I remember reading in one of the KC-135's TO's that the A-10 is "performance limited" and sometimes tobogganing is required to refuel it... I'll ask a pilot about tanking A-10's tonight.

But some people prefer smoothness over eye candy, or vise versa. I compromise frame rate for draw distance, for example. (especially after finding that most of the settings changed my max framerate very little) But yes, we really do need all the info to create the whole picture.

Double hearing protection does work pretty well. Custom ones would be the ticket for long term comfort, but you can try a few brands of the standard foamies to find ones you like for now. I like the triple flanged silicone style, or the foam ones that are more cone shaped and soft. The cylindrical yellow EAR ones are pretty uncomfortable, IMO. I have a couple active noise canceling headsets; one David clark & one flightcom. They are good around hobarts and other low frequency/steady noise, but do little for the high frequency jet and APU noise.

I'm using a hand-me-down workstation. Not so good for DCS, but very good at other tasks... System Specs: Dell Precision T5400 Processors - dual Xeon E5420's (2.5GHz, quad core, 12M Cache, 1333 MHz FSB) RAM - 20 GB PC2-5300 ECC GFX - EVGA GTX 560 1GB (factory OC) Drives - 1x 320 GB WD Caviar 2x 160 GB WD 10K RPM Raptor (software RAID 0) In game settings: Nvidia Settings: Anisotropic Filtering: Application Controlled FXAA: Off AA gamma: On AA mode: Application Controlled AA Transparency: Off Max Prerendered frames: Application Controlled Multidisplay: Single display Power Management: Prefer Max Texture filtering - Ansio sample: Off Texture filtering - Neg LOD bias: Allow Texture filtering - Quality: Quality Texture filtering - Trilinear Opt: Off Threaded opt.: Auto Triple Buffering: Off V Sync: 3d application setting Framerates: A-10 instant action -- East Georgia - Spring: ~40 Su-27T instant action -- ground attack: 20-30 A-10 Georgian Hammer campaign: 10-25 (usually around 15 in the battle area) All settings are undergoing constant tweaking, but I'm fairly happy with what I have now. I'm pretty sure my bottleneck right now is the 2.5GHz clock speed, but there's no way to OC this rig. Any suggestions on improving these settings would be appreciated.

This thread is useless without any FPS figures! :D

I mean, who is going to have to get close to it first and get it sorted out. :)

I'd hate to be the lowest ranking guy that day.

It seems like the weight/drag changes have definitely changed the handling, probably more realistic now, but it sure can be tougher. Energy management needs much more careful attention now. I never did a back to back comparison between the versions, but with the standard instant action load out, I can only pull ~2 g's in a turn before I get into chop tone. It makes it much harder to dodge SAM's.

IIRC, on the A-10, the APU is louder than the engines from some angles. My memory is kinda hazy on that subject; I was at Pope AFB, NC when the 74th was there, but I worked on the C-130, so my experiences with them were casual.

I think it was mentioned that a change log was part of the intended upgrades to the updater. It would still be nice to have it all in one place and available for offline (Er....Out of game?) viewing.

I think falcon is on the right track, but in a different way... It's not the pressure inside the bottle that's making the difference, but inside the mask. It would take 1000 units to fill the mask at sea level pressure, but only 600 units to fill the mask at altitude. The volume of air is unchanged, but the density is decreased. The opposite of this happens when scuba diving. On the surface, your air is supplied at 1 atmosphere (it has to match the surrounding pressure), but for every 33ft, pressure is increased by one atmosphere. At 66 ft, you're breathing air supplied at 3 atmospheres pressure, and you'll get 1/3 of the breaths from the tank than you would have had at the surface.

The ball is just passively indicating the increased adverse yaw though, isn't it?
-
I haven't noticed a change in engine power, but one of the things that stood out for me was more adverse yaw now.

Cursor changes in arrow Mouse in Cocpit DCSW 1.2.1

I'm also seeing this. Has it been officially reported? -
So far I just tested one of the A-10 instant action missions. The speech is back! My mind often tricks me on this stuff, but it appears the rockets have a new sound, explosions are improved, and SAM launches look better.

Did that FPS fix already hit the auto update? I went ahead and installed the new version, which updated itself right away. If there's a FPS drop, I didn't notice. My performance was marginal to begin with, 40's in the instant action missions, and 20's in the campaign (at least when A-10 was standalone, it was in the single digits on the last version of world). Although, I didn't get a chance to test it thoroughly, it would appear that the campaigns are running much smoother now.

I don't think I'll even attempt the upgrade until this is fixed... :(
-
Yup, I'm sitting at 300 kb/s down, and 580 kb/s up... Must. Be. Patient. :music_whistling: I'll seed until the next version comes out though.

It's the game server IP, but it doesn't help with the crash if you need to log onto the server list to see it. :D Although, I do wish more people put the TS server info in the server name. My MP instance of DCS crashes 99% of the time when I alt-tab out of it to setup the TS server, so it would be easier to get the info put in before I joined. Well, at least it would save the time of joining twice.

That's pretty awesome!

Should only Senior-members be able to create polls?
KLR Rico replied to PeterP's topic in Forum and Site Issues
Like 99% of the forums I've ever seen, there's always going to be the same things covered ad nauseum. Motorcycle forums have their "which oil should I use" threads, R/C forums have their "which radio brand is best" threads, and the sim forums have "which aircraft should be modeled next" threads. It's just how it is, even if the option to poll is gone, the debate will continue. ;) -
Flock Of Birds Mod for DCS World.
KLR Rico replied to diveplane's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
This mod looks awesome. It would be neat if it could be generated as part of the ground clutter, but i suppose that would have to be done on ED's side. As far as being collidable, what kind of damage would it cause? Instant death? -
What can I expect from more R.A.M.?
KLR Rico replied to neroroxxx's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I tried several of the free ones, and settled on ImDisk. http://www.ltr-data.se/opencode.html/#ImDisk It is pretty easy to use and has no size limit, unlike many other free utilities. I'm not aware of any way to make it load on startup, but I didn't dig into it too far. There are so many variables, it's hard to say how much benefit you'll see with a ramdisk, but like I said, it's easy enough to try. -
I'd say it sounds like it's working as advertised. Don't get me wrong, I'd personally prefer the feel of the aircraft at the expense of reality. However, the fact remains: The A-10C module has no FFB effects other than those previously mentioned.

I tried the demo a while back and thought it was kind of funky, but the new reviews and videos seem promising. Purchased!
