Figured it out. The "Change the size of text, apps, and other items:" setting in the Windows 10 settings for Display are affecting the game. I do not believe that is correct for a game; certainly it was not true of 1.2.x I can certainly change it to play for now, but 100% is too small on a 28" 4k for normal stuff despite working fine for gaming...
-
I don't know what else you want. SLI 970's, ASUS PB287Q monitor, removed my configs and reset all my resolution related stuff, as soon as I chose 4k and hit OK it was screwed up again.
-
Razorback, Think that's load related. I've seen that and retrying several times has worked.

Guys repairing the game or the installed Visual studio redists aren't going to cut it. It's a new version; grab it from the link on the MS page above..
-
Cichlidan don't know which you grabbed, but make sure you do the x64 (64-bit) Redist.
-
At 4k it looks like all I see is the top left quadrant on the menu screens. It's unusable.

Couldn't login with account I had to change my password to log in to the open beta. I suspect it was the complexity of the old password. If someone from ED wants to look into this I am willing to divulge the old password.

No; I don't want to find out who's the most clever forum spammer :music_whistling: -
Download, run http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/beta/ It copies the game to another folder. If/when there are any beta releases available it will update to them. It makes a <User>/Saved Games/DCS.openbeta for configs next to the DCS folder. You may have to use the module manager in the second copy to reinstall them in the other copy, but you won't have to reactivate them. you'll have separate open beta icons to launch the game/repair/update. It's not hard; give it a try. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Thanks hugely again Ells228! :D -
Post here before 1.5 is up for download for a chance to win an NTTR. Once 1.5 is up for download I'll select a random post to win a copy of NTTR, that's all there is to it! The winner loses and has to very anxiously await 2.0 when 1.5 is out! Edit: Ells228 has put 5 Hawks into the mix too, proving once again VEAO rocks! Edt Edit: And Ells has added 1 P-40F!!!! Edit Edit Edit: After I announced this giveaway and went to purchase an NTTR for it I tripped and my face fell on the M-2000C purchase button so there will now 1 M-2000C up for grabs too!

By their very definition smoke tests are supposed to be quick and _not_ takes days... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoke_testing_(software) In particular, "A frequent characteristic of a smoke test is that it runs quickly, often in the order of a few minutes and thus provides much quicker feedback and faster turnaround than the running of full test suites which can take hours or even days." And my professional opinion is that that is a completely accurate description. Ours are basically along the lines of: the application installs, configures, runs, services start, you can log in, etc. all in all less than 1 hour if done by hand and that's with an up front installation that takes several minutes on its own. We basically ensure we're not handing the QE guys something completely broken. If they need to do a full barrage of tests that's fine, but lets not call that something it's not. Edit: and to be clear I know well that releasing something to the public often takes more than just uploading something to a web server for download, that that may take considerable time, and that they may well be in the process of doing that for some time. My long winded point is that testing that takes days probably does not fall under the category of smoke tests...

I watched it on my phone... is it nor a video of the updated graphics?

Show us the ground with tgp and shkval. Any improvement?
-
Because if it's unstable, as a beta may be, you're then going to have to downgrade it and hope and hold you're breath that it gets you something that will work again.

It's actually a tried and true tactic to go low to mess with the enemies radar. That's exactly what the tomcat pilots did in the F-14 - Libyan MiG-23 engagement. At one point they went from angels 9 to 3, then peaked up to 5. When it was over, in so far as I understand it, they headed north ducking out low. No engaging at 10 or 20 or 40k... https://youtu.be/sAHHXAIazqQ

Man, we just saw it by the skin of our teeth through the clouds. Very close call. Was cool to see though. -
When is the best time to really buy hardware?
xaoslaad replied to Fakum's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well, we were hearing good things about the 6000 series intel cpus so i went for them as soon as they stopped being $5,000 or even $500. Lots of new stuff in terms of CPU's/motherboards/RAM not to mention NVMe drives have just hit the market, so I pieced together a new system while the stuff is still hot under the theory that I more (longer before even newer stuff comes out) bang for the buck. I think anything you put together with current hardware is going to run 1.5 just fine. It's not like anything significant will be out in the next few weeks., although as you say maybe uou can hit aome food deals on black friday and ao on. The only thing I'd look at is what's new in Nvidia news. I think I bought my 970's this time last yeard and I have no idea what's on the horizon. That said, as with any pricy upgrades you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. My timing and rationale is good for no one else. -
