering force with increased speed, and the stick shaker when the gear/flaps are down.

Yeah, I think something's not right with the 87's. There has been more than one time that I've had the wave of destruction pass straight through a group of infantry with very little damage done.

LMAO, I made it a point to make sure I changed the bookmark name from ED forums to DCS forums. Haha

You can't direct them, you just activate them. If you do nothing, the flights will just hold at their initial waypoint. If you activate them via the F10 menu, they'll continue along their mission waypoints and engage targets.

Right now, the KC-135's will drop countermeasures when you fire on them. (not that I've done it... :music_whistling: ) The only problem, IRL they're not equipped with countermeasures of any kind. Pretty low on the to-do list I'm sure, but just for reality's sake, I figured I'd mention it.

Nice! With the round in it and everything?! That's an HEI round, isn't it? Is it inerted? I used to have a bunch of empty shells because our engine shop was co-located with the A-10's weapons shop. Regrettably, I gave them all away since I figured I'd get more. The A-10's left Pope before I ever got around to it. :(

I don't think anyone is saying that it's not going to be a kickass machine; it'll chew up anything you throw at it. The jist of it is that you wound up with a professional machine instead of an equivalent enthusiast computer that would have cost much less. In any case, you won't be disappointed with the performance. So, if price is no object, have a ball. :)

Yeah, unless you have workstation requirements, you won't gain anything from a workstation gfx card. They're virtually identical to their gaming counterparts, but they are manufactured from the best components in a production run to provide the most stability possible, along with carefully developed drivers (also to ensure stability). I'm gaming on an old workstation and one of the first things I did was sell the nvidia quadro to buy a standard gaming card.

I don't believe the CBU-97/105's spin, do they?

Turning a Laptop LCD Screen into a Desktop Monitor
KLR Rico replied to Hels's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Agree. I looked into wiring up laptop displays before (I have several lying around), and it's a lot of work. This is the most promising link I've found about it: http://g3nius.org/lcd-controller/ I've seen decent LCD monitors for as low as $10-20 on craigslist and in thrift stores, so that took away a lot of the desire I had to hack together a laptop panel. -
I've never had much luck with the CBU-97 in regular CCIP either. I use CCRP or CCIP with CR. They do take some practice to get a feel for the "Kentucky windage" you have to apply due to wind drift and how the HOF affects how short the BLU's end up.

No luck for me either... I can login under LAN or history but if I change it to internet it'll CTD. I guess it's time to refly the campaign! :D

A detailed guide to the View system in DCS A10C?
KLR Rico replied to minimi66's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
YES! -
Add me to the list of frequent "connection interrupted" sufferers. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason. (<-- very helpful for debugging purposes, I know)

The trim tabs deflect the control surface, that's why they move "opposite" (elevator up trim would move the tab down, pushing the elevator up). In a real plane, the trim relieves the pressure from the stick, but doesn't "recenter" it like with the joystick. For example, flying at very low speed, you would damn near have the stick in your lap and you might have used 60% of the up elevator's total throw. You could trim away the pressure you need to hold that attitude, but the stick doesn't change position, you still have used 60% of the total available travel. With a joystick, springs provide the resistance, so you can't trim the same way, but as far as the sim airplane is concerned, you've really trimmed like in real life, and used up some of the throw. The reason using full trim on the ground doesn't appear to affect the controls is that the trim tabs are aerodynamic. I'm sure this would have been more clear if I wasn't a few beers into my evening... :D

I haven't had the pleasure of working on the TF-34, but it usually works like this... For core RPM, a tachometer generator mounted on the accessory drive (which is mechanically linked to core) directly powers the gauge. The fan spool, on the other hand, is not linked to anything (besides it's turbine) so RPM is sensed by a magnetic pickup and a toothed wheel. This design does not generate it's own power, so it requires aircraft power.

I usually fly 10-15K feet for orbiting, just out of reach of the most common nasties.

Glad it's not just me then. I thought I had broken something when I was trying to get freetrack working...
-
I spent the first few days hitting the pause button a lot. Now I don't even think about it... I know what I want to do and it's automatic. Although, every now and again I have to go back and look up some of the more rarely used functions.

I'm digging the new buffet effects too. I definitely agree some sound effects to go with it would be awesome...

Wooow, clever little buggers in World eh?
KLR Rico replied to Aries's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Any chance of it being done via mod? It'd be something else to turn 'em into white hot splatter on the FLIR like the AC-130 and AH-64 videos. :joystick: -
Multi-threading first... then *maybe* this would be the next direction... I play on dual CPU rig, so I'm hoping for some love either way.

+1 to everything so far. It may be a little rough around the edges, but the DCS series has so much potential it boggles the mind... I can't wait to see how it evolves.
