  1. Here are pictoral frame comparisons from Tierra Del Fuego. 1070. 2080ti. 1070. 2080 ti. 2080ti. 2080ti. Guam low level, was 20/22 fps, Now 45/60 fps. In general, the Falklands has a 25/30% increase in frames overall, but Marianas, with about 120 aircraft and ground assets mobile, is showing an increase of 60+% and is very smooth. GPU temps are high for Marianas, but I have 1 200mm fan not working, so I will replace it. Removing 1 fan filter has gained a couple of degs less. Room temp is 28C. ..
  2. The 2080ti is now installed and running at 80C under load and on low fan speed, but the room temp is 28C. so I think it is too be expected. ..
  3. It's a hypothetical question, but no matter, it's now installed and running well. Frames are a big improvement, but I'll give it a good run tomorrow. Fingers crossed. ..
  4. Some people like classic cars, motor cycles, vintage aircraft, yachts, I've done them all, so why not pc's, then make them do more than what they're originally intended for. ..
  5. What do you think about replacing my board with a Gen 3 version? This would be an easy swap. It would bring my Evo up to full speed. I was surprised it worked in the first place, The first one was a 250gb. What would be a good CPU to go with it? ..
  6. Right, lets reiterate the rules of engagement. We have an old system. This can't be changed. What would you do to upgrade with a new graphics card. A GTX 1080 or rtx 2080 or something else. ..
  7. Here's the works. 13 Y/O AIH. 2 x 8 pin power. P8 Z68-V with Pcie 2.0 1000w PS ..
  8. So I've got an ASUS ROG Strix RTX 2080Ti on its way. Is it ging to work in this old system? Is it even going to fit? It's a big bugger. Is there going to be an improvement or not? I've been flying around Caucasus, Afghanistan, and Falklands today. High at about 75fps and low over cities at about 45fps, but most importantly, smooth as a baby. Why would I want to change it? Let's see if it's worth it. ..
  9. Thanks again for the answers. My CPU was originally OC to 4.4 for use in video rendering (767 Youtube) and CPU hungry FSX, coupled with a GTX580, then a 970 and now a EVGA 1070 FTW, bought when the Harrier came out. All showed a marked improvement on their predecessor. I now limit CPU to 3.8 for longevity. DCS single player is my main game, stored on a M2 970 Evo plus. Cooling is good. Regular cleaning is the key. Both GPUs are about the same price on Ebay, around £260. Money is not a problem. Given that the 2600K is staying put, I will probably be getting the 2080ti and see what happens, then go from there. The dev tool I'm using, is in the game. Right Cont. /Pause. I also use Afterburner and Samsung Magician. My toughest mission is Marianas, with 96 SAM elements and 14 aircraft giving around 47fps max. I will use this to do a comparison. ..
  10. This, if I'm reading it correctly. Settings are high. ..
  11. I'm using an adaptor for the Evo 970 2 Tb. This means it runs at about half its theoretical speed, but 3 times the speed of a SSD. .. The GPU is my bottleneck. The GPU is always at 100% because I use Vsync Fast ..
  12. OK. So what would you do? If you had my system and wanted to upgrade, what would you do? ..
  13. Thanks chaps. You've been very helpfull. ..
  14. Price is similar. 1080ti has massive reputation. 2080 ti is about same, but has ray tracing. So I guess the 2080ti has the edge for an old system like mine. .. Looks like it's the 2080ti wins. ..
  15. Given that DCS runs very well in its current form, with GPU being the bottleneck. Which one? ..
  16. If you had a 15 YO PC with a GTX 1070, which one, (2Hand), would you upgrade too? Does DCS use Ray Tracing? ..
  17. I managed to get the Viggen into the under 18 club. Using F4 or Harrier from Stanley, I travelled round the island at any altitude, with frames from 45 low to 75 and up to 100 for the Viggen also using F10 without probs on these instances. But, intercept an aircraft and fire a missile and things change. At my next drop to below 900', my frames drop from about 60 to 17 flatline instantly. No other map does this. ..
  18. I tried 0.1 forest with the F4. 17 fps on the runway. Go to F2 which sometimes works, then F1 and we jump to 50fps. We're off round and round up and down and it stays up to 75 fps. Looking good. Back to sub 900', press F10 and the flatline 17 fps is back. The only one that remains un affected is the Viggen. ..
  19. Same mission, climb to attack Bears at 26000', just change the aircraft. F4/F1, will start on runway at either 50 fpm or 16 fpm, depending on how they feel. Viggen starts at about 55 fpm. ..
  20. F1 plus Falklands. ..
  21. With regards to my previous post. All the text has dissappeared and it's uneditable. But briefly, after a perfect high and low level flight, pressing F10 and back to F1, has flat lined my fps from 75 to 17 fps. The remainder of the LL flight will stay at low frames and nothing will change it. The F1 is similarly affected, but my new aquisition, The Viggen, is so far completely at home high or low. F4 at 18 fps. Viggen at 55 fps. ..
  22. From what I remember, the whole wheel sinks into the ground to the rim. The tyre stays the same. Maybe things have moved on, since the last time this question was asked.. ..
  23. As I remember, this is a DCS thing and affects all aircraft. The tyre itself is not animated. ..
