  1. Sure there is. DCS is open to modding. There is a user files section for these on the official website and a forum section. You’re confusing unofficial mods with licensed third party content. And DCS has a great amount of that. Besides this difficulty the chief reason people avoid unofficial mods is the problems they can create. Having easy access to these doesn’t solve that issue. Most players aren’t going to want to use these no matter how easy the access is.
  2. You don’t seem to understand anything about unofficial mods in DCS. Again the fact that they’re made without the SDK or the ability to test them with a preview build of the game or any internal testing by ED meant they’re inherently problematic. Even if they might seem worthwhile superficially, they have the potential to cause all sorts of bugs and problems. This is why very few servers use them.
  3. You keep missing the point that unofficial mods cause problems in DCS because they’re not tested. Most people aren’t going to want to use them no matter what the “benefit” might be. And that’s why very few severs would ask players to download them. They’re just going to screw up your game and cause you a big headache.
  4. I think you are missing the fact that DCS unofficial mods are unofficial. They aren’t tested with the game builds nor created with use of the SDK. Bottom line they can cause a lot of problems and are best avoided if you want the game to run well. Hardly anyone would want these downloaded into their game automatically. And very few servers use unofficial mods.
  5. Huh? We do not want servers automatically installing unofficial mods onto our machines! These cause a lot of trouble in DCS
  6. If the pixel density setting affects the dot size then the whole idea of trying to make these equal across headsets seems like sheer folly. There is such a variety of possible resolutions and HMDs
  7. It’s the first question answered here. This isn’t hard to believe, just look at the paltry numbers online.
  8. Well besides being against the rules constant comparisons to other games preclude DCS coming up with something better, merely imitating something else isn’t necessarily the best solution. Games made by unpaid modders are certainly not a fair comparison. ED has said this themselves many times. 90% of the players have never been online. That’s not hard to believe. I really hope the few players you ever see on the servers aren’t the majority that own the game.
  9. Are the dots simply based upon the native resolution of the headsets or do they account for pixel density settings? If they try to use the pixel density setting it seems there would be no way to account for all the possible variations.
  10. Yes. For the same reason dot labels are a setting. And in many cases the spotting dots are larger and visible from farther away than labels.
  11. DCS is always getting these unfair comparisons to old games which were probably 40x easier to make decades ago. I’m pretty sure a single module today is more work than an entire game was back then.
  12. Well I can’t pretend that dots even work, they’re a terrible idea. They can’t convey all the things that affect visibility IRL like aspect and contrast etc. I don’t need the dots at all to get realistic visibility, they’re turned off here:
  13. Yes. Assuming we want visibility in DCS to be realistic there is a big difference between those examples.
  14. Dots representing what? A nose-on Bf-109 12 miles away? Or a top view F-14 2 miles way?
  15. Can’t see what exactly? General comments like this don’t help. The development process already seems very unscientific as it is. Give us a screenshot or example of something you think you should be able to see but can’t.
  16. I notice this too
  17. Well in DCS years that’s like yesterday
  18. When it’s necessary to explain this it’s apparent that many DCS players have very poor eyesight. They think their screens look like real life And we are stuck with these dots in the game because they won’t go see an eye doctor.
  19. The idea of purpose I think was a very good point. And its relation to a Dynamic Campaign. I sometimes wonder if what keeps flight sims like this such a niche genre is that players shy away from them figuring all they offer is shallow quick missions or limited campaigns that don’t justify the time spend learning aircraft or investments in hardware. A very important feature that needs to accompany this is a game save function. Without this such in-depth gameplay doesn’t have much purpose since it’s not approachable to a market beyond the retired and unemployed. To me those would be the most important things the game could add.
  20. It’s great to know that’s how other players online see you
  21. They’re still huge! What resolution is that display?
  22. Those dots are gigantic! Do people seriously need these to see anything in the game? That’s crazy. Another post here showed these appearing on targets 30 miles away
  23. I’ve worn VR headsets, it’s like taking your glasses off you’d need the zoom view to make up for the lack of resolution.
  24. FOV is another reason for needing the variable zoom view. The “life sized” FOV of your screen would be too narrow to be practical. Some racing sim players like that but it wouldn’t be too good for flight sims where you need to look around a lot. Plus they’re probably using triple screens. These discussions seem to reveal that many players have very poor eyesight. If they think their screen looks like reality. That means their real eyesight isn’t any better than their display.
