Can the sea cat missile really hit anti-ship missiles?

I could write a developer response right now. 'Unable to reproduce'. ..

My frames won't compare to yours in VR, but I changed the F4 for F15 and started on the runway at 65 fps. Good start. Overland LL at 85 fps. Still good. Shoot up to 26000' and chase Bears 105fps. Couldn't fire missiles as I'd forgotten how to. Back to Stanley LL at 85fps. Still good. Downwind at 75fps, turn base OK. Then turn final and the ball drops to 20fps. Bugger. Lose concentration and the will to live. Crash onto the runway. ..

Here it is today. Obliterated by trees. ..

I would expect that size of drop as being normal. I use V Sync Fast and unlimited fps, so drop will be more severe. I've run this training mission dozens of times and sometimes it's OK, sometimes not. Today I tried Chinook, air start north of O Higgins and the 900' gremlin popped up as I dropped into a valley. Runway start at OHiggins, heading north, no problem and full frames were available. Chinook is very frame hungry, so you don't get many to start with. Thanks for your help. ..

F4 same mission, shoot all missiles at Bears. Return and exactly at 900' radar alt, we drop off a cliff from 74 to 20 frames. This is my favourite map, but this behaviour is a real spoiler. No other map does this. A second flight had a slightly different result. On return, the usual drop occured, but this time after about 20 secs, it bounced back to 70 plus, whilst still at low level. RTX 2080ti. Can somebody try this simple mission? Falkland .miz

So I do the same mission again, with an F1 and Matra 530F. Stanley at 65 fps. Travel at LL up down round and round, through the twilight zone at about 95 fps, then shoot up to 26000', no probs so far, about 115 fps. Rapid descent to Penguin height, still OK, Then back up to 26000', shoot a Matra and down the big Russian. Descend through the 900' zone, expecting the big frame drop and nothing. All the way back to Stanley at 100 fps for a dodgy landing. It's the inconsistancy I find more annoying than the actal frame drop. I'll keep at it. ..

I don't think it's the settings that are doing it. I did the same mission with an F4, but without firing a missile and there is no problem. I'll keep at it..
-
I hate to spoil your Sunday, but... F1. Climb to 26000'. Shoot down a plane with a missile. Return to sub 900'. Result. Frame drop from 100 to 20. No change for me. ..

GTX 1080Ti or RTX 2080Ti. Which to choose?
Holbeach replied to Holbeach's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This is an Antec 902. It's famous for being built like a brick shed'ous and excellent cooling ability. The PSU is correct and designed that way to assist in case heat evacuation. I will send a pic tomorrow. .. -
GTX 1080Ti or RTX 2080Ti. Which to choose?
Holbeach replied to Holbeach's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The auto fan curve was too low. Manual fan at 100% gave 61C at max fps on Marianas. So bringing in the fans earlier on the auto curve, in MSI, I settled on steady 69C at 74% fan speed. CPU is always at 61C. Case fans are on low. Thanks for your response. .. -
This is also happening with ships. View your ship at say 60fps. Move between ships. OK. Then suddenly bam, you are down to sub 20 fps. View from above 900' and you are back to 60 fps. Repeat this and it gets worse, until in my case a crash will occur. In extreme case, the DCS exe dissappeared. I have been unable to recreate, Belgrano fleet/Argie carrier fleet/ Brit carrier fleet, successfully. ..

GTX 1080Ti or RTX 2080Ti. Which to choose?
Holbeach replied to Holbeach's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Here's some temps for you. Settings High. 3 fans on low and 1 not working. Worst case, Marianas with 125 mobile assets. GPU at 99% contiuous, Max fps, 85C. CPU 65C. Fps at 60 limit, 78C. CPU 60C. Falklands, max fps, 74C, CPU 60C. 60 fps limit, GPU 60C, CPU 58C. I don't think there's anything to worry about the Antec case. Thanks.. -
GTX 1080Ti or RTX 2080Ti. Which to choose?
Holbeach replied to Holbeach's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the positive feedback. The 2080ti has been a great success. It arrived boxed, clean and looking like brand new, so for 285 quid it worked faultlessly.. It is the same width but deeper and longer then the 1070, but fitted ok and plug and play without incident. Without the 20cm fan and 3 others on low, Afghanistan running up to 120fps and settings high, GPU temp are mid 70's and CPU mid 60s, perfectly OK. VRAM is always at max, but RAM is reduced and never exceeds max like it use to. Tech details are. 1080ti 50% increase in performance from 1070. 2080ti, 98% increase. from 1070. 2080ti, 431% increase from GTX 580, (top tier in its day), originally fitted in this machine 13 years ago with the same old 2600K. 1080p screen suits me but I'll look into upgrade. . -
GTX 1080Ti or RTX 2080Ti. Which to choose?
Holbeach replied to Holbeach's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Here are pictoral frame comparisons from Tierra Del Fuego. 1070. 2080ti. 1070. 2080 ti. 2080ti. 2080ti. Guam low level, was 20/22 fps, Now 45/60 fps. In general, the Falklands has a 25/30% increase in frames overall, but Marianas, with about 120 aircraft and ground assets mobile, is showing an increase of 60+% and is very smooth. GPU temps are high for Marianas, but I have 1 200mm fan not working, so I will replace it. Removing 1 fan filter has gained a couple of degs less. Room temp is 28C. .. -
GTX 1080Ti or RTX 2080Ti. Which to choose?

The 2080ti is now installed and running at 80C under load and on low fan speed, but the room temp is 28C. so I think it is too be expected. .. -
GTX 1080Ti or RTX 2080Ti. Which to choose?

It's a hypothetical question, but no matter, it's now installed and running well. Frames are a big improvement, but I'll give it a good run tomorrow. Fingers crossed. .. -

Some people like classic cars, motor cycles, vintage aircraft, yachts, I've done them all, so why not pc's, then make them do more than what they're originally intended for. .. -
GTX 1080Ti or RTX 2080Ti. Which to choose?
Holbeach replied to Holbeach's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
What do you think about replacing my board with a Gen 3 version? This would be an easy swap. It would bring my Evo up to full speed. I was surprised it worked in the first place, The first one was a 250gb. What would be a good CPU to go with it? .. -

Right, lets reiterate the rules of engagement. We have an old system. This can't be changed. What would you do to upgrade with a new graphics card. A GTX 1080 or rtx 2080 or something else. .. -

GTX 1080Ti or RTX 2080Ti. Which to choose?
Holbeach replied to Holbeach's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So I've got an ASUS ROG Strix RTX 2080Ti on its way. Is it ging to work in this old system? Is it even going to fit? It's a big bugger. Is there going to be an improvement or not? I've been flying around Caucasus, Afghanistan, and Falklands today. High at about 75fps and low over cities at about 45fps, but most importantly, smooth as a baby. Why would I want to change it? Let's see if it's worth it. .. -
GTX 1080Ti or RTX 2080Ti. Which to choose?
Holbeach replied to Holbeach's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks again for the answers. My CPU was originally OC to 4.4 for use in video rendering (767 Youtube) and CPU hungry FSX, coupled with a GTX580, then a 970 and now a EVGA 1070 FTW, bought when the Harrier came out. All showed a marked improvement on their predecessor. I now limit CPU to 3.8 for longevity. DCS single player is my main game, stored on a M2 970 Evo plus. Cooling is good. Regular cleaning is the key. Both GPUs are about the same price on Ebay, around £260. Money is not a problem. Given that the 2600K is staying put, I will probably be getting the 2080ti and see what happens, then go from there. The dev tool I'm using, is in the game. Right Cont. /Pause. I also use Afterburner and Samsung Magician. My toughest mission is Marianas, with 96 SAM elements and 14 aircraft giving around 47fps max. I will use this to do a comparison. ..
