  1. The combat pro flight pedals are not great, especially for the price. The internals are all plastic, so with use the center of mine has become quite sloppy. They don't force to center if you make small adjustments as there's basically no spring tension there. They collect dirt very easily inside and are difficult to clean. The metal pedals are too heavy for the springs except in the most upright position, so you'll have to set deadzones or use them in what I consider the least comfortable of the three positions. Now with Windows 10, even without the profiling software, which isn't really necessary for them, they still have the same issue as all other Saitek products where you can't unplug them while your computer is on or else it will become unresponsive. When my girlfriend wants to yank my pedals to practice we have to shut both computers down. Lame. They work, but they are extremely overpriced for what they are. I can't speak about Crosswinds from personal experience until late this month or early October, but if they're anywhere what others say I'd say save up the extra difference and save yourself the discontent and headache. I am probably one of the most Anti-Saitek people on the forums and bad mouth them like it's my job, but as a former owner of a problematic X-52 Pro and the less than stellar Pro Combat pedals I just want to try saving people the money I wasted, even if it means spending a little more up front...
  2. Thanks for the response!
  3. Any word on whether the red flag campaigns can be completed in multiplayer? Have a friend on the fence about NTTR at the cirrent price and if they can be done MP it might put him over the edge.
  4. Dont forget Red Dawn style missions too. Or find the terrorist(s) in Vegas, terrorists at the Hoover dam, etc. Just because it's Nevada doesn't mean it can't be fun and immersive. Red Dawn was ridiculous and yet it's still a cult classic that was worthy of a sequel and can easily inspire silly entertaining missions. Don't like it? Don't buy it. As for me my head is already churning with entertaining ideas and I pity those with zero imagination.
  5. DCS World 2 is free. The MiG-21 will work in DCS World 2. DCS World 2 does not come with the Nevada NTTR map. 1.5/2.0 include several other updates including support for multiple maps. NTTR is presently a $40 pre-order purchase at 20% off and I think with two campaigns if you buy it before October 1.
  6. The 6700k's are out and indeed have some nice features that I think the 4000 series dont have like boot from nvme drivers. Just watch for price gouging. The most you should pay is $350 but north american stocks are limited at the moment. Still I've managed to pick up 2 at proper prices from newegg and amazon for the few hours they each had them up. The nvme drives can transfer at a theoretical 32 gbps rather than 6 gpbs of AHCI SSD's and the z170 motherboards also carry usb 3.1 rev 2 connectors, etc. to keep you up to date on peripheral connectivity. Supposedly the next gen CPU's are going to be the same socket type, but we'll see. Still it might allow for a moderate bump without having to replace mobo and ram at the same time.
  7. What's harder about an AT-802U than anything else?
  8. We can only dream. I still like to pretend one of LNS' other two will be an AT-802U after they cruelly joked about it as well.
  9. Finally we will know the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow.
  10. Every WWII and Korean era aircraft, not to mention the MiG-21Bis and F-14A/B prove that wrong.
  11. Her dad has long been into RC helos, so she gets it from both directions with RC and simulation.
  12. Meanwhile my girlfriend keeps asking when I am getting my crosswinds so she can have my saiteks so she can have an eaiser time trying to figure out the Ka-50 :-p
  13. 4GB is below the minimum requirement. Try to get at least 8, if not 16. You may get game crashes on large missions with just 4, or lots of stuttering if it can't load everything into RAM and windows starts trying to use the page file on disk to swap.
  14. Monitor resolution may be a factor? If one is at 1366x768 and the other at 1920x1080 it could affect performance, so if they are getting different experiences it's worth asking.
  15. Saitek is trash. It's sad they are the major player for anything over absolute beginner stick up to Warthog HOTAS, but any money spent is likely just going to just result in frustration. One thing to consider if you're thinking about a warthog hotas down the line is there is no twist, so pedals will be necessary. If you can afford Crosswinds go the distance. I have the pro combat saitek pedals and they catch dirt easily and are way too junky for the price. Whenever possible, based off the nothing but problematic Saitek x52 Pro and combat rudder pedals I had, I preach a 'wait and save' attitude. I know theyre prohibitive. It took me years, especially after tossing money in the saitek fire place. Im only now waiting foe MFG's and I've been eyeballing them for a good long time. Even now at all the Saitek users that can't upgrade to Windows 10. It's not like it was a suprise to anyone that it was coming and gere they still are, no updates for their users.
  16. If you get going too fast you'll eat dirt. As you approach MACH 1 it gets exceedingly difficult to control. If you're in a dive you better hope you have time to get the airbrakes out, slam the throttle back, and utter a prayer. I watched my buddy create an impact crater last week for that very reason.
  17. Nevermind. AFAC with S&E works.
  18. No matter what task I assign them, what weapons, they will not attack. Are they utterly incapable in the game?
  19. I sympathize with that. If you can hold out and save up for the extra $150 or whatever a Warthog will cost you over an X55 I would say do it. Otherwise if you regret your decision to buy whichever now you have to add that price on top of a Warthog and it's that much more prohibitive. I have gotten to where I see every dime put into a Saitek product as money I should have put into something else and basically threw out the window into the wind. It feels bad. Very bad.
  20. I don't dispute that and think we're mostly on the same page. And I don't have a problem with it personally. It's been in good taste thus far and has been a good middle ground. Afterall we often fly missions of the what-may-have-been or what-may-be sort and filling a need in war often leads to improvisation and development. We're all well aware of guns on F-4's in Vietnam as an example. So why not suppose in the right situation either beam riding A-G missiles on MiG-21's or antiship missiles on C-101's, both things that based on real world input seem fairly feasible couldn't have been. I was just saying if they could be all things to all people having a few categories of realism could silence these discussions. It exists or existed in real life T1. Otherwise depending how far removed from reality T2 or T3... Maybe a thought for DCS 3.0.
  21. I had an X-52 Pro. Nothing but problems. Especially the mouse stick on the throttle. It's great having your mouse on the desktop or TGP in-game slew to the right for no reason, to be fixed by unplugging and plugging it in a few times. Of course sometimes that just leads to a blue screen with that thing. I gave it to a friend when I bought a Warthog. He had to disable the mouse stick input because it was such a pain. I have pro combat flight pedals and they are pretty junky too. Collect lots of dirt inside. I took them apart to see what gives with the huge amount of slop in the center. It's the junk plastic parts not fitting together worth a damn. Lots of slack. I finally gave in and put myself on the list for crosswinds. Can't wait. Friends don't let friends buy Saitek.
  22. Ummm that picture is not an AH-1F.... ;)
  23. Wouldn't touch another Saitek product with a ten foot cattle prod. All junk parts through and through no matter what the outside is made of.
  24. This is the final result for now. In time I may print a new top and add more rotaries, buttons, and or switches, depending on what I decide I want...
  25. It is my favorite chopper in the game. I'd love a more modern hip that could carry even a small number of AT missile, but regardless of that this thing is the winner for fun flying.
