  1. That's going to keep you busy!
  2. Given the nature of this type of simulation, I think we should consider DCSW and all of it's modules in perpetual beta. There's always something to improve, that usually means new bugs, new fixes, then back to new features, and the cycle repeats ad infinitum... It goes with the territory, IMHO. As long as there's some type of active development at all, I'm happy.
  3. It is a repurposed workstation, dual Xeon e5420 @2.5ghz. Great for multithreaded apps, but not much for dcs... I'm not too sure why I don't see any change between ffb on/off.
  4. ^^ Good machines always swallow. LOL.
  5. FWIW, I'm using the regular grey one. Maybe there's other factors? For example, I get nearly the same FPS regardless of any in-game settings. Clicking the low preset results in an FPS nearly the same as the high preset... and likewise, I get nearly the same with force feedback on or off. Maybe a system's particular bottleneck determines if this tweak will help or not.
  6. ^^ Exactly.
  7. I tested it with my MS FFB2 and found no appreciable difference in frame rate. Still 40-60 in simple missions, and ~20 for complex ones. :(
  8. If you're really feeling froggy, you can put the x-52 handle on the MSFBB2. I did that and it's been pretty awesome. However, my ugly temporary test setup has kind of turned into my permanent solution. I was planning on covering it up with a boot/cover of some kind, but... meh.
  9. A little closer, and it would have been a much more extreme version of this:
  10. I've been meaning to mention this too. The fuel flow indication is all kinds of screwed up. For example, the engines idle at 6000 lbs/hr, and mil power vs AB only shows ~500 lb difference. I haven't done any testing to see if it's just indication that's screwed, or the consumption modeling altogether.
  11. It's really a matter of personal preference...
  12. "Sure I can make your movie, I've seen top gun AND transformers!" I couldn't finish watching either one. *puke*
  13. Stumbleupon brought me to a tale about flying the buff down low, an interesting read if you ask me. I've ridden along for NOE on a herk, I'm sure it'd be nuts in a 52. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/12/18/1171510/-Flying-the-B-52-Part-4# Edit: I just saw this article was one of several parts, looks like I got some more reading to do! :smartass:
  14. Very interesting, thanks for posting.

I'm really looking forward to this one!

That's just sick! How does it feel to fly? Is the level of immersion everything you were hoping for? Anything you would do different next time? Edit: Ooops, just posted while you had already answered. PS: You say it beats $8m sims, is that just visual, or the whole experience? I had the chance to play in a level D sim once, and I'd do anything to replicate that experience...
  17. I don't know if killing people makes someone into a warrior, or if it's someone born a warrior that aspires to do that job. I had an Apache pilot friend who expressed zero reservations about sending people to meet their maker, and talked about it openly. I've often considered going green to fly helicopters, but always back down from the idea for one reason or another. I do know that I don't particularly like the idea of ending human lives, and I'd much rather be flying medivac. As far as "killing" in simulation, I have no guilt whatsoever. I feel there's a pretty distinct difference between 1's and 0's, and flesh and blood.
  18. Nicely done! Clean work.
  19. *AND* it's even better! Higher spatial and temporal resolution!
  20. For me, mouse look works without any setup. I just go to external, and use the mouse. *shrug*
  21. Glad to see that you got it sorted!
  22. Mind. Blown. ;) I can't wait to see how this all works out. It really sounds amazing...
  23. I also consider some type of head tracking a *must have* item. If given the choice between a $20 joystick and head tracking, or a TM warthog without any headtracking, I would pick the $20 stick with tracking. It's that good, IMHO. If you want to save some $$, and you like to tinker, freetrack is a good option. I use freetrack and an IR modified PS3eye with very good results. I built it at a total cost of about $40.
  24. Which brings me to my point, how often does anyone actually look at the keyboard to use it? The vast majority of the time when I reach for the keyboard, it's for an F key, and those are easy to feel around for. I wonder if the Oculus will have a feature to tilt up, or just peak around, like NVG's. :pilotfly:
  25. I have FINALLY started to get pretty good at tanking... It seems like you need to develop a certain level muscle memory to know exactly how much and when to move the controls. It's a lot like learning to hover a helicopter in that regard...
