  1. me too. I don't have toe brakes on my pedals so taxiing the spitfire is a dream compared to the other warbirds
  2. this sounds cool. are you willing to share the ground crew files?
  3. I do find the gunsight really hard to use. I was having a much easier time getting kills just with the funnel on the F-16 and I wish the JF had one. However I love everything else about the plane. having a blast with it!
  4. the JF17 does not have it (yet)
  5. lol spoke to soon. caved and bought it. no regrets time to learn this awesome plane
  6. ok thanks I will wait for a sale then
  7. just curious how you got it for $63? It is 80 on the store for me.
  8. have to admit I went into dcs wwII expecting the spitfire 9 to be lacking but it ended up being the plane in which I am most comfortable. I find it by far the easiest to handle on the ground (I don't have toe brakes on my pedals) and in the air, and especially to get kills with. I never really grasped energy fighting so having a plane that caters to my bad habits is quite intoxicating. I have put many hours into the 109 and focke wulfs but in MP I have to think really hard about my engagements and be very careful attacking spitfires or I am toast. I guess it's nice being able to run away though. I would say 95% of my kills while flying the 109 are from sneaking up on people from below, and using my superior sustained climb and invisible 30mm bullets to give them a nasty surprise. Once a spitfire sees me and starts turning I just fly away.
  9. thanks so much for this. I have a somewhat unrelated question to the mission. Do you have the screenshot used for the promo pic but without the text? I'd love to use that as a wallpaper haha
  10. has anyone got some advice for fighting against F-18s in BFM? I can do ok against most opponents but hornets really give me a hard time. From what I can tell the F-16 has superior turn radius and TWR, but hornet has way better low energy control at high aoa. I always seem to end up getting baited into a scissors, or they will just override fcs in a turn and pull a snapshot on me with the radar gunsight which F-16 doesn't have yet.
  11. Hi I can do russian (language and accent), and New Zealand or English accent and am keen to help out
  12. really excited for the update. thanks for news!
  13. the spitfire is my favourite of the warbirds for ground handling because I don't have toe brakes on my pedals. it just seems really intuitive and it has really strong brakes. while it doesn't have a lockable tail wheel for takeoff, it doesn't really need one as the rudder is extremely effective with just the prop wash from using around 7lbs of boost and airscrew lever full forward. First you will want to ensure your elevator trim is neutral on the cockpit instrument. don't slowly advance the throttle on takeoff though as using low power can be dangerous due to lacking sufficient rudder authority to counter the plane's tendency to pull to the left. conversely using too much power is also dangerous, so I tend to use 7-8lbs. after takeoff, just fly down the runway a bit to become stable before raising the gear and climbing, and advance to 12lbs boost and reduce airscrew to 2800RPM to get the plane stable. She flies beautifully once airborne
  14. thanks we really appreciate the hard work and love the sounds are getting. it really shows when i hear the new merlin sounds and the BMW801
  15. a revamp of the 109/dora sounds up to the level of the Anton and Spitfire/Mustang would be great! https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/2113720/ in the meantime you should give this a try
  16. been flying on the updated map for a few days now and still brings me as much pleasure as the first time I loaded it and saw the updated textures. This is a huge step towards a fully complete WW2 combat environment in DCS, something I have wished for a long time, so thank you
  17. not sure if anyone has mentioned this but if you go to dcs world\sounds\effects\aircrafts\engines, there is a folder for the P&W R2800, the engine used in the P-47 and Corsair, complete with high quality sounds
  18. The new warbird sounds (anton and recently spitfire/mustang) are really on point!! Whatever you guys are doing keep it up!
  19. wow. how have I never heard of this mod? It's incredible and should be in the game by default! Just bought Jagdflieger and am about to dive in
  20. What an unexpected christmas surprise!!! thanks guys!
  21. Just finished mission 12 with a total of 11 ground kills and 17 air for the campaign. I had a great experience and it really helps to bring the spitfire to life. I ran this campaign with 70+ fps in 2k with the specs listed in my sig (just make sure to disable wake turbulence!!) These are a few AI issues I encountered, and despite these it didn't bring down the experience much. Here are a few things I noted while playing: - Friendly spits shoulder shooting from far away and landing all their shots, kill stealing a target you've already downed, or running out of fuel in a 40min flight. I also found that (in some cases) the friendly spits would absolutely wipe the floor with the attacking German planes. In one of the late missions there is a scramble to attack 30+ focke wulfs, and we finished the mission with only 2 spitfires lost and 34/34 german planes lost! I would be interested to know the results of some of these battles in real life and to replay the missions to see what kind of different results I get. - I've found the enemy AI to not behave that unrealistically at all. I felt the performance of the Fw190A8 and 109k4 was believable when I fought them, and I was able to catch up with an energy advantage quite easily. The spit really climbs like a rocket!!! Just be sure not to use emergency power while chasing a hun into the vertical and stall! The lack of airflow will detonate your engine. I usually left my engine at 12lbs boost and 2800 RPM in combat which is pretty safe, and more than enough power for an extended dogfight. You should be fine to use 18lbs and 3000 rpm to chase a baddie who is diving away though. I am looking forward to replaying this once the new damage models are released.
  22. just listen to the new merlin sounds while looking at the sun reflect off your perfectly rendered spitfire wing at 24000ft and tell me that this isn't the closest you can get to flying a warbird in real life
